  1. Not for the yeast-free one; I just mix it up with a mixer and pop it in the oven. I imagine that the yeast mix doesn't *require* a bread maker, but it would make it less work. Jeanne I've never tried Kinnickinik's mix, so I can't say how they compare. But I have tried the Ener-g, and I took one bite and threw the rest in the trash - BLECH...
  2. Don't be too sure! When I compare prices on organic/health food type stuff, I almost always find that for the same product, King Soopers is MOST expensive, Whole Foods is next, and Vitamin Cottage is cheapest. Not at all what I expected before I checked! I WISH it was cheaper at King Soopers so I wouldn't have to go to 2 stores every week, but that seems...
  3. Not entirely premade, but Breads by Anna has mixes that are free of corn, rice and soy as well as dairy, gluten, and even yeast if you want. I get the yeast-free one, and it's surprisingly good. Since it doesn't have to rise, you just mix it up and pop it in the oven for 70 minutes. It's more of a whole-grain flavor than a white bread flavor, but it's...
  4. Well, I've modified the instructions slightly (I cook it slightly longer on a lower temperature, and I add some lecithin in addition to the oil to make it moister), but the texture is really very nice - soft and light and makes a very nice sandwich. But it's definitely best fresh; after 4 or 5 days it gets kind of dry and crumbly. Jeanne
  5. I was off yeast as well as gluten and dairy for several months, and I've been happily eating Anna's yeast-free bread mix. But now it seems that my tolerance for yeast is improving, so I'm wondering if the Anna's mix with yeast would be significantly better than the yeast-free one. Has anyone tried both? I actually really like to convenience of just mixing...
  6. Breads from Anna, at Open Original Shared Link There's one mix that's gluten, dairy, yeast, corn, soy, and rice-free, and when I first tried it, I practially cried with joy that I could actually eat a decent sandwich again!!! There's also banana and pumpkin bread mixes that are free of all that same stuff. I haven't tried the pumpkin, but the...
  7. I also had a nasty rash that sounds similar for many years - but only on my right hand, so I don't think it's DH, since DH is apparently usually symmetric. It has improved dramatically since going gluten-free. After awhile gluten-free, I noticed that it seemed to flare up whenever I had vinegar or alcohol, so I cut those out as well for a few months. After...
  8. (raises hand) That would be me! I finally decided to do Enterolab after about 8 months gluten-free, and everything came back negative - except for the gene test, which showed that I have one celiac gene and one gene for non-celiac gluten-sensitivity. Two of the tests were towards the high end of the negative range, and I *suspect* that they might have been...
  9. Thanks for the email address! My results were emailed to me, but from an email address that didn't accept replies. I managed to get in touch with Phyllis by using the contact form on the web site and asking if there was an email address where I could write to someone. I definitely plan to stay on the gluten-free diet in any case. I never knew I could...
  10. It seems so! Once I got gluten and dairy out of the picture, I noticed that my eczema flared up whenever I had vinegar, so I cut out all yeast-related products for awhile. I tried a little bit maybe once a month, and my reaction got gradually less severe until after about 3 months I didn't seem to react. So I've been gradually adding it back in. I'm still...
  11. I actually just had a really good experence a few days ago at a Red Robin in Boulder, CO. I ordered the rice/veggie/chicken bowl with some modifications (i.e., no crunchy oriental noodles, no teriyaki sauce), and the kitchen manager came out to ask me if certain things were okay, and said she'd cook it herself. Everything was great, no problems! Jeanne
  12. Oooh, one more: I can sleep through the night without having to wake up and pee! Jeanne
  13. The primary positive effect was that nasty eczema of many years' duration went away. But lots of other positives too: - My digestion is better - I didn't even realize it was problematic until it got better! - I feel "lighter" - like there was always a big rock in my stomach that I wasn't aware of, and it went away. - My blood sugar is better regulated...
  14. I'm not Kate, but I'll chime in that I've been able to gradually re-introduce vinegar after about 3 months off all yeast-related foods. Woo-hoo! Jeanne
  15. That's a good idea! Do you have his email address? I can't find it on the Enterolab site, and the "contact us" form has a box that's about 10 x 10 characters, and I can't type anything legible in it. Jeanne
  16. Has anyone had Enterolab testing after 8 or more months gluten-free, and if so, what did you think of the results? I finally decided to do the test after 8 months wheat-free and 4 months completely gluten-free. They came back negative - except for the gene test, which said I have one celiac-specific gene and one gene for non-celiac gluten sensitivity. ...
  17. There was an article from my local (Boulder, CO) paper today about a guy who's participating in some sort of Google contest; his two sons have celiac disease, and if he wins, he's going to donate the $7,000 prize money to the University of Maryland Center for Celiac Research. He needs as many people as possible to put links to his page on their own, so if...
  18. Thanks for the references! That last one was interesting, especially a study where, when the offending substance was reintroduced after 2 years without it, 61% of casein-intolerant children had developed tolerance, whereas 96% of gluten-intolerant children were still gluten-intolerant. That would suggest that casein intolerance is MUCH more likely to subside...
  19. I've been gluten-free and casein-free for awhile. I'm just wondering: if I eventually try adding casein back into my diet, will I definitely be able to tell if it's a problem, or can casein do "silent" damage without symptoms like gluten can? Jeanne
  20. Really? I had this test done after 6 weeks off wheat, and my numbers were 3.8 IGA/3.9 IGG, with "normal" being anything less than 20. I assumed that this was a definitive negative - not too surprising since I had been off wheat for 6 weeks. But I *was* still eating barley and rye at the time, and I've been trying to find out if a test done at that point...
  21. Which Clinique lotions/creams have wheat in them? I love their Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion, and I didn't notice anything in the ingredients that sounded like gluten to me. Did I miss something? Jeanne
  22. Last summer I had a negative blood test for celiac and for some food allergies - but only after I had been wheat- and dairy-free for 6 weeks on the advice of my acupuncturist. After reading here for awhile, it occurred to me to wonder exactly what tests had been done, and if I could glean any information from them at all after 6 weeks off wheat (still eating...
  23. No, sorry - oats are a source of gluten, especially if they're manufactured in the U.S. I also really hated to give up Luna bars - they're such a wonderful snack food! - but they were one of the last things I had to lose to make the rest of my symptoms go away. I've switched to Lara bars; they're made from dried fruit and nuts, and they're remarkably good...
  24. Well, I just got a call from my daughter's day care saying that she threw up, so I guess we're just having a bad run of tummy bugs.
  25. I've been off gluten and dairy for about 6 months now; before that, I never really had any significant GI symptoms (mostly just eczema), although I think maybe I was starting to. Haven't been officially diagnosed with anything; a blood test for celiac was negative after 6 weeks off wheat, which after reading this forum for awhile seems like fairly useless...
