Yes, @trents, we need to make people aware that things like anemia and elevated liver enzymes and swollen achy joints and diabetes and hashimoto's thyroiditis and infertility and any of three hundred other symptoms can be indicative of Celiac. Celiac is not always a straight forward disease. Some people suffer for years from various health problems...

@cnazrael89, I agree that you probably have Celiac Disease. Do get checked for vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Be careful with omeprazole. PPI's like omeprazole can cause continuing inflammation. Usually Gerd symptoms are caused by an underproduction of stomach acid. Omeprazole inhibits stomach acid secretions causing poor digestion...

@Hdfrancis1, Thanks for sharing! I'm lactose intolerant, too, and I react to casein as well. Gabapentin also has sodium lauryl sulfate in it! I've had to eliminate sodium laurel sulfate containing items like toothpaste, soaps and shampoos because I have sulfite hypersensitivity. Knowledge is power!

Angular Chelitis
knitty kitty replied to AIW's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You're very welcome. Yes, it is frustrating that doctors don't realize that Celiac Disease can cause other symptoms besides gastrointestinal ones, over three hundred! I take Benfotiamine, a form of thiamine that has been scientifically proven to be helpful in diabetes. I also take Thiamax, a form of thiamine that helps with neurological problems... -
Digestive Enzyme side effects
knitty kitty replied to MattGreen's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Welcome to the forum! Could you give us a better idea of what you are eating? Are you eating out at restaurants and possibly getting cross contaminated? Is your diet heavy on carbohydrates? Have you been checked for vitamin and mineral deficiencies? Celiac Disease damages the small intestine where vitamins and minerals are absorbed... -
Angular Chelitis
knitty kitty replied to AIW's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
@AIW, Angular cheilitis can be caused by deficiencies in Riboflavin Vitamin B2, Pyridoxine B6, Niacin B3, Cobalamine B12, and/or iron. People who have type one or type two diabetes are notoriously low in Thiamine Vitamin B1. People with Hashimoto's are also deficient in Thiamine. My thyroid problems have improved with Thiamine. People... -
Grey hair with celiac disease? I'm only 27.
knitty kitty replied to el1995's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yes, B12 deficiency, copper deficiency, zinc deficiency, and thiamine deficiency can cause grey hair. -
@DeannaM, I believe you will be interested in this case study of two children, one that drank lots of isotonic drinks (like the Gatorade and Pedialyte you are drinking) and one that had a limited diet due to allergies (and nutritional deficiencies as also occurs in Celiac Disease). https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S03877604...

Im back from the doctors heres my issue with gluten
knitty kitty replied to Lindquist's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
@Lindquist, You might feel better taking a B Complex vitamin supplement. Since you are low in other B vitamins, you are probably low in all eight. A B Complex will give you all eight. Additional supplementation with Thiamine Vitamin B 1 can help with the constipation and water retention in your legs and stomach. Thiamine B1 will help your thyroid... -
Doctors are trained to prescribe pharmaceuticals. They get very little training in vitamins and minerals that we need. Doctors think a magic pill will fix everything. You're not deficient in pharmaceuticals. You're deficient in the essential vitamins and minerals our bodies need to heal and repair itself. Do take a B Complex supplement so you will...

Nausea and fatigue almost all day
knitty kitty replied to itarachiu's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
@itarachiu, Eat some carrots cooked until soft. The lemonade is acidic. You are probably feeling it go through your digestive tract, not your spleen or kidney. If you eat something like carrots that will counteract all the pain of the acidic lemonade. -
Im back from the doctors heres my issue with gluten
knitty kitty replied to Lindquist's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
@Lindquist, Blood type tests are different from tests for antibodies against gluten made in Celiac Disease. Blood tests don't tell if you have Celiac Disease. To test for antibodies against gluten, you have to eat gluten for two months in order to have enough antibodies to test. If you can't eat gluten that long, you can get a DNA test... -
Nausea and fatigue almost all day
knitty kitty replied to itarachiu's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Have you read about histamine intolerance? Histamine is released as part of the immune response. Sometimes the mast cells that make and release histamine get out of control. Thiamine helps the mast cells calm down and quit releasing histamine. But you also want to eat a diet that's low in histamine, too. Some foods contain more histamine than... -
DGP positive tests for Celiac in children and young adults are common because of their immature immune systems. A positive is a positive. Your doctor may want to do an endoscopy. Some doctors will make a diagnosis on blood tests alone if they are 10 X normal. Keep us posted on your progress. Best wishes.

Moderate to severe bloatingp
knitty kitty replied to drewbie1776's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I experienced "sailors asthma" and edema before diagnosis. Sailors asthma happens when you don't have enough thiamine Vitamin B1. Retaining water, especially edema (swelling) of the ankles and legs is another symptom of thiamine insufficiency. If you've been eating a high carbohydrate diet, you may not be getting enough thiamine. The... -

knitty kitty replied to itarachiu's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
@itarachiu I like magnesium glycinate because it's easily absorbed. Magnesium citrate is also good. Be careful because too much can cause diarrhea. If that does happen, don't take as much. Thiamine Hydrochloride is good to start with. Benfotiamine helps the digestive tract heal. Here's a link to the Autoimmune Protocol Diet. https... -
How do you get thru the holidays?
knitty kitty replied to Sherma's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
@Sherma, First, be thankful that you have family to spend Thanksgiving with. Second, get a video link to your family. Your kids can help you set it up. Then you can watch from home. You could do sewing projects while you video chat. This could be a way to keep hubby busy while you do other things. Use it for visiting more than once a year.... -

@itarachiu, I'm so glad you found B12 helps! Does taking just the thiamine help when you have anxiety? I'd be interested to know. Do take a B Complex and the thiamine. Just taking one B vitamin can cause an imbalance in the others. B12 needs Folate B9 (methylfolate will help more than folic acid). Folate needs B6 pyridoxine which needs... -
I would recommend getting 100 mg capsules. Start with one capsule with each meal. You can take more or less. Everybody's different so you have to see what works for you. Also take a B Complex (just one with breakfast) and a magnesium supplement because thiamine (benfotiamine) needs all the B vitamins and magnesium to work. You may want to...
