  1. I kind of feel the same way! (Like I'm stalking you, I mean.) -sigh- I just wish that it was easier to figure out WHAT food was causing a certain reaction. All the guesswork is getting to me; just when I think I know what I'm reacting to, my rash flares up even when I'm avoiding whatever I think is causing it. It's really frustrating!...
  2. So, I don't have any official diagnosis (even Enterolab was negative after 8 months gluten-free; wish I'd done it sooner!), and my main symptom before going gluten-free was rashes. In the year or so I've been gluten-free, I haven't felt particularly sensitive to CC; if anything, it just made my hand break out a bit, and since I seem to have other (still...
  3. I couldn't find the article on the web site; can you give me a reference for it? In particular, has this study appeared in the medical literature? I'd like to show it to my son's doctor, but she won't take it seriously unless it has been published somewhere "respectable." Jeanne
  4. There's an extra apostrophe at the end of the link; just delete that and then it works. Jeanne
  5. Just a little while after I posted this, DS had a really gross poop (so much so that he called me to come "investigate" it!) - very loose and paler than usual. Since he never had any GI symptoms ON gluten, I was kind of surprised. Detox, maybe? Jeanne
  6. Okay, we started DS (age 6) on a trial gluten-free diet, and I'm wondering how long I should expect it to take before we notice a difference - if, in fact, gluten is a problem for him. (Brief recap: his only symptoms are anxiety and bed-wetting, and he had a definitely negative TTG test, so the main reason why I suspect that gluten *might* be a problem for...
  7. I get rashes on my hands and arms. Jeanne
  8. Well, PHHHFFFFFTT!!! Actually, that's good news - it gives me something to try giving up to see if it helps. I also just discovered (thanks to the new labelling laws!) that my "contains NO known allergens" acidopholus actually contains dairy. (DOUBLE PHHHFFFFFTT!!!) Maybe getting rid of those two things will clear up the rest of the rash on my hands;...
  9. REALLY??? What's in them that has gluten? I've been taking them for calcium; maybe they're contributing to my remaining symptoms! Jeanne, still ferreting these things out after nearly a year...
  10. I second the recommendation for Earth Balance! It was the only "regular" (i.e., not low-fat) one I could find when I was first looking for dairy-free butter substitutes. Fortunately, it's yummy, and I've been very happy with it. Jeanne
  11. I just glanced at the allergy info on my new bottle of Jarro-Dophilus + FOS (probiotic), and it has changed! Up until now, it always said, "Contains NO common allergen," but the new bottle says, "Contains NO gluten. Contains dairy (milk and whey) and soy." I called the company to ask what changed, and they said that nothing had changed, but they had to...
  12. {{{HUGS!}}} That sounds really stressful. With my son, we used a nipple shield for a few weeks to help him latch on better. The problem with bottle supplementing is that it's a vicious cycle: it's easier for the baby to get milk from the bottle than from the breast, so she never learns how to latch on to the breast. And unfortunately, pumping will never...
  13. www.glutenevolution.com. It's awesome! Jeanne
  14. If I recall correctly (it's been awhile), when I order it on the weekend it shows up around Thursday. certainly less than a week, in any case. Jeanne

    ARCHIVED Eczema

I had exactly that - red, flaky, itchy eyelids for as long as I can remember. It got much better when I went gluten and dairy-free, but didn't get completely better until I changed all my skin care products. I now use only Kiss My Face Extra-Sensitive fragrance-free lotion on my face, and the last thing was to switch my shampoo/conditioner from Suave to...
  16. Well, enjoy sappy nutcase-dom; it's the best part, I think. And the sleep deprivation will eventually get better too! Jeanne
  17. Congratulations!! Get ready for the ride of your life; parenthood is the most incredible adventure. Enjoy every moment; you won't believe how fast he grows! (I distinctly remember looking at my 2-month-old son and thinking, "Who took my newborn and replaced him with this 2-month-old???") Jeanne
  18. That's a good idea - so, what are everyone's favorite brands of cake mix/frosting? Jeanne
  19. I know, and I told him I could make him a great gluten-free cake, but he didn't want to risk it. (Can't say I blame him - we all know how important birthday cake is when you're 6!) I don't want to push him and turn him off to the idea, and I figure there's no harm in waiting another week. Plus, he wants to have some time to do all the yummy baking that...
  20. I think that once we try the diet, IF if becomes clear that it helps him, she'll be supportive. But she has her own set of issues around food, and I think she doesn't want to entertain the possibility that some of HER health issues could be gluten-related, so she'd prefer to stay in denial about the whole thing. That said, I'm going to give it a try...
  21. I'm definitely going to have to look into some of this stuff! I haven't been eating much in the way of sweets or "kid food" myself, so I'll have a whole new learning curve to climb. I do think we'll wait till after his birthday to try it, though; it's only a week away, and we have the added challenge that his grandmother will be in town for awhile...
  22. Yes, I had a wheat allergy test and it was negative too. I'm inclined to agree that gluten probably isn't good for anyone! But after reading Dangerous Grains, I recognized soooo many signs of gluten intolerance in my extended family; that, combined with the fact that I had a positive genetic test, makes me pretty suspicious. Not that it matters for me...
  23. First, a brief history of me: I stopped eating wheat and dairy about a year ago, and went completely gluten-free in October. This was at the suggestion of my acupuncturist, and by the time it occurred to me to pursue a "real" diagnosis, I had been off gluten too long to get a positive test. I hemmed and hawed about doing Enterolab for awhile, and finally...
  24. Careful with Puffins - only the Honey Rice variety are gluten-free. (And I think some have reported CC issues with those.) Jeanne
