  1. I know! I still have some discoloration on my eyelids from when I was young and foolish and didn't know that you weren't supposed to put hydrocortisone cream on them (OOPS!), but I still boggle in amazement when I look in the mirror and see clear skin, and when I realize that I'm NOT rubbing my eyes all day long. I think when I save up some $$, I'm going...
  2. Yeah - what she said! (Seriously, I had exactly the same experience.) Jeanne
  3. I want to know how you make such a yummy-looking pizza without dairy or soy!!! I'm gluten, dairy, and (recently) soy-free, and I'm actually still pretty bummed about losing my soy lattes and most Asian food. But I'm so glad I don't have to give up margaritas! Jeanne
  4. Cool!!!! I just took a look, and I think I'm gonna be spending WAY too much money there... Jeanne
  5. Well, alcohol's not exactly good for me, and I don't drink that much anyway (my dad is a pretty extreme alcoholic, and I've always been VERY careful not to go there), so it's not that big a deal, really. It's just One More Thing I Can't Have . And since I'm still adjusting to being soy-free, PLUS South-Beaching, my food world is starting to feel awfully...
  6. Really? Sounds interesting, but it also sounds like more of a project than I'm likely to take on for as little as I drink it. But geez, with everything I can't eat when we go out, now I can't even order a glass of wine with my gluten/casein/soy-free dinner? Phooey. Jeanne
  7. Aw crap, really??? All wine, most wine, or just a few wines? Jeanne, who thought she could still drink an occasional glass...
  8. I guess I'm just feeling frustrated because I had one of these D incidents yesterday, and I'd at least like to be able to tell people - like my doctor, for instance! - "This is what happens when I accidentally ingest X." But I don't really know whether X is gluten, dairy, or something else. Don't get me wrong - I am NOT trying to see if I can eat gluten...
  9. I dunno whether I want you guys to talk me into this or out of it, but here goes: I don't have any official diagnosis of anything. I've been wheat- and casein-free since my acupuncturist suggested it over a year ago, and completely gluten-free since October. I've just recently realized that soy is problematic as well, and I've been gradually finding...
  10. Nitrogen-fixing bacteria are actually a very important part of the ecosystem. "Nitrogen-fixing" refers to the fact that nitrogen in the air is in the form of an inert gas, and these bacteria have the ability to "fix" it with other atoms to form ammonia and nitrate, which are necessary for plant growth. I don't know off the top of my head whether or not...
  11. FYI, Almond Breeze contains soy. (D'oh!) But Pacific brand almond milk is gluten/dairy/soy-free. Jeanne Oooh, the cashew cheese recipes sound yummy - thanks! Jeanne
  12. Where do you get cashew cheese and coconut oil-based butter? I'm in the process of giving up soy (been gluten-free/CF for over a year now), and I miss my Earth Balance margarine!!! Jeanne
  13. I've been doing the South Beach Diet (modified slightly to be gluten and dairy-free) for about 2 months, and I'm AMAZED at how much it has helped with my carb cravings. I'm a lifelong carb addict, and I thought I'd be going totally insane eating so few carbs, but in fact it's been just the opposite. My cravings are just GONE, and I'm even going from lunch...
  14. For what it's worth, I have hypoglycemic issues as well, and I've been happily doing the South Beach Diet for about 2 months, and have lost 10 pounds so far. (Would love to lose 15 more, but I don't know whether or not that will turn out to be realistic.) It's specifically geared towards helping with blood sugar and cholesterol issues, and since it's fairly...
  15. Oh, goody. Guess I'll pass on the 7th generation, then. Jeanne
  16. Well, I'm pretty sure that when I *eat* soy, it makes my hand break out in a rash after several hours. As far as I know, nothing happens when I just touch it, so maybe it's at least worth trying. Jeanne
  17. Thanks for the links; I'll check those out! I did notice that the 7th generation one is mostly soy. I'm pretty sure I have a soy intolerance (still trying to figure this one out); should I worry about that in a fabric softener? Jeanne
  18. Speaking of detergents, does anyone have any suggestions for non-irritating fabric softeners? I'm almost sure that Bounce causes me some problems, but I live in such a dry climate that I need *something* to control static cling from the dryer. Jeanne
  19. Most non-dairy creamers aren't really non-dairy; they're non-lactose, but they contain casein. The only truly non-dairy one I've found is made by Silk soymilk. I've only had the plain, but it's quite good, and they also make hazelnut and french vanilla. Unfortunately, I'm now coming to realize that I'm intolerant to soy too, so I'm back to drinking...
  20. Sorry to be dense, but what's dumping syndrome? (I can imagine, but is this a formal diagnosis?) Jeanne
  21. Same question here - I thought that quinoa and amaranth were okay! Jeanne
  22. I couldn't identify any specific ingredient in Suave shampoo that sounded like gluten, but the rash on my eyelids cleared up when I switched to Neutrogena. It could easily have been something else besides gluten, I suppose, but something in the Suave was definitely causing me problems. Jeanne
  23. Neutrogena shampoo/conditioner have been working well for me. Jeanne
  24. Yup. I've been doing the South Beach Diet for about 6 weeks now, and I'm down about 9 pounds - yay! Of course I'm having to modify it a bit to be gluten and dairy-free, but since it's fairly light on grains anyway, the gluten-free part has been relatively easy. Dairy, unfortunately, is somewhat trickier; I was substituting soy milk/soy yogurt for awhile...
  25. There are a couple of Annie's salad dressings that are vinegar-free. It's been awhile, so I don't remember exactly, but there's one that's something like lemon-chive that's really quite good. Jeanne
