ARCHIVED Brand New Celiac
Ursa Major replied to TheLibertarian's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I felt I an almost instant improvement, even though I was sick all my life, and severely ill all summer. My diarrhea stopped the day after starting the gluten-free diet, the terrible backpain started getting better the second day, and the awful muscle and joint pains improved so much within two weeks that I could stop the codeine I was on 24 hours a day ... -
ARCHIVED Gf 6 Months But Still Bad Biopsy!
Ursa Major replied to jmarie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Marie, if you're doing all the cooking that could definitely be the problem. Do you bake? I read that flour particles will be in the air for 24 hours after baking/cooking with flour. Of course, you'll inhale some, and you'll be glutened! My family isn't allowed to bake anything not gluten-free in my house anymore. And I won't cook anything with gluten... -
Elisabet, unless you're in Europe, oats are out. Here in North America they're all contaminated by gluten containing grains (processed in the same mill, I guess).

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Etiquette?
Ursa Major replied to Smunkeemom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Smunkeemom, I agree with the others, you weren't rude at all, it was the other people who were. And she calls herself a Christian? Wow! In contrast, everyone in my church is so sensitive and accomodating and sweet about my diet needs. That's as upsetting as when my youngest daughter wasn't invited to her best friend's birthday party three houses down when... -
Sometimes I get itchy from head to toe, and scratch so much that I have red welts all over! But I think it is starting to get a little better. And of course, I have a long way to go before I'll be at the six month mark for my gluten-free diet. So, I am hoping it will go away eventually.

My homeopath (who I stay in contact with via e-mail) told me to go and buy sepia at the health food store (it's a homeopathic remedy). She said that 200 C is best. You take one dose of 3 pellets under your tongue once the first day and then again the next day, and that should do it for the time being. If you can only get the 30 C strength (which I had to...

ARCHIVED Grr... Need To Rant About Doctors....
Ursa Major replied to Smunkeemom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
There you go, from the mouths of babes...............She is so very right! She sounds like an amazing, strong, beautiful child. -
ARCHIVED Could Everyone Help Me
Ursa Major replied to Danijela's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The problems I had from the time I was a three (or less, but I can't remember) were muscle and joint pain, severe backaches, asthma, depression, canker sores, psoriasis, fatigue, brain fog, inability to concentrate, mood swings, unable to gain weight (until the age of 19, after which I had trouble keeping slim), many allergies and intolerances (both food... -
ARCHIVED Grr... Need To Rant About Doctors....
Ursa Major replied to Smunkeemom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Poor Kathryn, I had the exact symptoms she does when I was her age, and I was miserable (add asthma to the mix, though). So what the biopsy was negative, she very obviously has celiac disease and needs to be off gluten now! I am sorry I can't help with finding new, more knowledgable doctors. I hope somebody else can help you with that. How ignorant... -
ARCHIVED What Do You Think About My Baby Boy...
Ursa Major replied to e&j0304's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Shannon, why wait for testing? If you put him and yourself on a gluten-free diet and see improvement, that should be all the evidence you need at this point. I talked to my daughter yesterday, and I think she is going to try the twins on a gluten-free diet to see what happens. She said that Ethan often wakes up from his nap crying unconsolably, saying... -
ARCHIVED Need Help Still Very Confused!
Ursa Major replied to dad's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Okay, so it may be gluten-free (which is good), but is it SAFE for anybody? Sounds possibly toxic to me. -
ARCHIVED Concerned For Teenaged Daughter
Ursa Major posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
The more research I do, the more I am convinced that my youngest daughter (13, in grade 9) is gluten intolerant. We had her tested for food intolerances three years ago, and she is definitely intolerant to all dairy. I won't allow her to have any of it when home, but I know that she cheats when visiting friends. Ice cream makes her incredibly hyper, really... -
ARCHIVED New To Site
Ursa Major replied to suz2024's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Suz, ALL the symptoms your daughter has could be celiac disease related, including the asthma, I just learned from my research. I've had asthma most of my life. By the time I was four I had terrible muscle pains, by the time I was eight the awful backaches started, and so did the depression. Don't wait for testing to be done, put her on the gluten-free... -
ARCHIVED What Do You Think About My Baby Boy...
Ursa Major replied to e&j0304's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Ella, he sure sounds like he is gluten intolerant as well. And yes, he probably gets it through the breast milk. In order to keep breastfeeding him, you'll have to go onto the gluten-free diet yourself (a sacrifice that may be worth it for you, since it would be temporary). And of course, you'll have to switch his diet to be gluten-free (which at this early... -
ARCHIVED My 15 Yr Old Daughter
Ursa Major replied to vicrn98's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Actually, in addition to getting some into your mouth, you need to realize that any liquid touching your skin will find it's way into your bloodstream! So, it's not just getting it into your mouth. Plus, I have DH on my scalp (always thought it was psoriasis before). I checked my shampoo, and it had wheat germ in it. My scalp was always itchy. Since... -
ARCHIVED Need Help Still Very Confused!
Ursa Major replied to dad's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Dad, I am sorry to hear that your daughter has both diabetes and now celiac disease. Unfortunately, it is likely that she developed diabetes because she had a gluten intolerance all along, and gluten intolerance can cause diabetes. You don't just develop gluten intolerance, you have it from birth. It may not cause obvious symptoms right from the start... -

That would be nice. Where do you live? -
I want to clarify that I am not trying to attack anybody here, and I really feel for all the people with depression and bi-polar or any other mental illness people are diagnosed with. But SSRIs don't ever heal anything, they suppress symptoms. They don't even address the cause of the symptoms, ever! Depression always has a cause. Be it emotional upset, illness...

ARCHIVED Gastro Put Me On Gluten Challenge
Ursa Major replied to Wandering Hermit's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hermit, I understand your position. I experienced an instant, dramatic difference to my health within a DAY of stopping gluten two and a half weeks ago, and have been improving ever since........my terrible backaches are going away, the diarrhea has stopped completely, my energy level is up, the Tourette tics are lessening, I'm off the codeine I've been taking... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy
Ursa Major replied to kirstymorrison's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Wow, I can't believe what I am reading here, Jenn. A pediatric GI said this? Unbelievable. He should be tarred and feathered! I agree with the others that your son needs to be off gluten as well. Don't bother with testing, just get him on a gluten-free diet! It's bad enough they claim kids get growing pains in their legs (right, I've had them from the age... -
ARCHIVED Anyone From Toronto Canada
Ursa Major replied to griffen169's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi, I am in Alliston, about 50 miles north of Toronto (southwest of Barrie). I am 52 years old, and just figured out two and a half weeks ago that I've had full blown celiac disease all summer, and gluten intolerance all my life (was diagnosed with fibromyalgia). Yesterday I found that it is likely lectin intolerance (which includes gluten), which leaves... -
As far as I can tell it's just the doctor's opinion, there is no test to prove you are bipolar. And it's a myth that any mental disorders are caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. That hypothesis has never been proven. They don't even know what the right chemical balance is! What is known is that SSRIs CAUSE a chemical imbalance. And to give SSRIs...

Stephanie, somebody in another thread posted a link to a site you may be interested in. Through that I found out that I am very likely not just intolerant to gluten, but to lectin (which includes gluten). I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia a few years ago (after having awful muscle and joint pains all my life). I figured out I had celiac disease two weeks...

Hi, I also have a bad reaction to all nightshades. Potatoes give me terrible bowel problems (usually by the next day), tomatoes give me migraines and some bowel problems, and I'm not sure what peppers do exactly, but I have no intention of eating any to find out!
