ARCHIVED How Fast Do You React To Accidental Ingestion?
Idahogirl replied to carrielynn's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
It usually happens within an hour or so with me. But, like your son, I break out from gluten, but don't have noticeable GI issues. I have been diagnosed with celiac, so I know it's there, but even when I get glutened and have itchiness, I do not get a stomach ache or bad D, or any reactions like that. Also, I had DH since I was a kid, but celiac symptoms... -
ARCHIVED Dapsone Experiences? (from A Newbie)
Idahogirl replied to chestnut's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I started on Dapsone immediately after being diagnosed with DH, and it cleared up right away. Miracle pill! I didn't alter my diet at all for many, many years and the dapsone was enough to suppress outbreaks. I did get to the point where my red blood cell count was so low that they could not increase the dosage even if needed (they started off with small... -

I would also love a copy. Thanks so much! My email is buncenburner@verizon.net. Lisa -
ARCHIVED Do You Ever Miss The Stupid Things?
Idahogirl replied to Lauren M's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thought of some more: Lucky Charms, custard filled donuts, Raviolis (Chef Boyardee), Tuna Helper, Oreo Blizzards, fish sticks, garlic bread, oyster crackers on my clam chowder, granola bars (chocolate covered..mmmm...), those rolled up things with meat and cream cheese in a wrap, mozerella sticks w/marinara sauce, club sandwich, Campbell's Tomato Soup... -
ARCHIVED Does This Happen To Others, Or Am I Weirdo?
Idahogirl replied to VydorScope's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I really wish I felt that way! The reason that the junk food and fast food is so popular is because it tastes SO GOOD! I don't know if all of the negative association in the world could change that for me! If only I craved rice and veggies. My brain knows that those foods are supposed to be "better for you", but my body says something different. I've... -
ARCHIVED Does It Get Better?
Idahogirl replied to StrongerToday's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thank you for all of the encouragement! I have been diagnosed with celiac, I was just saying that if I don't take my dapsone, I would be miserable on the outside, so even if I wanted to cheat or quit, it wouldn't be worth it. I have a great therapist-Jesus! He gets me through a lot. Lisa -
Praise the Lord! I am so looking forward to the new labeling! Lisa

ARCHIVED How To Replace Cream Soups?
Idahogirl replied to chrissy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have used the Progresso, and just added corn starch. It was just like Campbells! Lisa -
ARCHIVED Where's The Best Place To Buy Ingredients?
Idahogirl replied to chrissy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I lucked out because there is a gluten free store in my area. Fred Meyer has a lot of stuff, but mine did not have Tinkyada pasta. You can find that at some grocery stores (it is the best!). I would suggest checking out the different stores in your area, you may be surprised at what they carry. I was able to find all of the Bob's Red Mill flours (even... -
ARCHIVED Does It Get Better?
Idahogirl replied to StrongerToday's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't think I'm making it complicated at all. I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible, but I am a realist. I have a husband and two young boys (growing so much!) and one on the way. I am the only one gluten free. Because I don't work, I have always been very frugal and buy everything on sale. This diet is so expensive. If I were single and, say... -
ARCHIVED Top 5 Naturally Gluten Free Foods
Idahogirl replied to JessicaB's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I believe Pace taco sauce (red in the squeeze bottle) is gluten free. There are probably other squeeze bottle taco sauces that are gluten-free. My top five are: Taquitos Fritos/tortilla chips Potatoes Cocoa Pebbles All meat Lisa -
Steph- They have pregnancy tests at the dollar store, and they work just as good as the $10 ones. Make sure to check the box, since they tend to get stolen (I got home with two empty boxes without realizing it!) My dollar store test said pregnant the day BEFORE I was supposed to start my period, and usually you have to wait until the day after! ...

