I remind my self of the pain and suffering I suffered with wheat and gluten and I don't miss it anymore. If it is pizza I am missing I make myself a gluten-free one the way I like, with pesto sauce.
-
I was strange before so, this hasn't changed anything in that respect. Just I will be a gluten-free person forever. Let us not think of ourselves as abnormal but that we are more normal than those eating gluten. How many of them are having problems and not knowing why? I prefer to think we are special, the chosen ones of the gods.

Are you talking about baked beans, pork and beans, kidney beans etc.? Or just one specific type of beans?
Baked beans and pork and beans may contain gluten. Make sure you read labels and if in doubt check it out. Kidney beans and other beans I have found mostly okay. Of course you could always buy the above beans in dry form soak them and cook them yourself.

Well, I play it safe and make my own. I use tomato sauce, garlic and red, green and yellow peppers with oregano, basil, onions, mushrooms etc.

When I wrote to Avon one month ago their reply was this,"We have no idea of the ingredients in any of our products as they are made by other companies. We do not find it necessary to require a list of ingredients from them at this time or in the near future."
If you do not think I was pissed off, think again.

I don't think there is anyone of us on here who didn't have a problem giving up gluten. Over 15 years ago when I was told I had a wheat allergy and should give up the gluten, I figured as long as it was not shortening my life then I would continue. Well, as it was really Celiac but know one knew or tested etc. I did not know then the hazards of having Celiac. At that time I couldn't give up the wheat and gluten. If my sister hadn't pushed me to have the test and impressed upon me her friends who had colonoscopy and has to have a bag the rest of their life, or the possiblility of stomach cancer and other problems. Then with the positive testing of DH I am now vigilant over being gluten-free. All I have to think of is the pain, the DH and all the other problems I had and got with being on gluten and it stops me.
Just like others have said it is like quiting drugs, smoking, alcohol. You have to hit rock bottom first and my rock bottom was realizing that this can kill me, slowly and painfully and I am not one who likes pain.

It doesn't hurt. They scrape off some of the skin that is dry scaley by the sores. The freaking affliction hurts more than the biopsy. I had to go back on gluten for a week just so I would have an huge outbreak. My dh can show up in a few hours with even a slight glutening.
The dermatologist was not going to do it because it wasn't in the "normal" place. I told him to humor me and do it for my peace of mind. He was surprised because he thought all Celiacs were thin and all DH was elbows and knees.
-
I am in on this one too.

Some of mine improved within the first couple of weeks. The rest will take more time, I suspect.

I haven't had a gall bladder since I was 20. They need to go back to the drawing board.

I had the same problem with gluten along with the smell and when I first went gluten-free that is when they started to float.
I have no problems with apples I eat 3 or more a day.

Frget the "personal picture" one, just do the avatar and add your picture through the browse function. It will take awhile to come up.

Have them do a skin biopsy, I forced them to do one on me. It came back as DH and if you have DH you are Celiac. Not all celiacs get it but only Celiacs get it. Getting the skin biopsy saved me going through a stomach biopsy.

I decided to dial up Toblerone even tho I have had no problems with their chocolate. Toblerone is put out by Kraft and they assured me as with all their products they will not only list wheat and gluten but they will list if it is made in a facility that may contain any of them.
Just thought I would let everyone know. I told Kraft it was great to have a large company look out for all who have intolerances, allergies and other illnesses that are affected by certain foods. Their aim is to keep up to date and make sure their customers can not only trust them but have foods they can be confident in buying.

Please post their email address so that we can all send them a letter. I certainly hope they will pay the $25. a letter it will cost for the doctor to do this. How dare they insult our intelligence like we don't know what we have or how it affects us.

Thanks for sharing this with us, it is very informative and interesting.

I used to race walk, swim and do kick boxing. It all started back just before the Pernicious Anemia 8 years ago. I have not had the energy since. I so want to get back into it but I feel so sucked down. It is getting slightly better but not a lot but then it has only been two months gluten-free.

Claire, that is awesome. Could you ask him to clone himself and send his clones to Canada. I would like to speak to one sane GI who doesn't roll their eyes at me.

I have not seen anything from that Dr.? on this site.
There are snake oil salesmen born every minute. There is no cure and unless there was undisputed proof on the news etc., everywhere, I do not believe it.Unfortunately, there are tons of con men and quacks out there.

I hate to say this but many companies who manufacture food change their recipes and who knows why, maybe they want it to stay on the shelf for 3 years without spoiling. I have a problem with that anyway.
Many restaurants who do their own can change recipes or may order their supplies from a different company or different agent. This results in these kinds of problems.
Not only that but they have some new turkey at the top who thinks they will create a name for themselves by going with a new brand or recipe. The only thing they usually end up doing is alienating customers they had or ones they would have gotten.
For me it is like a store that constantly changes things around. Stores do that so that you have to wander about and will hopefully by more. All it does for me is make me agitated and I leave. The same thing with a restaurant who elimates something I like and can eat or changes it so I can't have it, I make sure I never go back there.
These places only understand money. If they were told how many people they were alienating by not have a gluten-free menu or keeping what worked before, how much money they were losing maybe they would rethink things.
Susan, you did nothing wrong. You did not buy the food for them from another company, you are not the all powerful who made them change it, you just pointed out something important.

They are very addicting. I first had them at a store down the street, she makes them fresh and uses a separate fryer for them. She does all the stuff with flour in a different fryer. She gave me her recipe. If you don't eat them right away, they can be reheated in the microwave for a few seconds and taste just as good as fresh out of the fryer.

An allergy to gluten is NOT Celiac disease. I was told many years ago that I had a wheat allergy (confirmed by tests). I figured as long as it didn't cause me total adverse effects I could live with it then I would continue. When I got diagnosed with this, it was totally different. My sister was the one who impressed upon me to have the tests and told me about what happened to friends of hers.
Maybe if she makes you go to the hospital, one can hope that someone there knows the difference and can drill it into her head. If there is any medication that she is on to sustain life then you need to do what I did with my mother. My mother is on blood thinners Cumodan (sp?). When she declared that "a little bit won't hurt you." I told her that I will have a little bit if she gives up her cumodan for a week. Because if a little bit won't hurt me then being without her meds won't hurt her. She got it and went totally on board especially when it came to Yule dinner. She told me I would have to make the gravy and dressing so I would not get contaminated.
You could also ask your mother if she would drink poison everyday, because she is asking you to kill yourself. If she still doesn't get it you may have to do tough love and tell her that you thought she loved you but what she is trying to do is contrary to that.

A very slight accidental glutening makes me gain 5 lbs instantly.

It is a lovely letter and good business sense to make sure that people with special dietary concerns are not excluded.

I will not knowingly eat anything that has been produced in a building with wheat produced products. Even if they sterilize the equipment, there could be wheat dust on the lights, rafters etc.
