  1. You'll find that obsession fade (though not totally go away) over time as the diet becomes second nature. You'll fill your kitchen with safe foods, you'll know what you can and can't have the way you already know what you like and don't like, and you'll find all kinds of alternatives (instead of corn as a side dish for carbohydrates, there's rice, beans...
  2. Whoohoo! :-) Now how many of those are free of dairy as well? I heard many of them had milk...
  3. It's not that hard either. Reading labels isn't that hard - and if you have to carry around a piece of paper that lists the things to avoid, you carry around a piece of paper. Not to mention, you don't need a single pre-processed, multiple-ingredient, boxed or shrink-wrapped item of food in your diet in order to have a tasty, well-rounded, nutritious, and...
  4. Yep, the tests can be altered by being gluten-free for as little as a few weeks. (It varies from person to person whether it sticks around for a while or not.) But look at your symptoms! I don't see anything questionable about it! Dietary challenges are valid tests in and of themselves! Don't ignore what your body is telling you!
  5. It sounds like you're just lacking confidence in your own observations. If you already know that you're going to keep her gluten-free, then the test results are irrelevant. But have confidence in your observations. There is no one - other than herself - who knows her as well as you do, and who knows the changes the diet has made. Objective, numeric lab...
  6. DH, from what I understand, can take months to clear. You may want to eliminate as much iodine from his diet at the moment as well, as that can make the DH worse (and last longer). The dry skin is almost certainly exacerbating things, and I presume you've tried all the various things like moisturizing lotions or even directly using almond oil and increasing...
  7. No. And the person who told you that doesn't even understand the plant reproductive cycle, apparently. Wheat grains are essentially seeds - they will sprout and become a new wheat stalk. Those same grains are the ones that are milled to make wheat flour. When they are sprouted, the fat and protein in the grain is "used up" in the process of making a stalk...
  8. I love it! The world needs more reasons to use shiny stickers!
  9. Hehehe... Maybe it was all the time I spent with the Zen monks at my yoga retreat, but eh.... it's all good. :-) I do plan on trying that last bottle... But will probably open it with a big towel wrapped around it. ;-) hehehe...
  10. Yes, thank you for hosting, Merika! I hadn't really had a chance to write about what happend after getting home, yet, but have a few minutes now to do that... I got home, and put up the free samples we'd split up, and put the bottles of Bard's Tale in the fridge, and one on the counter so I could drink it. Not two minutes later, I heard a crash...
  11. The fact that his tTg was low just means that there hasn't been significant damage to the intestines at this point. The fact that what I presume are his anti-gliandin antibodies (both IgA and IgG) are high, shows that he is reacting to gliandin, however, and should be gluten-free. As noted, though, if you're going to go with a biopsy, he'd have to go back...
  12. Big giant CONGRATULATIONS!!! :-)
  13. Whew! That's great news!
  14. Tests - blood and biopsy - are notoritously tricky on the youngest patients who may not have had significant damage as of yet. So... There's the option of retesting after the age of three if tests come back negative (both tests, that is), or of starting the gluten-free diet, and postponing the decision on what to do about testing. If the biopsy results...
  15. Leftovers! That's mostly what I do, but it varies. Usually, the leftovers I take are soup, stir-fry, stew, chili, or casseroles. Fresh things I've made include: tuna tacos pb&j sandwhich rice cakes w/ peanut butter bean salads hummus shrimp salad One of those items is usually accompanied by: raw veggies fresh fruit nuts
  16. Nothing beats air-popped popcorn! :-) Poppers are around $15 at Target.
  17. What tests did he run (find out all of them), and tests that early can give false negatives and it would be worthwhile to retest in a year or two. Additionally, you can TRY the diet for six months and see if she gains weight and there's a noticeable difference in her digestive "output" as it were. ;-)
  18. Meh... tests aren't that great. And I don't think the standard diabetes tests cover testing for hypoglycemia very well (but I could well be wrong about that). My tests all come out fine too, but my doctor noted that a lot of people she sees (particularly women) find that they are just more sensitive to the effects than what the lab tests say is "okay" and...
  19. That sounds like a fairly standard hypoglycemic response. Have you been tested for that? (And I'm sorry if I already asked you this one... I feel like I might have, but I just can't remember.)
  20. Yep, that reaction sounds like mine, though more severe. Brain fog, noisy stomach, pain in the abdomen are all glutening signs for me. I hope it passes quickly for you.
  21. For salsa, you'll just have to make it from scratch! (Don't need vinegar for that!) Other products: ketchup, mustard, hot sauce, picked items... That's what I can think of at the moment. But it has to be listed on labels, and it pops up in a lot of liquid things.
  22. It's a tricky one. Your doctors said what they said because Enterolab isn't accepted by mainstream medicine. Dr. Fine, the doctor who developed the tests and runs Enterolab, has not yet published any peer reviewed studies on the accuracy of his testing method that allow for other doctors to independently verify his methods. That doesn't mean they are wrong...