ARCHIVED Pregnancy And Celiac Sprue And Age...
Idahogirl replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Well, I went off the pill and got pregnant the first month. I didn't start the gluten-free diet until I found out I was pregnant, and I ate a lot of gluten foods before that point. I am 11 weeks, and everything seems to be fine. Also, I have had one pregnancy before this, and it went perfect (before diagnosis). kim07, Hats off to you for being so... -
ARCHIVED Does It Get Better?
Idahogirl replied to StrongerToday's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've been doing this for about 7 weeks, and I am still paranoid. In fact, it has kind of increased with my awareness. My family is not gluten free, so I am always wondering if they ate a sandwich, then touched the refrigerator door and left crumbs. Or the microwave. Or the sink handle. Or if some crumbs might be in my husband's facial hair. I don't... -
ARCHIVED Do You Ever Miss The Stupid Things?
Idahogirl replied to Lauren M's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I miss..... Pizza Hut, *Subway seafood & crab sandwich*, Taco Bell 7-layer burritos, mexican pizza, gorditas, Whoppers, Quarter pounders w/cheese, chocolate cake w/milk (for $.89 a box), Oreos, Nacho Cheese Doritos, corn dogs, real grilled cheese sandwich, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Chicken in a Biscuit, Ritz, Golden Puffs, Cocoa Puffs, croutons, Girl... -
It comes and goes for me. My wedding cake topper was in my parents' freezer 500 miles away, so Thanksgiving was the first time since our 1st anniversary that we were able to get it out. Everyone around me had a piece of my wedding cake topper (it was really dry, they said, but still looked good). That was kind of depressing. The hardest thing for me...

ARCHIVED Does Anyone Else Get Unnaturally Excited...
Idahogirl replied to Lauren M's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I can identify with all of you! When I found out I could have Hormel chilli, which is like Nalley's, I just about did a cartwheel in the aisle. I thought I would never have chilli dip again! Another time, I found out there is a store about 20 minutes from my house that used to be just a low-carb store. He has hooked up with the local celiac group, and... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Anxiety Dreams!
Idahogirl replied to laurelfla's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have a gluten anxiety dream every night! I'll realize I ate a bagel for breakfast, and it's too late. Or I'll be in the middle of eating a McDonald's cheeseburger, and think "wait, what am I doing?" But I tend to have dreams where I do things then realize later that I totally screwed up (I use to dream about abandoning my son at Wal-Mart or other horrible... -
I've seen lots of posts about organic and all-natural products. Does anyone have ideas for cheap and synthetic? I am mainly concerned about makeup products (store brands-it'll be expensive enough to buy all new makeup!). Does anyone use Cover Girl pressed powder?

ARCHIVED Hormel Chilli
Idahogirl replied to Idahogirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Their website says that the Hot chilli is gluten free? Maybe they've changed the ingredients. And oatmeal in chilli? That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard of. -
ARCHIVED Ensure Brand Healthy Mom Shakes
Idahogirl replied to Neva's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I noticed they have a mini-fridge in my doctor's office waiting room full of them (free to try). I tried the chocolate and I loved it! Just like chocolate milk. They sound pricey, but would be a good treat or booster when needed! Lisa -
I use Paul Mitchell freeze 'n' shine, and it doesn't list wheat products. What kind of Paul Mitchell hairspray did you use? Their mousse seems okay, too. Lisa

ARCHIVED Product Updates
Idahogirl replied to eeyor-fan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use ProActiv and I checked out the ingredients on the bottle when I first started the gluten-free diet. None of them appear to have gluten. Not when checked against the list of forbidden ingredients on this site anyways. Lisa -
ARCHIVED Is There A Safe Rice Cerial Like Rice Krispies?
Idahogirl replied to nobeer4me's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've noticed that my Wal-Mart still has some of the old Malt-o-Meal Cocoa Dyno-bites (chocolate rice krispies). They added wheat this summer to their ingredients, but take a peek when you're at the store and see if you can still find some. Cheaper than Cocoa Pebbles and the same thing. The old bags are a darker brown. Check ingredients, not just lists...
