  1. Actually, I disagree with that. As I said, everybody is different. That statement may be true for you, but isn't true for everybody. If I don't eat ENOUGH meat, I get constipated. If I eat lots of it, I will be most regular, and go twice a day.
  2. I just want to add here, that what works for one person may not work for another. I find that bananas will make me more constipated. When I first went off gluten my intestines were too damaged to be able to tolerate ANYTHING raw for two months. I had to cook even fruits, or I'd get an awful stomach ache. Now, after nearly three months, I am able to eat...
  3. I just want to add, that pretty much all people with 'developmental delays' (as in being on the autistic spectrum) have low serotonin levels. Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (RRSIs, of which Zoloft is one) will lower those serotonin levels even more, making things worse instead of better. People on the autistic spectrum need to boost their serotonin levels...
  4. Hi ERA'S mom, Antidepressants can cause seizures and depression, as well as suicidal tendencies. Going off those (closely monitored by a doctor, as the withdrawal symptoms can be horrendous, especially for Zoloft) might 'cure' all those problems. The depression may have been caused by Celiac Disease, and therefore going off gluten will hopefully eventually...
  5. Hi Kim, I am having a rough time myself now, got somehow glutened over the holidays and don't know how. And started eating sherbet yesterday that must have contained gluten, and kept eating, even after my stomach started aching, because 'it didn't matter anyway now' (wrong, I realize today, with my horrible aches all over, it does matter). I am also suffering...
  6. Merika, what you say makes so much sense! Besides the fact that I was on strong painkillers 24 hours a day for years, which obviously stopped me from feeling a lot of things. Now that I stopped taking them, I feel every little pain and twinge, that would be unnoticable before. Also, now my other intolerances seem to make me sicker than before. But when...
  7. BK, I am 52 years old, and just found out in October that I have Celiac Disease. I also started to feel a ton better right away, and lost 20 lb in two months (my weight was ballooning out of control, for no apparent reason, since I was eating all 'healthy' stuff). But now I am feeling worse again, and actually had to take the codeine I used to take for fibromyalgia...
  8. I checked out the Reliv website. And yes, their main formula has wheat in it, and another one is mainly soy. Obviously, the first one is out for all Celiacs, and the second for everybody who has an intolerance to soy. Meaning, that I could never have it, either. A couple of years ago (before I knew anything about Celiac disease, never mind realizing I...
  9. Mandy, I don't believe the red wine should have been the problem. It's more likely that crumbs from all that bread got into the salad, or that somebody preparing spaghetti or touched bread first, then made the salad and got gluten into it. Since you didn't prepare the food, there are a ton of ways the food you ate could have gotten contaminated. You'll never...
  10. We went to have Christmas dinner on Sunday at my husband's brother's house. My sister-in-law was genuinely concerned, but still forgot, and put regular flour into the gravy (oops.......so I couldn't eat it), my brother-in-law put dressing into the salad first, before he showed me the bottle, saying, "Surely, that should be okay?" Which it wasn't, because...
  11. Immodium made me so much worse! I find what really helps me is a homeopathic remedy called Sepia (you can buy it in the health food store). When I get a stomach ache, I dissolve 3 - 6 little pills under my tongue (depending on how bad I feel), and it helps within a couple of minutes. Its a real life saver for me. And has no side effects, either. I have the...
  12. That doctor obviously knows very little about Celiac disease. Has your daughter had a biopsy of the small intestine, to check for damage? That should really be the next step, before going on the diet. And then, whether or not this test comes out positive, she should try the diet. Because the tests can give a false negative, the diet is the ultimate test....
  13. Well, for brunch I had a stirfry of ground chicken, lots of onion, carrots and mushrooms. For a snack some mixed nuts and later some dark chocolate. And for supper another stir fry, consisting of beef strips, onion, mushrooms and brussel sprouts. Water to drink, and lots of supplements to regenerate my depleted body, so I get some energy back. And...
  14. I've had my gallbladder removed because of gallstones ten years ago. My sister (who undoubtedly has celiac disease as well, and is getting herself tested now) has had hers out a few years ago. And my mother had gallstones as well and had her gallbladder removed in her forties as well. And she died of liver cancer at the age of 66. She had all the very same...
  15. I only want to add that it doesn't matter about kids, because you can always decide to feed them gluten containing foods for a while (unless they have an obvious reaction) and have them tested when quite little. Since you decide on all your kid's health issues/testing as long as they are dependent on you, you can make that decision. I even forced my 14-year...

    ARCHIVED Joints Pains, You Too?

I have had joint and muscle pains from the age of three, for 49 years. I remember a time when I was about four, when my legs were aching so badly that my mother put a chair over my legs and the blanket over that, because I couldn't tolerate the weight of the blanket on my legs. The past four years the pains in my legs, feet, arms, hands and back especially...
  17. Now, this would be funny if it wasn't so sad . They know you can't have their doughnuts, but want you to join their club? How stupid can people be, and self centered, too! Oh well, I guess you won't be eating any Krispy Kreme doughnuts in your lifetime.
  18. Fortunately, I don't have that problem. My family has seen me being ill for so long, they're all relieved that the cause has finally been found, and they can see an improvement. I hope your family will come around to being more understanding. Maybe if you give them some information to read? Why not start with the little Celiac brochure on this site, it...
  19. Well, I haven't had those dreams yet, but I bet I will at some point. I always seem to dream about things that are difficult for me. I miss German Christmas cookies, I always bought them at Christmas time, and German Christmas cake, too. I didn't eat cookies very often, but I always ate them at this time of year. I also miss my German rye bread...
  20. Hi, I want to add that when I was so ill all summer, I couldn't tolerate ANY supplements at all, not even liquid vitamins. They made the diarrhea and stomach cramps worse, and went right through me anyway, without doing any good. So, the high iron supplementation may do more harm than good. The only helpful way right now would be bypassing the stomach...
  21. I am afraid I have to agree with the others. I also had obvious (just not to the doctors) symptoms of gluten intolerance all my life. Then, this past May, I somehow thought that a liver cleanse would be a good idea (and it is), but you have to start with your bowels. Within a week of starting the bowel cleanse, I went into full blown Celiac disease, and was...
  22. Don't just take that much vitamin D, without having your levels checked first. Which is a good idea for celiacs, anyway. As you can see in my signature, pretty much all I can eat is meat, vegetables (not nearly all of them) and fruit (and some of those are no good, like bananas and some melons). I eat meat and vegetables for my main foods (yes, even for...
  23. Maggie, my son-in-law and one of my daughters (not his wife) were tested to be intolerant to sugar. When Jason stopped eating all sugar (they sweeten everything with honey or maple syrup now), his terrible excema cleared right up (which he had all his life). So, it is possible to actually be intolerant to sugar and nothing else. You might also be intolerant...
  24. Well, here is the good and the bad news for today. Ken and I went for supper instead of lunch, and went to the little restaurant. The owner left just as we got there, and left a young man in charge. I explained to him in detail what I needed and what I was intolerant to, and he seemed to understand. Unfortunately, they had no vegetables I could eat...
  25. I felt soooooooooo sick for the entire pregnancy with all five children, and gained an enormous amount of weight with each of them (35 to 45 lb), and was never able to lose all of it again. When you add eight miscarriages (doubtlessly caused by Celiac), I was either pregnant, breastfeeding or just had a miscarriage for the first 16 years of marriage (my youngest...
