  1. After re-reading the letter (told ya it's a draft!!), I think it is very important to mention diabetes as a symptom, since that is a very mainstream complication that has been getting lots of attention lately.....

    Any thoughts?

    Karen

I think also mentioning thryoid disease, Graves and Hashimoto's.

Saying something to the effect: Many people who are diagnosed with Graves, Hashimotos, Diabetes, Colitis,Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatique to mention a few may also have Celiac disease.

    Just a thought.

  2. Well how about veggies and this is a great dip to have with it.

    1 cup of mayonaise

    1 cup of sour cream

    chopped up chives

chopped up parsley ( I stick lots of both in it, finely chop them)

Lemon pepper. ( Now I grate the lemon peel, use the zest, freshly ground pepper and squeeze a bit of lemon juice in to taste.)

    McCormicks Bon Apetite' to taste

You can mix this in a blender (it will turn green) or just mix it together it is a great veggie dip and I have dipped rice crackers and taco chips in it also

  3. Sorry Stef...I have not seen your posts, I can't even remember yesterday. However, I have no info on weight loss supplements.

Give it some time. I have had lots of things that don't get answered and that is because if no one knows the answer or has experience with that particular thing, they won't answer.

  4. Mike,

You may be personally gluten-free but working in a restaurant with pasta, you are still in contact with and inhaling gluten. The tired thing is a big time thing I had before being gluten-free. However, I still am quite tired and I know I have been accidently glutened at work etc. But I still have to look at that I have not been gluten-free for very long. I am better in some ways but not in the energy ways. Perhaps you need to not work with pastas or wear a mask and gloves when you do.

  5. Hi Steve,

    Welcome to the board.

As for your question, everyone reacts in a different amount of time, including me to things I have come into contact with. One day at work I came into contact with a very small amount of bread and I got DH instantly. Other times it could take hours or even a day but the last one is pretty rare..

You will get lots of great support and info on this board. I really don't have a problem sticking to gluten-free foods, just I have to clean everything at work. When I go out I question serving staff and people extensively and make them show me the ingredients so I can read them. I guess I have become the Wheat-free/ gluten-free Nazi. I just don't want to go through what I went through before.

  6. However, insurance companies would rather no one have any problems or know about this, that way they don't have to put out the bucks, just sit back and rake in the cash.

It is hard to educate doctors when many in their minds think such things as Celiac, hypoglycemia and other medical issues don't exist and are bunk. First one has to get the doctors to listen that, in itself is a chore.

  7. Just as I do when I am doing the litter box, when I feed my cats I use a vinyl glove and a mask. After I finish I wash my face and hands.

Do not feed cats dog food because dog food does not have the ingredient Turine, which is important for the cats eye sight. If they food does not have Turine (sp?) they can eventually go blind.

  8. Many years ago when I had the the allergy test for eggs, dairy, wheat, environmental things etc. I was found to be allergic to those. I had decided at that point as long as the wheat was not causing me distress I would continue to eat it. Well, now it is no longer the problem of the allergy but that I have Celiac. So being Celiac made me quit where being allergic didn't.

  9. The first time I had vegetables no soy sauce and some curried rice noodles with shrimps it was excellent, with steamed rice.

This time I had something Schezwan noodles or something like

that, except instead of the thick noodles I had rice noodles no soy sauce, it had pork, chicken and shrimp it was good.

Gee Skoki you must live pretty close to me. I think next time I will talk to him about hot and sour soup. They told me anything I wanted that was not deep fried or the ginger chicken or beef, dumplings or the the wheat or egg noodles or anything that is premade. He will sub in the rice noodles if you want.

This is a family restaurant and is up by Lucianos and next door to the Cat House.

  10. I am going to put Bipolar out there in terms that people can understand. Bipolar is the majority many cases genetic. It can miss generations or not. Not everyone in the family has to have it either. To say if you exercise you will be cured of bipolar depression is like saying if you exercise you can cure yourself of Celiac disease also.

When a person is in chemical depression it has gone beyond the point of exercise. If they are depressed and it has not reached the chemical depression then there is a chance for exercise to help.

jnkmky...who reported to you for what? That message was rather cryptic.

  11. The Hi Ball Restaurant in the Stadium shopping center will accomodate those with Celiac, only deep fried items can not be changed.

I am sorely disappointed in the Palliser Hotel in Calgary. I was there for a conference this weekend. They were notified months ago that there would be two Celiacs there and others. They did a great deal to accomodate the diabetics etc. But the other Celiac and I they did manage to bring us out a sandwich on rice bread but all the desserts and breakfast foods there was nothing for us. Their restaurant and lounge had an even sorrier display of food. The only thing we could eat on the menu's was the nachos. A sorry thing to be sure for a large expensive hotel like that. They also did not know how to turn the heat up as we all froze to death for two days.

  12. Talking horses would not bother me but hairy spiders would.

The other night I dreamt I was mad at everyone over environmental pollution, the year was 2046. I got so mad at all the countries for continuing to pollute that I declared it was time for me to die.

  13. I get the white blisters. I think. Do they resemble acne? I used to think they were whiteheads and I'd try to pop them but they were unpoppable -- almost like warts or something. I get them all over my face. I told my dermatologist that I was a Celiac and suggested to him that these might be DH, but he assured me they weren't DH and put me on anti-biotics to clear them up. They've gotten "better" but they haven't totally cleared up.

The redness on the ears sounds like it might be rosacea -- which I also have. Do you notice that the flareups happen when you've just had alcohol or caffiene?

I get the same thing and my dermatologist said the exact same thing. I told him to humor me and do a skin biopsy and it came back positive. Do yours itch and you get a rash with them? Mine only happen when I have been glutened.
