  1. I also follow a gfcfsf diet. And I suspect corn is also an issue. However, I am also noticing a correlation between hormone levels and my psoriasis...and not exactly sure how to address it just yet. That being said, I have recently begun taking a supplement called Serralone. It is a protoelytic enzyme. Originally, I began taking it because of a cough...
  2. For the bladder/kidney issues, we use D-Mannose. It's a supplement made from the compound in cranberries that fights the bacteria that causes UTIs. Generally speaking, you start feeling a difference within 20 minutes. The bladder infection is usually gone in one day (3 doses). You can also take it once a day as a preventative. It comes in a powder form...
  3. I'm sorry to hear about your Dad. I lost mine to cancer less than 3 years ago (he was only 60). It's not a situation to be envied. I have seen message boards where myeloma patients are making that connection. Some have gone gluten-free (and dairy-free) and have seen improvements. Here's a link to one of the threads I've been following (don't ask...
  4. I believe that the pill she is referring to is Glutenzyme. And no, it does not make gluten foods safe for celiacs. It merely helps break the protein down a bit more. You can't take it to prevent gluten damage or reactions. The only pill that may prevent the reaction is still in clinical trials and is not available on the open market. Your sil is...
  5. Oh yes....I have gotten that attitude on a couple of occasions. You will work past this as will the teacher. Just bear in mind that you have to do what is best for your dd. And occasionally, mistakes will be made and there will be a need for you to firmly respond. The teacher may be suffering from some guilt and/or embarassment over the situation (and...
  6. I think we all can relate to wanting a "treat". I recently discovered that I like kombucha teas....and it is a great replacement for carbonated drinks. And the sweet/sour flavor is peculiar and yet I find it addictive. lol! Plus, it's just fermented tea and is full of probiotics. So it's actually very good for you. That is my new "treat". It will...
  7. It may not have been a reaction to gluten, but rather a reaction to the artificial sweetener in the Diet Pepsi. Many people have problems with that and the reaction can be similar to a gluten reaction. I also have found that the regular Pepsi isn't any better. I've noticed that drinking Pepsi will trigger psoriasis in me, especially over the past year...
  8. Today, I think that I would have responded to those people by looking right at them and then turning to the bakery staffer and asking, "Are you aware of any places that offer classes on social etiquette?". LOL! I guess today I'm feeling a bit more passive-aggressive......
  9. OMG, I would have such a difficult time controlling my palpitations the next I saw that teacher!!! There is NO excuse for such rampant stupidity. I would approach her directly and tell her that she is not to give your child any foods that are not provided by you unless she has expressly obtained your permission...for each individual item. I would then...
  10. I think that depending on how my day was going, I may have turned around and said to them, "Yes, you should kill yourself. The world is overrun by idiots who are too ignorant to realize that they are idiots. And they're also too stupid to realize when they're being rude...just to top it all off. One less is a step in the right direction!". LOL! Truly...
  11. Symptoms can definitely change once you go gluten-free. I think that once your body starts to "clear" itself of all the toxins, you begin seeing more defined symptoms of exposure. As for the yellow stools, that is my dd's symptom when she gets exposed to dairy. Eggs and soy give us a reddish/orange stool. Gluten is a yellowish/clay color. It...
  12. Gluten sensitivity is a definite possibility. You do not have to be a celiac in order to have serious adverse reactions to gluten. Few people can properly digest it. My dd also tested negative and since going gluten-free, things have improved dramatically. Her doctors have no problem writing us a note for school considering the positive changes...
  13. AMEN! Brendygirl, I agree that some of your post may have been taken out of context. But I would urge you to re-read them and perhaps you will see why the first one ignited such a firestorm of criticism among the parents here. Your messages are contradictory in nature. You essentially blame the original poster for "reacting instead of responding...
  14. Thanks CarlaB. The trouble is....if there is such a thing as a "super" celiac, my daughter would be one of them. Plus she has multiple food allergies/intolerance to all dairy, eggs and soy as well. So I'm a bit hesitant to go for the low gluten host, even reading that the gluten content is negligible because I do not know what else is in it. Perhaps...
  15. I recently began making phone calls to our church and other celiacs in the area to see how best to approach this (I'm thinking dd is almost 5 and I have to contemplate First Communion). Many churches do not accept/use the low gluten host or anything that doesn't contain the wheat starch. However, you can receive the cup as it is now considered equal to...
  16. We are a dairy/casein-free home here as well. I was a dairy fiend prior to discovering all of my dd's food issues. Before this all came down....I couldn't imagine life without dairy. lol! It is strange how life throws you curve balls that you'd never imagine being able to handle. That being said, I do have some articles on the problems associated...
  17. Have you checked e.b.a.y.? I did a quick yahoo search and saw it as low as $12. I absolutely LOVE that recipe book. And I also am really loving her other books...especially Cooking Free where she takes on multiple food allergies. She does tend to repeat a lot of her recipes from book to book. So you may also want to check those out. You may luck...
  18. I haven't seen them in normal grocery stores. I got mine from our local "tea lady", who owns an herbal tea shop. She carries chia seeds and does have an on-line store. I think I'd try on-line first. If you need a link, PM me. They are relatively inexpensive. I get them for $8 per lb. And a little bit goes a long way.
  19. I have to agree with all of the previous posters on molasses, cast irons skillets, green leafy vegetables. But I have one more thing to offer. Chia seeds. Chia seeds are an incredible source of calcium, protein, fiber and omega 3-6. They are a great nutritional source for athletes and they are versatile. You can use them in smoothies, jams, jellies...
  20. No, you are not being "cursed" by the devil with your autoimmune disorder. You are being BLESSED by God by being given the answer in how to overcome it. If anyone is "cursed", it is your mom because she is not seeing the error of her ways! lol!! Of course, I'm sure it will be difficult to show her the "light" on this one. But ultimately, it's all a matter...
  21. It isn't just a double standard. It shows a glaring insensitivity towards the student as well as her mother. It obviously never crossed the teacher's mind that the student would ONCE AGAIN feel isolated, left out and ignored. And it also never crossed the teacher's mind that this child's mother has gone above and beyond for her daughter. And through that...
  22. Yes, yes, yes! That is precisely what I am speaking of! And yes, I do think that a major part of the issue is the school board and state dept of education who pass down policy with little regard as to what the teachers, students and parents most need. As a separate thread, it would be awesome if parents who have had success in dealing with their school...
  23. LOL!! Yes, I felt the same way! It took several hours before I could sit down and write a rational response because I got so angry reading that post. Worried to Death, I really have to thank you for some of your suggestions. I've had a sit-down with the teacher and principal and at the beginning of the meeting, I stressed that I was not angry or upset...
  24. Okay, no offense to the person who posted this (and please be forewarned that further comments are not directed at you...but at what I'm seeing in my dd's school system), but I have to laugh just a bit at the "school isn't Burger King, where you have it your way". Perhaps not. But last I checked, most teachers don't get extra pay to manage a Dunkin Donuts...
  25. You don't sound paranoid at all. But you do sound like you need to be gluten-free as does your entire family. As far as testing goes...I really don't know what to tell you. Even with all of the symptoms and getting everyone tested, you may never get the diagnosis you seek. So the question really becomes....just how bad off do you need to be before...
