  1. I think it took me half a year to do this - well, to start doing this. But I sure am glad I did.
  2. have you been forthright about your needs and how he can meet them? have you listened to his needs, how you can meet them, and responded? have you two discussed and responded to what compromises are absolutely mandatory to find a middle ground? let me give you a somewhat petty example: I'm getting back into hiking and backpacking. I love it....
  3. 1. Blood tests for celiac disease are COMPLETELY useless if you've been gluten free. The test looks for the body's reaction to gluten. If you haven't been consuming gluten, your body won't be reacting to it, and the test won't have a reaction to find, of course. He'd need to consume three slices of bread a day for three months for an accurate blood test...
  4. 1. unsweetened silk, cinnamon, vanilla, honey, and a pinch of salt 2. water, apple sauce, and cinnamon 3. almond milk and blueberries
  5. Two things - 1. if you're not communicating at all, then you're also not communicating about your relationship. you two need to discuss that there are some needs that must be met, and communication - general life communication, not just the 'serious issue' communication, is one of them. 2. if you're having sex while thinking that you hate it or don...
  6. I've been on pred numerous times. :-) It's a corticosteroid, and is very commonly used for significant inflammation (such as you get from serious allergy reactions or extended asthma exacerbations). Do NOT stop taking it early or other than prescribed - it affects the immune system, and taking it other than as prescribed can dangerously suppress the immune...
  7. if this is the case for the OP, then it's time to find a doctor who specializes in treating this sort of problem, which is difficult. the confluence of this sort of problem with a low sex drive is a *witch* of a problem to solve, and going it alone just is going to take too long and be too frustrating and painful, mentally and physically.
  8. It's not true that it would hurt all the time if it's something bad. And "bad" is relative. What's wrong with my knees is "bad", in that it slowly grinds the cartilage off the back of the kneecap, but not something that should always be treated with surgery (like my first ortho wanted), but is something that should be treated by properly strengthening the...
  9. Pure aloe vera gel is from the aloe vera plant - no relation to wheat. Always read the ingredients on whatever you buy, though. As for the sunburn, there's a theory, however, that you want to encourage the peeling, as it's your body's way of getting rid of the skin cells that were most damaged by the sun, so you might not want to use any aloe. You could...
  10. Allergies (like the ones tested for my the skin test you had), are IgE mediated reactions. Intolerances are IgG (and IgA) mediated reactions. The skin tests do not show intolerances; they are different beasts all together, and you can have either one or both or neither.
  11. That is exactly how it's used in *many* recipes. (Heck, many use a ham bone in the recipe, and then take it out before serving!)
  12. I don't want to know how much money I spent talking to my therapist and working on this one. It's one of those cases where the Nike slogan becomes a little bit of a mantra.
  13. that's a good list - and with the allergen labeling laws, you'll start seeing it listed more plainly. going CF, I think, is more difficult than gluten-free - primarily because I like yogurt and cheese more, and there are not decent substitutions. (soy yogurt's not the same, and I don't like having too much soy.) but you can do it so long as you choose...
  14. Is your doctor an allergist? If not, you *must* find an allergist. Even if you're looking at a two hour drive to get to this allergist, you need to have an allergist treat you for serious allergies. In the meantime, until that happens, carry the dye-free liqui-gel benadryl with you at all times, or a liquid version. It's the fastest acting stuff you'll...
  15. Two suggestions: 1. Ice - the description's vague enough that I'm really not sure on this one - if you tore something, and there's inflammation, I'd suggest going with ice (gel packs, really, to get good coverage) on the knees for 10-15 minutes every hour or two. If nothing else, it numbs them up, and (someone correct me if I'm wrong, but this is what my...
  16. Welcome to the board! Glad you're finding it useful! :-)
  17. Stoli and Absolut are both distilled from wheat. So, for those of us who are on the "distillation does render it gluten free" side of the camp, we're going to say they're safe. Ironically, I'm in that camp, but would steer you towards Ciroq, which is grape based so couldn't have gluten in it, merely because it's much better than even Stolichnaya, though...
  18. Lymphoma and anemia are both highly correlated to untreated celiac disease. The fact that your gliandin antibodies are still up means that you're not healed yet, so it's not surprising that you're other numbers aren't improving. If your gliandin antibodies didn't decline, you should very carefully analyze your diet, your food preparation area, and your...
  19. Welshire Farms also makes gluten free bacon. The vast majority of bacon is gluten-free, but we've had reports of one or two that do have gluten (McDonalds? - can someone confirm that?), so always check ingredients. But Neiman Ranch has always reviewed quite well, and I've seen Trader Joe's carry it as well.
  20. at the least, they used to have one that didn't. but you're right, they all list it. it's been working fine for me, and they're all gluten free. (all of crests products are.)
  21. Yep, that's what I meant. There are some recipes that are *highly* dependent on the chemical properties of gluten that can't really be duplicated by gums or other proteins. Anything with very light layers that comes apart on it's own through the baking is going to be really hard to do gluten-free. (Not saying it's impossible, of course.) Light and fluffy...
  22. soups, but go slowly and carefully there, and hot cereal.
  23. Having dealt (and dealing with) a low sex drive due to a pain condition, and going through sex therapy, I want to reiterate that sometimes you just have sex. You don't do it when you REALLY don't want to, but you lower the bar on when it's 'not acceptable' to have sex, so that you're not just waiting until you're really really in the mood. Like many things...
  24. I've had the regular chocolate and chocolate mint. They're both fine, but very much like the regular larabars in texture. Having made similar things, I'm a little disappointed they don't improve the texture, but it's fab for grabbing and throwing in my daypack for a hike.
  25. I agree with CarlaB, your logic is quite sound, and it is worth investigating.
