  1. @Jordan Carlson, How are you doing now? Your post slipped by, but I had to let you know you weren't alone. I've had cravings for raw meat my whole life. It's due to being low or deficient B vitamins, specifically Thiamine. Meat is a great source of B vitamins. Cooking meat destroys some of the vitamins, so a craving for raw or rare meat shows...
  2. Using a pressure cooker will break down Lectins. Long cooking times as in using a crock pot will also reduce Lectin content. However, having tried both, going lectin free for a few weeks is like a vacation for my digestive system. I do hope you give the AIP diet a try. I understand that changing ones diet takes a lot of mental readjustment...
  3. Hello, @jadeceoliacuk, Has your son been tested for nutritional deficiencies? Celiac Disease causes malabsorption of essential nutrients which can result in nutritional deficiencies. Supplementing with essential vitamins and minerals is beneficial. I would find a nutritionist more knowledgeable about Celiac and ASD, before taking herbal supplements...
  4. I had ADHD symptoms but taking Thiamine (Benfotiamine and Allithiamine TTFD), magnesium and potassium really helped with symptoms. A diet high in carbohydrates can precipitate Thiamine deficiency symptoms that resemble ADHD. Extra thiamine is needed to convert carbohydrates to energy. Dr. Derrick Lonsdale has an explanation... https:/...
  5. @ABP, "her IgG GLIADIN (DEAMIDATED) AB (IGG) was 22.4" In young children, the DGP IgG tests may be the only positive blood test because the immune system is not mature and doesn't produce tTg IgA until older. Iron deficiency and thiamine deficiency can cause poor tTg IgA production. "her genetic test for celiac was positive." Must have...
  6. @GardeningForHealth, About that study... The scientists were testing how well different gluten detection tests were at detecting gluten in different kinds of food products. The scientists knew the meat had gluten in it already. They "spiked" the samples. "...we selected a set of 32 samples (Table 2) to represent a wide range of grains...
  7. Hello, @StrongerThanCeliac, Not insane. Misdirected, maybe. The digestive enzymes in saliva and the bacteria in the mouth probably digest all the gluten before then. More likely, it takes that long for your histamine level to come down. Histamine is released by mast cells as part of the reaction to gluten. Vitamin C, B12, and Thiamine...
  8. @Auldtwa, I have Celiac, type two diabetes and have had kidney stones. Celiac Disease causes malabsorption of essential nutrients, including the eight essential B vitamins. We cannot make B vitamins in our bodies and must absorb them from foods and supplementation. Correcting nutritional deficiencies caused by malabsorption due to Celiac Disease is...
  9. Y'all may want to get tested for POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) which can cause fainting, and Gastrointestinal Beriberi, which manifests with vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, fever, chills, and low blood pressure. POTS and Gastrointestinal Beriberi are Thiamine Deficiency Disorders. Celiac Disease causes malabsorption which results...
  10. There's different reasons why one may be seronegative. Some Seronegative Celiacs may be genetically encoded to be IgA deficient. But, they may still make IgG antibodies, hence both IgA and IgG antibodies are tested for in the full Celiac Panel of blood tests. Instead of IgA and IgG antibodies, some Seronegative Celiacs may make other types of antibodies...
  11. @jmiller93, Some of us are seronegative and don't test positive on tTg IgA tests. Anemia, diabetes, and Thiamine deficiency can cause false negatives on Celiac panels. Have you been checked for nutritional deficiencies? Iron? Thiamine? Vitamin B12? Vitamin D? Only one Celiac markers is needed to develop the active disease. I agree a...
  12. @HWB, Have you been checked for SIBO? Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth will cause constipation and chemically breath. The best way to get rid of SIBO is to go on a ketogenic/Paleo diet, like the Autoimmune Protocol Diet. It starves out the carbohydrate loving bacteria and allows good bacteria to repopulate the small intestine. The...
  13. @Louise Broughton, Some types of interferon drugs can precipitate a Thiamine deficiency, by destroying thiamine and blocking its absorption. Thiamine deficiency symptoms encompass all the symptoms you listed. Gastrointestinal Beriberi caused by Thiamine deficiency has symptoms of vomiting, bloating, abdominal pain and diarrhea. I've experienced this...
  14. Hi, @Blue Roan, I have Sjogren's Syndrome that made my salivary glands under my jaw swell. I also have dry eyes from Sjogren's. Yes, Sjogren's is yet another fun autoimmune disease that can occur in Celiac Disease. It starts in the salivary glands. Vitamin D deficiency can also make salivary glands swell. I was very deficient in Vitamin D also...
  15. Are you scratching hard enough to leave bruising -- the dark marks? But no rash? And worse with exercise? And no flaking? I had vitamin deficiencies that caused neuropathy - itching, buzzing, tingling sensations, that I would scratch until I left bruising. Many of the B vitamins, if deficient, can cause this itchy feeling without a visible...
  16. @pasqualeb, You may want to request being checked for Vitamin D, Vitamin C, and Thiamine deficiencies. We need extra Thiamine when we are active, especially in hot weather, when we're physically sick, and when we're under emotional stress. Vitamin D deficiency is very common in Celiac Disease. Malabsorption of the eight essential B vitamins...
  17. Yes, I've experienced this! I squatted down to get something off the bottom shelf in the grocery store and could not get back up! The Squat test is used as a diagnostic test for Thiamine deficiency. If you cannot rise unaided to standing position from a squat, you probably have thiamine deficiency. Malabsorption of essential nutrients...
  18. Hello, again. I found this supplement at Amazon that works astoundingly well for pain. The three B vitamins in it, Thiamine B1, Pyridoxine B6, and Cobalamine B12, when taken together relieve pain as well as Nsaids. Not only do I get joint pain (especially in my fingers and can't knit 😿), I get back pain from crushed vertebrae (osteopenia), and th...
  19. I didn't want anyone to think rinsing quinoa would get rid of lectins. Terribly sorry, read your post too fast. Rinsing rice isn't recommended because rinsing rice will dissolve the added vitamins (they look like grains of rice).
  20. Welcome to the forum, @Jean Shifrin Yes, I get achy swelling joints if exposed to gluten. The antigluten antibodies can attack the connective tissue in joints. Here's an interesting article... Isolated polyarthritis revealing celiac disease: A case report https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37434897/ And another... Celiac Disease...
  21. Lectins are broken down by cooking. Using a pressure cooker is recommended for breaking down lectins in beans. Cooking all alternative grains and rice thoroughly should help.
  22. @SoBannaz, You said your skin looks like you've been burned. Is it just red or do you have plaques and scales? Blisters? Does it get worse in the sun?
  23. @Nogluten4thisgirl, It's been my experience these symptoms are related to vitamin deficiencies caused by poor absorption due to intestinal damage and inflammation caused by Celiac Disease. They are inextricably linked. How long have you been taking B12 and Vitamin D supplements? What changes have you seen in your levels? There's eight B vitamins...
  24. Welcome to the forum, @Nogluten4thisgirl! Those symptoms are related to nutritional deficiencies. Because the intestines get damaged in Celiac Disease, they cannot absorb sufficient vitamins and minerals. NCGS doesn't damage the intestines, but it may be a precursor to celiac disease and damage hasn't started yet. There's eight essential...
  25. Welcome to the tribe, @Aussie Celiac! How are you progressing? Are your iron levels getting better?
