  1. I had my gallbladder out when I was 28, so I was young, too. I wasn't clear about the aloe vera, sorry. I drink 2 ounces every day, generally just once a day. On days I have any issues .... nausea, diarrhea or its cousin constipation, queasiness, etc. .... I drink 2 more ounces. I have GERD of "epic proportions" according to my gastro doc. I take...
  2. Zofran helps once the nausea has hit, for me. It's sublingual, so no trying to swallow liquid or keep something down. Once that's taken effect, the aloe helps soothe things. I had my gall bladder removed 35 years ago, so my personal experience is outdated with today's technology. My husband just had his removed last month. His surgeon said that...
  3. I do understand ... a few days of eating less that healthy food makes me miserable, too. We're trying to plan a trip to the west coast, and the area we stay in has limited hotel choices. So I'm scouring for things I can take that are easy to pack in a suitcase. I've found Quinoa flakes that are instant (90 seconds with hot water). So, if there's not...
  4. My shampoo and hair conditioner. I had to change brands. And Bumble and Bumble "hair thickening spray". Got it in my eyes. Crazy. I found that Target's gluten free pasta is also processed on equipment that processes wheat items.
  5. Yikes. I guess I got lucky, or ordered the right thing at the right time. Although, people are often more likely to report a negative experience than a positive one, ya know?
  6. This local restaurant has gluten free offerings, and have even brought me a jar of sauce to read the label myself (just in case). Open Original Shared Link DB McMillan's Pub and Grill 23415 Three Notch Road California, MD 20619
  7. I've done that with the microwave meals. Another thing I pack are nuts. Almonds especially. Raw veggies and I seem to have a disagreement lately. I like them, but they do not like me. mmmm. Hummus. I even use rice crackers with hummus, since veggies don't set well. I bought some new plastic containers with screw on lids, they seem to work well...
  8. My thought was packing a "ready bag" or a "go bag", with things that have a long shelf life. An unopened pack of pepperoni, a box of gluten-free crackers, a package or two of tuna or salmon, small packs of mayo (I've "borrowed" some from restaurants ;-) ), chips, jerky ... even some of those squeeze packs of fruit meant for kids ... If you're driving, that...
  9. Thought I'd come back and share our St. Louis Dining options. It was exciting to be somewhere with REAL options. I was almost giddy. We ate at Pi Pizza in Kirkwood. Our server was young and eager to please, and was extremely thorough with everything. They have a dessert called "Cookies for Everyone", which are vegan friendly and gluten free. And yummy...
  10. Something disposable with soap and water. I got glutened by a toddler ... not even thinking. I picked her up and she stuck a Cheerio in my mouth. YAY. That didn't go so well, for me.
  11. My husband and I are obsessive compulsive planners. Our road trips are planned extensively, and I do vast amounts of research before we leave. We live in Tiny Town, USA, so travelling to any Big City brings some glee ... because I know I can find somewhere to be social and dine with others .... Travelling around our area requires a cooler and food from...
  12. My nausea hits hard and fast, and is severe. I have a prescription for Zofran. That's about the only thing that stops it when it is vicious. I also drink Aloe Vera Juice. I use Georges Fractionally Distilled, and drink 2-4 ounces a day. It's made a huge difference.
  13. I just had this conversation with my grandson (of all people) yesterday. He's 12 and lives with us fulltime. He's seen me unconscious on the bathroom floor, you name it. He knows. He is my best "gluten spy" ... "Did you read the label on that? Is there gluten in that?" He has explained Celiac Disease to adult family members who "doubt" my diagnosis. Bless...
  14. Thanks for those suggestions, africanqueen99. I'll check them out.
  15. When McDonald's own website says here's what's in the fries, and here's what they are prepared in I'm going to tend to trust that they put beef flavoring that is wheat based in the fries. The oils they are prepared in are just oils.
  16. I was basing it off the list of ingredients IN the fries. Which shows the beef flavoring as an ingredient IN the fry. Followed by a list of oils it is fried in.
  17. We're driving from Maryland to St. Louis later this summer for a week long visit. Fortunately, we'll be staying at a friend's house and I can handle my own breakfast, etc. Looking for dining out options that have good gluten free options, aside from the standard chains like Red Robin and Five Guys, etc. My granddaughter works at Amighetti and apparently...
  18. The only places I have been able to eat French fries is at Five Guys (the only thing they deep fry are French fries, which are cut on site from fresh potatoes), and Red Robin. They have a dedicated fryer ... however, as the manager has said "I wouldn't suggest eating them late on a busy Friday evening. Even with precautions in place, accidents happen and...
  19. McDonald's French fries in the US contain Natural beef flavor, which is wheat based. They are not safe for a gluten free diet. Directly copied and pasted from McDonald's website for its allergen information: FRENCH FRIES: Ingredients: Potatoes, Vegetable Oil (Canola Oil, Soybean Oil, Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Natural Beef Flavor [Wheat and Milk Derivatives...
  20. Every human body is different. We're not gizmos made on an assembly line in a factory. No two are alike. I have to be very careful about the smallest amount of cross contamination, because I have violent reactions. Down to breathing flour dust. You may not have my issues, because your body is different than mine. You are not me, and I am not you...
  21. I am also newly diagnosed ... about 6 months ago. I am much older, and have been diagnosed at age 60. Years and years and years and decades of damage to my body and intestines ... all cumulative. Which brought us to ambulances and hospital and cardiac units and a year long nightmare journey. To find that I have Celiac Disease, and have likely had it my...
  22. I was diagnosed this year with Celiac Disease. I am 60 years old this year. I spent most of my life with one thing after another -- all of them on the list of "things related to Celiac Disease". I could spend a lot of energy being angry at going undiagnosed for so long, and for all I've been through. I'm choosing to be grateful I finally have a diagnosis...
  23. I've told some people that I have a disease that makes me unable to eat gluten. I become violently ill from any trace of gluten in my food, so I have to be really careful with it. I had a young woman say "I don't think I could live without bread and pasta and my carbs!" I just said "I can't live WITH them. I think if you were told what you're eating...
  24. The only gluten allowed in my house is prepackaged stuff. Some bread and wraps for my husband and boy, who are not celiac. Our pantry has been thoroughly cleaned out, and there is one bottom shelf devoted to anything with gluten. There are plastic bins, and bags of chips, granola bars, a loaf of gluten bread, and some mac 'n' cheese bowls are in there...
  25. What I use is like drinking water. Clear, odorless, colorless and tasteless. I wouldn't be able to drink the other stuff.
