ARCHIVED Need Help Figuring Out My Gluten (etc.!) Intolerancesshayesmom replied to ABQscientist's topic in Doctors I agree with Jestgar on this. A naturopath or homeopath may be able to help you more than conventional doctors at this point. If there's one thing the alternative fields "get", it is the role food intolerance plays in health (or disease depending on your perspective). I can tell you what our homeopath recommends to all his patients suffering from everything...

ARCHIVED My 8 Year Old Son...shayesmom replied to mommyof2boys's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs Honestly, if the blood tests are positive....then he does have celiac. There aren't any false positives....just false negatives. So you're doing the right thing by putting him on the diet. The comment your doctor made about "let's hope he doesn't have it" is just the typical response many of us get from doctors who don't know much about the disease...

ARCHIVED Parenting 101 Questions?shayesmom replied to okgrace's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs She may need more fats in her diet. Low fat diets can cause chronic diarrhea in children. You may want to look into adding in more coconut oil, olive oil, etc. in to see if it helps. I would definitely consult with a doctor, nutritionist and if possible, a homeopath/naturopath on this. Hope you find answers soon!

ARCHIVED Introducing Myself, After 4 Years Of Fighting, I Can Now Sayshayesmom replied to Breila's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs Correction, the thread is called Top Five Reasons to get a New Doctor. It can be found here: Open Original Shared Link

ARCHIVED Introducing Myself, After 4 Years Of Fighting, I Can Now Sayshayesmom replied to Breila's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs Your reaction is perfectly normal and you have a right to be angry. There are several things that can come of this, and if you play your cards right, they will all be good. First of all, you have a formal diagnosis that will stand behind you from now on. So you won't have to deal with future doubts about the origin of the problems. No one will be able...

I have to agree with Ursula. Most likely, the pain you are experiencing is coming from another food intolerance. I'd seriously look at nightshades, dairy, eggs and even corn as a culprit. Have you ever had problems with psoriasis? Many times, psoriasis can turn into psoriatic arthritis and cause all sorts of swelling and pain. A friend of mine...

ARCHIVED Vitamin Questionshayesmom replied to OBXMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs It has been my experience that conventional doctors really have no clue about vitamins and supplements. At best, they'll prescribe your son a multi-vitamin (Poly vi-sol with fluoride) and they honestly believe that this is the best out there. I have not personally met a physician who understands vitamins are best if whole-food based and that fluoride isn...

ARCHIVED Need Some Input On Why This Enzyme Is Helping So Muchshayesmom replied to shayesmom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders I think that what insults me the most is that very few of the doctors we saw even bothered to listen to my observations and concerns with my dd. You can almost see them mentally matching up symptoms to a pill...as they try to keep the appointment to under 15 minutes. You get about 3-5 minutes to explain your case. I don't know about everyone else....but...

ARCHIVED Gluten Traces In Food.shayesmom replied to Krystens mummy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs If she's getting rashes and there are confirmed Celiacs in the family, then most likely, she is also celiac. That means that any amount of gluten will harm her and it all needs to be avoided the same way you'd avoid rat poison. You can't really base things off the presence of GI issues. Many celiacs show none at all. The damage is still being done. The...

ARCHIVED Vaccination A Trigger?shayesmom replied to Krystens mummy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs There are a lot of things that can factor in as a "trigger" for Celiac. The last two medical seminars I attended, the doctors did say that vaccination could trigger the disease. When you stimulate the immune system, these things can happen. They have no way of knowing who will and will not react to a vaccine. And even if you avoided all vaccines, some...

ARCHIVED Need Some Input On Why This Enzyme Is Helping So Muchshayesmom replied to shayesmom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders Here's an excerpt I read while looking up PST and autism: "Foods with high phenolic content should exacerbate symptoms since they overtax the available sulphur resources of the body. Anecdotal reports abound about the adverse effects of apples, oranges and other citrus fruits, chocolate (possibly on account of the phenol flavoring vanillin) and other...

ARCHIVED Need Some Input On Why This Enzyme Is Helping So Muchshayesmom replied to shayesmom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders I decided to browse through the last 10 pages or so of the OMG thread and saw your post on copper levels. For what it's worth, it's good to know that your instincts are dead-on. Not many people would bother looking into this as far as you have. So hopefully, you'll be able to get your levels normalized and begin seeing improvement soon! And FYI....you...

ARCHIVED Need Some Input On Why This Enzyme Is Helping So Muchshayesmom replied to shayesmom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders We also have a bunch of supplements. Some are definitely better than others. I've been slowly building my supply of supplements and herbals that I want to have in my medicine cabinet. Serralone was one for pain and inflammation (as opposed to Tylenol). Now, it's in there for many more reasons. I also keep D-Mannose stocked. It is incredible for UTIs...

