  1. Hi Kim, Wow--you've been though a lot. Since you were diagnosed with Celiac, I'm glad that you're following a gluten free lifestyle. 100% from now on--whats past is past--you can take control of your health from now on. I can't speak to the medicines you are on now, I have no experience there, but to answer your question about the celiac disease-depression...
  2. Welcome Colin! From the sound of your many symptoms, Celiac is a definate possibility. A simple blood test and stool sample can't diagnose Celiac, you need a full Celiac (blood) Panel and possibly a biopsy of your small intestine to see if there is any damage. If your appointment is coming up and you want to be tested, don't stop eating gluten because...
  3. Traveljunkie made an excellent suggestion regarding the B vitamins. I posted before, but I wanted you to know that the B's helped me--especially B6.
  4. Wow! Way cool!! Thanks for that
  5. I have not had my legs go out, but at times they feel so weak that I've thought maybe they would. Also, I get hip pain on the right side while laying in bed that is so painful that its hard to change position. Thankfully, these things do not happen too often.
  6. My depression and anxiety were greatly reduced after a good 3 months gluten free. It happened little by little and by the 4th month, I was waking up in a calm, positive mood almost daily. I would give it a bit more time--best of luck to her and hope she feels better.
  7. If you have a Whole Foods nearby, the Gluten Free Bakeshop sandwich bread and cinnamon raisin bread are good.
  8. Laura, your dinner sounds great! Hope mine will turn out as well--this is my first gluten-free year. Happy Thanksgiving
  9. Another option, if you are unsure or not comfortable with the vinegar, ask for oil and lemon wedges and use those instead.
  10. What a nice boss! Happy Thanksgiving
  11. I have been sick for about 20 years or so. Up until about 2 years ago, my main symptoms were nausea, dizziness and mild anemia. I became consistantly sick with persistant D, depression, anxiety, tingling, numbness and skin problems in mid 2004. I think that my C-section in 1984 may have initally triggered it--I can't remember ever having stomach problems...

ARCHIVED Not Happy With My Gi!

First, please accept my deepest symphathy on the loss of your Dad. After only a few months, it must still be so hard. It sounds to me like the Drs. involved had a case of "tunnel vision" regarding the treatment and failed to see the big picture or the whole person. I can't say I blame you at all for not wanting to put your daughter through any more than...
  13. Thanks for the explanation, Noelle. As a Catholic girl, I wondered why Celiacs could not become priests--I had never heard such a thing until recently on here. Your words make sense to me.

ARCHIVED Not Happy With My Gi!

Glad to hear your daughter is doing well and I agree that the diet is neither hard nor horrible. A thought crossed my mind as I was reading your post about Drs. not wanting to prescribe the gluten-free diet. They have no problem recommending chemotherapy when they think its appropriate, so to be reluctant to recommend the gluten-free diet when it will clearly...
  15. The tingling feel is hard to describe--kind of a numb tingling that is always there. I don't have hives or anything on the skin that would cause it, its pretty widespread on the left side especially but affects both feet on the soles. I think the ideas that Thomas has are interesting. I have an open mind and actually a Kinesiologist was the first person...
  16. The cake sounds really good. Would rice milk work as a sub. for the milk?
  17. I don't know about all smoke flavorings, but I know that Oscar Mayer bacon and Hormel Bacon is gluten free. I'm sure there are many others, but these are the ones I use and have checked to make sure.
  18. Why no calcium? I'm a 49 yr. old woman and the thought of no calcium scares me a little! I eat no dairy products, but try to get nutrients from food--its hard to get enough of some things from food, though, and thats why I supplement.
  19. Deb, Could I ask you about the neuropathy? Is the burning and tingling the start of it or are these actual symptoms of having it? I feel it most on the left side of my face and left arm. I feel burning "spots" on the soles of my feet also. Sorry--I don't know too much about it, I found out that these were symptoms of celiac disease only after being Dx...
  20. Christianne--Thanks for the great ideas, and welcome to the board!
  21. As someone who's celiac disease symptoms include depression, anxiety, and tingling feelings, I am interested in hearing more of what you have to say. I take Standard Process Calcium Lactate which has magnesium. The tingling is still very much with me, the other 2 are greatly reduced with the diet and suppliments. I also take a Centrum Multi., vit.B6, Vit...
  22. Are the waffles Van's by any chance? I ask because I got a severe reaction from them (while driving--had to stop at a Dunkin Donuts to use the restroom and almost didn't make it!) I'm sure a lot of people use and like them, but no more for me
  23. I know that I'm not the first one to suggest this, but the ole "going back to the basics" would help you get a handle on what is causing your reactions. Potatoes are a good start. Maybe add some fresh meat, cooked simply (you need your protein!!). Do you like rice? Cooked vegetables--start with easy to digest ones like green beans, squash, etc. At the...
  24. I think its a personal decision whether to use products made in a factory which also processes wheat. Some people are more sensitive than others and what bothers one person may not affect another. That said, if I see the warning on a label, I don't buy it. I can always find a subsitiute that I feel more comfortable using.
  25. Dreary, indeed...Just like the dark, rainy day were having in NJ. I also don't understand the unwillingness of people in general to take the notion of gluten sensitivites and celiac disease seriously. I have people in my life that I have always thought of as intelligent and open minded that either think I'm "being too picky" or their eyes just glaze over...
