  1. Most people don't know how to react to our problem so they think we are paranoid. If you are as sensitive as I am and it sounds like many are, there is no such thing as paranoid. Tell your mother Chelsea, to make gravy out of cornstarch it makes more for less and no gluten and just as good if not better than flour. As sick as I get with such a small bit of gluten I think we can not be too careful.

I live alone. I have replaced all my spatulas, pots, pans, and wooden and plastic spoons. I found Silicone shells for my muffin tins and tossed out all my plastic bowls.

  2. I had written to Stouffers and got such a vague answer as to whether they had anything that was gluten-free or if it was made in a place that does the meals with gluten in it.

What I got out of their email was some do not have wheat or gluten in them but they cannot guarantee them gluten-free. As they are all made in the same facility as the ones with wheat or gluten. It was very badly worded and written.

  3. My mother and I discussed the other night how sensitive I am to small particles of gluten.

It is like being an alcoholic, when an alcoholic or drug addict goes off of the drugs or booze for any length of time. If they use again it effects them harder than before and it becomes more difficult for them to quit because they are addicted. Like things people are allergic to you either crave them or hate them.

We are like gluten addicts some of us will gobble them up if we have not immediate ill effects but if you are like me then, you would never want to touch the stuff. I am so sick on minute amounts if I ate bigger things with gluten, I don't even want to imagine what I would go through.

  4. Welcome to the board Danielle. You will find not just great information and support here but great recipes.

My cross contamination issues are from eating out, like today and my stomach still hurts and I am bloated up like the Goodyear Blimp. I cleaned my whole house, disenfected it and got all new pots and pans ( mine were more than 20 years old and scratched), when I found out I had to be totally gluten-free. Although there has been some lotion or makeup issues but I think I have tossed those out.

It is so much harder and my heart goes out to those who have to try to be gluten-free in a house that still has gluten in it and for those who have no symptoms.

  5. For those who are having trouble with friends and family clueing into what we go through. They could photocopy the article and give it to them to read Maybe then people will begin to see what a small amount could do to us.

As soon as Chapters gets it in I told them to call me so, I could pick it up.

  6. I just had some fries at New York Fries in Market Mall, Calgary. This is the second time it has happened so it will never happen again. They assured me their oil was Sunflower oil, nothing is cooked in there but the fresh cut fries that have no gluten etc., in them. However, it is now twice that I have been very ill with sweating, pain, and nausea, D and almost vomiting. I fear that because they have hot dogs and buns there that maybe gluten flakes from the buns are in the fry containers or in the oil. It takes a very, very small amount, just crumbs to make me sick.

Has anyone else eaten there and had this problem there?

  7. Believe me I know where you are coming from on this. I went through this with so many doctors not just on this disease but on the Hashimoto's as well and pernicious anemia. Vent away when they blather to me about this and that, I tell them I have had my body much longer than they have been admiring it so, who knows better how I feel me or them.

Time to book appointments with our veterinarians.

  8. I know that it takes a very small amount even just a few crumbs for me to react. So, I know my limitations and how awful I feel so cheating is not an option or something I even think about.

Radman--As you have found out, we become addictive...lol. I guess you come back to talk to us for the same reason we do, so that we can share experiences, gluten-free recipes and find out information that we can not find out from other sources. Also, it helps us all feel not so alone but yes, I think we all are off the wall kind of crazies and perhaps that is also a condition of Celiac Disease or Gluten intolerance.

As for Gorilla Munch, I am in Canada and get it either at health food stores or in Safeway.

Here is their website, they are in the US Open Original Shared Link. You could probably get a list of stores from them. Believe the Gorilla Munch is like corn pops only better.
