Thank you Shirley, that helped a lot! Stress makes sense I guess...I try not to stress about anything, but I know that it's there just the same and it doesn't help with things happen like today. My doctor's office called today (Saturday,
, lol) and wanted to talk to me (unfortunately I wasn't home and by the time I called them back they were gone)...she said it was nothing urgent, so I'm trying not to worry...I had a whole bunch of tests run so I'm thinking she was calling about the results of the C. Diff test, but I'm also thinking it if was all negative they would have sent a written report like they did with the blood work, lol.
You are the second person to mention accupuncture, and I actually have the name of some one who is supposed to be very good, maybe I'll give that a try too.

Okay, I've been gluten free since the beginning of November and casein free since the middle of December...I'm still having some issues with D, which could be from a lot of things, including what my doctor thinks may be C. Diff or colitis from antibiotic use (she found blood in my stool). I'm also thinking something I'm eating may be adding to the problem and am trying to weed out any other food intolerances.
I understand that it may take a while for my gut to heal...I'm okay with that. I understand we may get or find many other food intolerances...I'm okay with that too, lol. My question to the long time gluten-free folks is, at some point do the new intolerances level off...have you found that it took a while perhaps but now you're now not finding new intolerances?

Wow, that sounds great! I have some almond flour that I bought locally, I'm wondering if that would work just as well! I may have to try this for dinner, lol.
-
Well, from my own personal experience (lots of it unfortunately), the antibiotics themselves may have caused the D, and it just may take a couple of weeks for that to settle down.
Unfortunately I don't have a lot of advice...I've also been having a problem with D for about two months now (since some surgery in January where I had to take some antibiotics). I saw a new doctor on Friday who it may be C. Diff and/or some type of colitis (an inflamation of the colon) brought on by the antibiotic usage which can upset the balance of good and bad bacteria in our gut. She found some blood in my stool so is running some tests for the C. Diff and has referred me to a GI for more testing including a colonoscopy.

There have been a couple of people that I can remember on the boards who had a negative test from Enterolabs, but I'm not sure they're still posting here. If I can find the posts I'll post a link. The Enterolab website says you can be gluten-free for about a year and their test will still find the antibodies. I never went the traditional way of testing because I had been on a low carb diet for a couple of years, so figured the tests wouldn't catch anything anyway, so I went directly to Enterolabs. I didn't submit it to my insurance so don't know if they would have paid, I do, however, think it was worth it for me to know for sure (I tend to rationalize away the good common sense I should have about my diet, so to have something concrete keeps me on the right path).
Okay, here's the recent one I was thinking of:

Glad you are feeling better today, and that you came away from your appointment with something useful! I read the whole post, lol.

I'm going to seen a GI on the 20th for a pre-consult for a colonoscopy. My Internist wants me to tell him about my gluten intolerance. If he turns out to be knowledgeable I'll post back.

I take Zyrtek and do okay with it. I'm also still getting allergy shots--in my 4th year. I was just able to go down to once a week and am anxiously waiting until I can do every other week, lol.

I never cheat on purpose, it's not worth the agony afterward.

Now than Jenvan has responded, I just wanted to add that I'm so happy BamBam is feeling better!

Another happy customer here. I use the shampoo, conditioner, lotion, bar soaps and the liquid castile soap. My mom washed her hands at my house a few weeks ago with the liquid soap and loved it...she even asked me where I got it. I love the bar soaps...before this I used Cetaphil, I like these much better. I use the classic or premium bars. I've tried California Baby, and I like it too, but I think I like the GFS shampoo and conditioner a bit better. You can't beat their customer service...a very pleasant experience.

I'll risk posting, lol. I voted not until I get more information, although probably should have voted NO WAY. I did a quite stupid thing last week while visiting Disneyland. The bruhaha had all just started when I left on my trip. While in Disneyland I noticed McDonald's fries stands. I'm thinking, well the formula hasn't changed and I eat other fast food fries with no problem (stupid, I know)...so I tried some (even more stupid). Several hours later I had the worst pain in my gut which lasted all night. Now, it's possible that something else I ate that day was the culprit (had a turkey leg and ate out at a restaurant), but I won't risk it again and as a matter of fact, won't eat fries out at all now, lol.

