  1. I am soooooo with you on this one. I just gotta bite my tongue eventually. Especially when it comes to not getting any exercise... shutting up now...
  2. If you haven't had this checked on by a doctor, please do. Some conditions - including the ones I listed - get worse without proper treatment. It *could* be exacerbated by gluten, but it might also be something else. Gluten isn't the cause of *everything* that goes wrong with us, though I know sometimes we fall into the trap of thinking that's the case...
  3. I've never had a problem with amaranth, though I certainly don't remember when I first had it. :-)
  4. have you been evaluated for tendonitis, carpal tunnel, and rheumatoid arthritis?
  5. the lactase enzyme won't hurt him - but for it to be effective, it really works best to take it a few minutes (3 or 4) before starting in on the dairy. you can do the lab test, or can just go off symptoms - seems pretty obvious to me.
  6. they also told you not to do any heavy lifting for the next 24 hours (especially with that arm) or do any particular exercise today. the former can leave you with a *huge* bruise, the later can leave you very faint. (yeah, I'm not so good at listening to instructions either , aside from eating a big meal for dinner. I can do that!) but sprite? ...
  7. after giving blood? heck yeah. didn't they tell you anything? oh, they probably tried to load you up on crackers, and you can have them, I forgot. but I prefer fruit - you get vitamins too. when they take out all that blood, your blood sugar tends to go down as well. something for hypoglycemics to be very careful about during blood donation. (I always...
  8. lol! It's bad, but I understand! Though, doing that the day after you gave blood... You crazy man, you crazy. Get some extra fruit in you tonight!
  9. Millet is in no way related to wheat, and does not contain the offending protein structures. Enjoy! (it's a tasty grain!)
  10. you can't be tested while you're gluten free - not by regular doctors, for the most part. the dietary test is the most important one, and everyone has different reactions, not all of them extreme.
  11. I think they need to be customizable. Here's what goes in mine (keep in mind that I do FAM, so that includes that): basal temperature, cycle day, period, sex, cervical fluic, cervical position, illness/stress/travel, knee pain scale, vulva pain scale, abdomen pain scale, back pain scale, asthma severity scale, allergy severity scale, headache/migraine...
  12. I believe plain ol' baking soda can be used for heart burn. Read the packaging.
  13. Let's say you wash your hair, and a little of the suds run down your face towards your mouth - bing! Glutened! Let's say you use lotion, then lick your finger to turn the page on a book - bing! Glutened! Let's say you use lipstick, then lick your lips ever - bing! Glutened! There are lots of little instances that risk little contaminations over and...
  14. ??? How does that work? I don't know that's ever been a problem when growing up or in my house now. Granted, I don't often buy salad dressing, and usually make my own, but when I do, I save the bottles and reuse them, and the labels are a bugger to get off!
  15. Wait until you start having guests over and they start looking in your fridge and are envious of how healthy you are. It *does* get easier. I know that doesn't help now. But one thing that will help now is to make larger portions and have stuff in the fridge AND freezer at all times as leftovers, so you never *have* to cook.
  16. First celiac to photograph celiacs having lovely meals in all the restaurants around the country that cater to celiacs. You could not only get funding from celiac associations and research centers, but also restaurant chains if you can come up with a plan for getting some media attention (or, for that matter, you might get the media to pay for some of it...
  17. It takes longer than a few days because, if you've been gluten free for very long, your intestines are relatively healed, and the antibodies that your intestines are producing for those four days are not getting into the blood stream. Ordinarily, it is very small molecules that are released into the bloodstream from the intestines, not large ones like antibodies...
  18. Gah... those studies always leave out the magnesium. Burns me up, I tells ya. Magnesium, according to some studies, is MORE important for celiacs than calcium. Anywho... Exercise... the list that jenvan had there was great. Anything that causes you to bear weight. (I know, I know... but stop and think about if you're bearing weight when you think...
  19. most things (at least that I've ever seen, though I live in the US) that are picked are picked in distilled vinegar, not malt. most balsamic vinegars are gluten-free (though you have to check ingredients on the cheap ones with additives). as richard said, no guess work. you wouldn't 'just try things' that a friend who played with poisonous chemicals...
  20. malt is made from barley, hence it has gluten in it. you must eliminate it from your diet in order to be gluten free. glucose and fructose are fine, however, with respect to being gluten free (they are both sugars).
  21. kraft usa won't put out a list of their products that are gluten free *because* they are clear in their ingredients. they don't to maintain a list (and have out of date lists out in distribution).
  22. if you get enriched rice, washing it will remove all the vitamins that have been added, fyi. I don't rinse, but it can change the outcome of the rice slightly (more separated kernels).
  23. While I don't condone the eating of oats, especially commercial oats, Chocolate Peppermint Stick certainly was my favorite flavor of Luna bars in my pre-gluten-free days. :-) If only we could get them to make gluten-free ones!
  24. lol... I'll be in CA at the time, but the other end of the state. :-P (I'll miss my five year anniversary because of my trip too. :-( )
  25. You have to call the company to find out. There's no guarantee that it is or is not. It's one of thoe ingredients that can hide gluten.
