ARCHIVED Good Karma Organic Rice Cream- Milk Allergy Alertkimjoy24 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications So I came across an FDA Alert about this product after trying to figure out why I feel like crap this week. The only thing different- I ate about a half a pint of the Good Karma Mudd Pie Rice Cream on Sunday. The good news: It was really tasty. Great texture. No after-taste. The bad news: Apparently it may have contained some hidden milk proteins....

ARCHIVED Wellshire Kids Chicken Biteskimjoy24 replied to Nantzie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications I've bought them at the Whole Foods in Atlanta, GA.

I'm experiencing the same thing- I've been very careful as well, but there's no telling if it was a bit of cross-contamination or if it's a touch of a stomach bug or just early PMS. Regardless, I'm gassy, gurgly, rumbly, and fuzzy in the head. Usually my gluten reactions hit the very next morning but this started late afternoon yesterday so I'm stumped....

ARCHIVED Bell & Evans Gluten Free Chicken Nuggetskimjoy24 replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications I agree with the positive reviews. I was so excited that my local WF got them in- I had been checking every week and all of a sudden there they were- I was several feet away but I started running towards the freezer case- I think I scared a mother and child browsing in the area. I like the fact that we have a choice between tenders and nuggets.

ARCHIVED Natural Feast Pieskimjoy24 replied to tammy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications I had the chocolate mousse and actually liked it. The crust was blah, but the filling was pretty good, though not as sweet as a regular pie would be. I think the other flavors require heating, the chocolate mousse just has to be thawed so I don't know if that makes any difference with other people's more negative experiences. The shipping fee is insane online...

ARCHIVED Gluten Easekimjoy24 replied to vallojo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications I bought some of these at the health food store as well. I had already read on the board what they were supposed to be and knew they weren't a miracle cure, but I am curious to see if they will possibly help out with cross-contamination issues. I eat out frequently and attend events where food is present for my job and while I have avoiding obvious gluten...

ARCHIVED Don't Go To Ca Dreamingkimjoy24 replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants I actually had to do a profile of them for AOL CityGuide Atlanta. It's not convenient to where I live so I never considered actually eating there. Not only is the remark rude, but possibly inaccurate. Not all steaks are created equally. Depending upon the marinade it's cooked in, or the sauce it's served with, it could definitely contain gluten. On their...

ARCHIVED Atlanta Journal Constitution Article About Food Allergieskimjoy24 posted a topic in Publications & Publicity Just noticed this article, it's more about food allergies in general, but does mention wheat (though not gluten): Open Original Shared Link Nothing new in the article for most of us, but decent by this paper's standards, known by disgruntled locals as the "Atlanta Urinal & Constipation". Note: you may have to sign-up on their website...

I thought ridiculous liquor laws were contained to the Bible Belt deep South- guess I was wrong! That's exciting news for you and shows what persistence can do.

ARCHIVED How Does Jury Duty Work?kimjoy24 replied to floridanative's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I had jury duty recently myself at the Fulton County courthouse. I've been called three times in my nine years of living here in Atlanta, but I've never actually been picked for a jury. This most recent visit was no different. I brought along a gluten-free energy bar for breakfast, and then a Thai Kitchen rice noodle bowl for lunch. The courthouse I was...

ARCHIVED Lindt Chocolatekimjoy24 replied to Moongirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications If you stick with the plain dark chocolate bars you should be fine...I eat them all the time and have never had a reaction. Lindt is my default good quality chocolate when I'm at Publix and can't find anything else. There is a cross-contamination warning as was previously pointed out so if you are ultra-sensitive, you would want to take that into consideration...

I sprung for the full 96-food panel test from Optimum Health Resource, took it over Memorial Day weekend and had it in the mail the day after Memorial Day. They claim it takes 4-6 weeks from the time they receive the sample to have the lab perform their analysis. Well, now it is mid-August and I still don't have my test results. I emailed them first, and...

Gazpacho, "cold soup", can be a refreshing summertime dish. I've been eating a watermelon version at a local organic-friendly restaurant in which I asked the chef-owner exactly what was in it and it is gluten-free. I came across an article in a local magazine that indicated that traditionally, gazpacho is made with bread. To be honest I didn't believe the...

ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Dietkimjoy24 replied to Merika's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease I tried the SCD, actually before figuring out I was Celiac. Personally, I had great results with it. Within a week, most of my digestive troubles had vanished. You almost have to like nuts to be able to stick with the diet, as you will be using primarily nut flour in any baking you do on the SCD. Bean flour is allowed after the gut has healed a bit. The...

ARCHIVED Four Seasons In Atlantakimjoy24 replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants They will also do a gluten-free Sunday brunch for you, the chef's menu, which is a multi-course feast. I didn't even call ahead of time and the server offered to do it on the spot. I ended up just going with the regular menu so I can't tell you how it is. My dining companion had the chef's menu, non gluten-free and loved it.

So the company I work for was having a meeting here in Atlanta. They are based in NYC, so they asked me for restaurant recommendations near their hotel. I knew I would be attending the dinner as well, but I went ahead and recommended South City Kitchen, even though I knew the Southern cuisine menu would not be particularly gluten-free friendly. I was concerned...

Here is a link from their Web site...I'm not sure if their revamped product is back on the market yet...when that happens, they should post what individual stores are selling it again. But this link will show the distributors in each state: http://www.bardsbeer.com/distributors.asp

ARCHIVED Cheese Burger In Paradise!kimjoy24 replied to MySuicidalTurtle's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants OOPS, SORRY- I misread, you were looking for Bonefish! floridanative, there is a Boneheads Grill in Atlanta- one recently opened at Atlantic Station: Open Original Shared Link

ARCHIVED Thai Kitchen Noodle Cartskimjoy24 replied to elonwy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications I eat both the bowls and the noodle carts probably 3 times a week, and never have had a negative reaction. They've really been a godsend...they are one of the cheaper prepared gluten-free items on the market. I can't remember if they have the "prepared in a facility which processes wheat, etc." warning on them or not. Do you think it could be cross-contamination...

Yes, I had terrible dizziness a couple of years ago that has slowly resolved over the past year since going completely gluten-free. At first, I was told it was low blood pressure, and I was put on a high salt diet that made me completely ill. I had a MRI done, but like others mentioned, I was told I would just have to live with it. Officially they diagnosed...

ARCHIVED How Many Of Us Are Df, gluten-free, Sf, Ef, Cf, Etc. ?kimjoy24 replied to marciab's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I think you are right, Marcia. When I did the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, which essentially removes all grains and all processed foods, I immediately felt better. I never got the energy boost, but my digestive symptoms disappeared. Now I'm gluten-free, but even though I tested positive for casein intolerance, I still eat cheese and butter. Why? I discovered...

ARCHIVED I Think Ian's Changed It's Nugget Recipekimjoy24 replied to Mango04's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications This is so funny, I actually thought about posting a thread about this a couple of months ago. I noticed a change in the texture of Ian's chicken nuggets as well. I got worried, despite the "Allergen-Free" label on the front of the box, that somehow they had put the regular ones in an "Allergen-Free" box by mistake. That probably isn't possible but being...

ARCHIVED Enjoy Lifekimjoy24 replied to Lister's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications I agree- these are very tasty. It's my favorite flavor from that brand, though the chocolate chip ones aren't bad either.

ARCHIVED House Tv Show Will Feature Celiac Diseasekimjoy24 replied to irish's topic in Publications & Publicity I watch House regularly and was excited to hear about Celiac being part of an episode. I think they did a good job. The fact that House mentioned "a splash of soy sauce" suggests to me that someone did some research, whether GIG was consulted or not. Frankly, I was not aware that soy sauce had wheat in it until I had already started a gluten-free diet...

ARCHIVED Ignorant Server Of The Daykimjoy24 replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants That is so awful! This is actually one of my greatest fears when dining out...either the kitchen is going to innocently slip in an ingredient they think is gluten-free that isn't, and not tell me, or the server is going to rush over to the table after I'm halfway through the dish and say, "Ooops, we gave you the wrong one. That one isn't gluten-free!" ...