For me I think gluten is just one big piece of a puzzle but I'm still missing a couple pieces so not getting the whole picture yet.
Yes! That's how I feel too!

$400 doesn't sound so bad, if I hadn't already spent $400+ to my doc to do testing....I don't know if he even knew what to look for!
Thanks for getting back to me! I guess I'll look them up on the net and see about taking care of it....And I can stay gluten-free?
-Lollie
You're welcome! I feel my $400 was money well spent. I had been on a low carb diet for about 2 years so I doubt the standard blood tests and biopsies would have shown much. I'd been gluten free for a few weeks before I sent for my Enterolab tests. Their website says you can be gluten-free for up to a year I believe.

I think i may have a soy allergy...can anyone give me any more information on soy allergies??? Does anyone here have and allergy to soy?
lemonade
I don't know if it's an allergy--it didn't show up on my allergy tests a couple of years ago--but I think I definitely don't tolerate it...it's one of the things I'm exploring right now. Seems that every time I eat something or drink soymilk I feel really bad.

Will it tell you if your just intolerant-or is it just indicative of celiac.
And is it expensive? I undersood that it is something you do your self? I guess I still have lots of questions!
Lollie
I'd say it's expensive, I got almost all the tests so it cost around $400 with shipping. It definitely told me I was intolerant and since I also bought the gene testing as well, it told me I have one of the main genes associated with Celiac...that was enough for me. That cemented in my mind that I can never eat gluten again without suffering the consequences. The treatment for intolerance is the same as for Celiac in any case. You order the tests from them, they express it out to you. The gene test is done with a swab on the inside of your cheek. The others are done with a stool test which you collect in a special container. They include all the shipping materials to sent it back to them. They run the analysis and a doctor interprets the tests, then they email the results back to you.

No you're not confusing me, lol. All I can say is I HOPE we can be somewhat normal again.

I've been taking probiotics for a couple of years now, but I have to say I've never really noticed that they "do" anything. I've been on so many rounds of antibiotics that I just continually take the good stuff too just to repopulate my gut. I was taking NOW brand, but it didn't state specifically on the label that it was dairy free so I recently switched to Country Life PowerDophilus. The breakdown is:
Lactobacillus rhamnosus 4.2 billion
Lactobacillus acidophilus 3.6 billion
Bifidobacterium lactis (bifidum) 3 billion
Bifidobacterium longum 1.2 billion
Other ingredients include maltodextrin, cellulose (capsule shell), cellulose, magnesium stearate, silica.
It has no yeast, wheat, soy, gluten, milk, salt, sugar, starch, preservatives or artificial color.
So, I'm not sure I feel any difference taking it, but I take it to help my gut. I found them at Whole Foods in the refrigerated section.

I'm going to Disneyland on Sunday and this is what I plan to take to keep in the room:
Trail mix (homemade) that contains dried cranberries, nuts (mixture of salted and unsalted), gluten-free/casein-free chocolate chips, coconut
Lara Bars
Bumble Bars
Peanut Butter
Possibly some tuna

I just wanted to say welcome. I don't have children so can't offer advice in that area, but just wanted to assure you that while it seems overwhelming right now, eventually some of this will become second nature to you.

Can stainless pans retain gluten too or is it just teflon ? I know the teflon pan I used had gluten in it caused I actually tasted the cake that had been cooked in it prior, but is it possible that the stainless cookie sheet I use for my daughter's biscuits retain the gluten and are affecting my cookies ? marcia
I think stainless is okay, they just have to be scrubbed well. I don't think the stainless is porous(sp??) enough to retain the gluten, so if you are cleaning them very well after making the biscuits it should be okay. I don't have a dishwasher so it seems that no matter how hard I scrub my pans I always seem to find some spot on them later, so maybe it would be a good idea to have just one cookie sheet that's dedicated to you.

Gosh, so sorry you had a rough night hope it's better today. How were the antibiotics for the C.Diff? I had taken about a month and a half of antibiotics (all of October and part of November) for Strep, ear infection, sinus infection and you name it, lol. Then in January I had a week of antibiotics for bladder surgery...the D happened around my surgery date. I've been on antibiotics about 20 times in the last 4 years, some for as long as a month at a time. Grrr! I always have "slight" D but this was a change from the normal and didn't seem to be going away.
