  1. I read somewhere that 25% of women get pregnant the first month they start trying. I went off the pill and got pregnant that very next month, so it wouldn't be that unusual at all! I was starting to read about basal thermometers and tracking my ovulation, thinking it would take at least a few months. I really couldn't believe it when I saw the two lines...
  2. I qualified for the best rate through New York Life, and I had to list that I had celiac. It didn't seem to be a problem at all. Lisa
  3. I have been wondering about taco seasoning as well. I have a big container of McCormick (the kind you buy at Costco), but the ingredients label gets peeled off to reveal the instructions. So I don't even have ingredients to check. Is this the same as the packets? Has anyone else used this before? I don't want to waste it if I don't have to. It's half...
  4. Wonder why not the mustard or dill pickles????
  5. Does Play-Doh have gluten in it???? We played Cranium last night, and we had to use it on one of the turns. I never even thought about that. I was eating chips and dip at the same time! Lisa
  6. It's been a few years, but I'll try to be as accurate as I remember (I'll blame it on brain fog). My doctor started out with small dosages, then once my breakouts subsided but did not completely go away, he increased it. I got up to 150 mg/day (75 twice a day). I was not on a gluten-free diet at the time. In fact the dermatologist never mentioned it to...
  7. I thought I was the only one! There are a couple things I didn't make from scratch until going gluten-free, like lasagne and pizza. The frozen versions were so much easier before! I used Tinkyada pasta as well, and cooked them all the way (didn't know any different). It turned out absolutely perfect. It was such an easy, no-hassle recipe. Here is a...
  8. I just posted on another topic in this section about homemade pizza. There is a link to a crust recipe (and the sauce is SO easy!), and some tips on rolling out the dough. We use the pizza blend cheese rather than plain mozzerella. I have two pizza pans-one with the holes on the bottom and one without. The one with the holes works better, and the regular...
  9. Does your Kitchen Aide mixer have dough beaters? I have a cheaper version, and I just discovered the other day that I was using the regular beaters when I could have been using the ones for dough. It keeps the dough from climbing up the beaters, then ending up on the walls! One easy way to work with pizza dough is to add gluten-free flour to your hands...
  10. Beverly, Children are ALWAYS a blessing, regardless of the situation! If you want one, and you are not insane or totally broke, have one! Or two, or three! We teeter-tottered whether to have a third, since ours are 5 and 10, we weren't sure about returning to the diapers, potty-training, and all the other (major) changes a baby brings. And money was...
  11. This is an edumacated guess, so someone tell me if I'm right or wrong. If this is an autoimmune disorder, and our "soldiers" get sent out to fight off the "bad guy" they think gluten is, wouldn't less "soldiers" be needed for less amount of bad guys? And vice versa? With as efficient as our body is, I can't imagine our body mounting the same counter...
  12. Celiachap- Your question is not new, and your perception of hell is not yours alone. But it is an inaccurate one. When "Judgement Day" comes, we will all realize that we have sinned against a Holy God, and we are all deserving of punishment. I know it seems harsh, but it's the truth. It only seems harsh, though, if you think that people are basically...
  13. Congratulations! It is so nice when something turns out well! Could you post your Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe? I tried some awhile back, and they didn't turn out all that great (and the $7 a bag mix doesn't work well with my budget!) Thanks! Lisa
  14. I tried chocolate chip cookies using the Bette Hagman's flour mix and the Nestle recipe (added 1/2 tsp. xantham gum). They were hard and spread out flat. Is there something I did wrong? Lisa
  15. I cannot IMAGINE living without my stand mixer! I just discovered the other day that it has dough beaters (I had been draping a towel over to keep dough from ending up on the walls!). I've always been a little paranoid about my hand mixer and stand mixer, but I haven't had any problems that I can think of. Lisa
  16. Darn! I checked, and the closest Whole Foods is in Seattle (hours and hours away). I wonder if it would work with other frozen crusts? Is it a dough mix, or one already frozen? Lisa
  17. I would say as long as you're eating enough not to worry about it. Everyone is different, and your body knows what to do. I've been filling out but the scale is not showing it. I'm about 15 weeks, and I've gained probably 6 or 7 pounds (5 of it right away). But I didn't gain any weight with my first one (not gluten-free) until 16 weeks. I lost 10 pounds...
  18. Since going gluten free, I have had a pantry full of gluten containing foods. I used to stock up on Hamburger Helper when it was on sale, so I had a ton of those. I was thinking about giving them away, but winter is hard for us financially since my husband owns a semi-seasonal business, so I decided I needed to do something with them. So yesterday, I got...
  19. The problem is with the church and the doctrine of Transubstantiation. If you believe that a certain type of bread is literally transformed into the body of Christ (which I don't), then you're out of luck if you can't have that certain type of bread. And since according to the church, salvation is obtained through good works, including something you can...
  20. I thought gluten was hard-I can't imagine soy and dairy!!! I only avoid gluten, although I notice a slight reaction after a whole bowl of cereal or ice cream. And I try to eat as many animals as I can-pork, beef, chicken, deer, elk. Pork and chicken are my favorite. Especially pork ribs. Yum!!! Lisa
  21. Tinkyada pasta is the best-you can't tell the difference at all. I've made lasagna, spaghetti, mac & cheese (elbow pasta with Velveeta-better than the real boxed kind!), and pasta alfredo. Some decent chocolate chip cookies are Pamela's in the box. I tried baking my own with a flour mix & a little xantham gum, following the Nestle recipe, and...
  22. Some more ideas: cream cheese rolled up in lunch meat pudding snacks (most are gluten-free) fritos & cheese dip (there's one in the jar that is gluten-free-can't remember brand) Progresso clam chowder (rich & creamy New England style) baked potato-Hormel chilli w/beans is gluten-free Healthy Choice & Weight Watchers have tons of gluten...
  23. Is it bad to use the same bakeware as gluten foods? I can understand cutting boards (my dad cut up my gluten-free turkey on our wooden cutting board, that we've used for a million pizzas before I went gluten-free-oh, well). But what about things you put in the dishwasher? My husband uses kitchen the same utensils I do, but they get washed before I use...
  24. I am definitely angry at having celiac. I was not sick before, maybe some brain fog and D every once in a while, but nothing terrible. I am angry that I am forced to be gluten free because I'm pregnant and can't take dapsone for my DH (and don't want to deprive the baby ), and by the time I can have dapsone again, I may be so sensitive to gluten that I...
  25. Just wondering if anyone has had to do a paper mache project and how you approached it. gluten-free flour is way too expensive to use, and I am very leary about soaking my hands in regular flour (not to mention getting it everywhere-it is so messy!) Luckily, my husband is helping out, so I am sitting out. Has anyone had a reaction after making paper mache...