ARCHIVED Need Some Input On Why This Enzyme Is Helping So Muchshayesmom replied to shayesmom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders Cinnamon, That is awesome news! I'll keep my fingers crossed that it is also working on the thyroid nodules. The product is so bizarre in where it seems to help. I find myself really keeping up with it whereas with others, I tend to fall off and go back on. With this, I always remember to keep with at least one per day. Two seems to be optimum as...

ARCHIVED Needs Ideas On How To Gain Weightshayesmom replied to feedmykids's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs I have no clue what to tell you on a "clean" source of raw cashews. Hopefully, someone on here will know. If not, I'll try looking around. Also, things like homemade hummus with veggies or veggie chips may go over quite well. Here's my recipe for Dairy-free alfredo sauce: 2 cups Pacific organic, free-range chicken broth (or similar) 1 TBSP...

ARCHIVED Needs Ideas On How To Gain Weightshayesmom replied to feedmykids's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs Replacing milk in baked goods with coconut milk would help (you can also add this to smoothies but be careful as to how much you use per day as coconut milk is a natural laxative). Avocado is a good source of fat and some kids like it in guacamole and my niece loves it mashed with banana. I'd use coconut oil to "fry" things in. gluten...

ARCHIVED Need Some Input On Why This Enzyme Is Helping So Muchshayesmom replied to shayesmom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders Unfortunately, that seems to be the theme of things in medicine these days. There are some great doctors out there....but the bad doctors are more common and it takes a major life issue in order to become aware of just how little they know. I think that many of them become crippled by their prescription pad. I'm sure it's nice to be able to write a prescription...

ARCHIVED Please Help,i Am So Confused And Scaredshayesmom replied to elisabet's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs Other food intolerances could cause similar problems. Some kids have trouble processing things high in phenols (artificial flavors, sweeteners and food dyes). There may be an inherent enzyme deficiency at work, a problem converting sulphur to sulfate or even a deficit of sulfate ions in the body (which all are key to how the liver processes daily toxins...

ARCHIVED Need Some Input On Why This Enzyme Is Helping So Muchshayesmom replied to shayesmom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders What's a darn shame is that more doctors in the mainstream just completely blow off the issue of mercury and health problems. If they can't test it via blood...then you're just completely off your rocker. It constantly amazes me that they can completely brush this aside and poo-poo everything you tell them that is going on. Meanwhile, after running...

ARCHIVED Need Some Input On Why This Enzyme Is Helping So Muchshayesmom replied to shayesmom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders That is my train of thinking as well. I look at my celiac aunt and she has absolutely no other food sensitivities. Meanwhile, I look at my mom who isn't a celiac but has mutliple food intolerances and a mouth full of amalgams (and her idiot dentist drilled them all out a few years ago only to replace them with more silver amalgams! ). Now, I won't deny...

ARCHIVED Need Some Input On Why This Enzyme Is Helping So Muchshayesmom replied to shayesmom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders Well, I have a few guesses as well. I am of the mind that even with following a gluten-free/cf/sf/ef diet, that there was still an issue with inflammation in the intestines. Probably a combination of flora imbalances, heavy metals and perhaps parasites. I can say that over the past two weeks off and on the Serralone, I have lost about an inch around my...

ARCHIVED Need Some Input On Why This Enzyme Is Helping So Muchshayesmom replied to shayesmom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders I saw a sight which gave a recipe for making your own "cream". There seemed to be quite a few choices as far as what you can use to make it. And it looked very simple...especially if you have a cream that works for you that you can add it to. Giovanni products have been my favorite but at this point, I'm leaning towards making it with simpler oils. The...

ARCHIVED Need Some Input On Why This Enzyme Is Helping So Muchshayesmom replied to shayesmom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders I had a significant amount of silver amalgams while pregnant with my dd. Also, I had several of them drilled out and replaced with the white ones about 6 months before getting pregnant. Couple that with the Rhogham shot (which I'm now sure contained thimerosal as it was a multi-dose vial), cell phone use....and this really explains a lot about how my dd...

ARCHIVED Need Some Input On Why This Enzyme Is Helping So Muchshayesmom replied to shayesmom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders Rachel, I'm sorry to hear that you reacted to the Serralone. That is a major bummer! I am simply baffled at why it would cause congestion and more inflammation. That is definitely strange. I can relate to the stuffy nose as when I began taking it, I was specifically trying to clear my lungs of that cough-producing mucous. So I did get stuffy...

ARCHIVED Strange Stoolsshayesmom replied to kim26's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs It has been my experience wth my dd that different colored/textured stools are often due to a food allergen or intolerance going on. For my dd, dairy gives yellowish stools, soy and egg give orange stools, gluten gives a clay colored one. Food colorings or artificial sweeteners give the pellet-like stool. (How sad is it that I've recognized what goes with...
