  1. It's been too long since I had Cap'n Crunch to say for sure, but Gorilla Munch is quite tasty! Jeanne
  2. I've never read anything but positive effects for breastfeeding, so I wouldn't worry. (And the statistics say it decreases the risk of him developing celiac, too - so keep it up!) I'm still breastfeeding my 2-1/2 year old, and I've been off gluten for almost a year (WOW - has it really been that long?). I've improved tremendously, so it doesn't seem to...
  3. Well, you could challenge with rye and/or barley. If you can't tolerate those, then does it really matter whether or not you're celiac? Either way, you have to avoid the gluten-containing grains, right? Jeanne
  4. Diet sodas don't have corn syrup, but regular ones do. (And if you didn't ask for diet, chances are you got regular!) Jeanne
  5. Don't know about rum, but Coke is sweetened with corn syrup. Jeanne
  6. Where do you get it? The one that's available at Vitamin Cottage has barley in the ingredients list - which GREATLY disappointed me when I first read it! Jeanne
  7. "Positive but not very high" is still positive! And while there are plenty of false negatives, the consensus is that there are NO false positives on these tests. If you want further testing (e.g., a biopsy), then you should continue eating gluten until the tests are done, but ultimately you should go gluten-free. Good luck, and stick around; there...
  8. It was me - or at least one of them was me. I waited 8 months after going gluten-free to test, and it came back negative. Positive gene test, though, and some of my numbers were high enough in the negative range to make me suspect that they might have been positive if I had done it sooner. I definitely have a sensitivity to gluten and feel a zillion times...
  9. Does anyone know the stats on what percentage of fibromyalgia sufferers have celiac disease or gluten intolerance? My mother-in-law has fibro and EXTREME anxiety issues, so I wonder. But she also has a lot of weirdness around anorexia-type food issues, and my husband doesn't want me to even SUGGEST to her the possibility that there's another major food...
  10. Oh, c'mon, guys, this is actually a valid concern. I'm toying with the idea of having my kindergarten-age son tested, but I have NO idea how I'd get him to go along with the diet since he doesn't have any symptoms that are problematic TO HIM. And I'm not naive enough to think that I can just "put" him on the diet; he's in plenty of situations (school, birthday...
  11. Unfortunately, Luna bars are NOT gluten-free; they're wheat-free, but they contain oats. (And if I remember correctly, last time I checked they specifically said after the ingredients, "Not a gluten-free food.") Lara bars and Clif nectar bars, on the other hand, are gluten-free and quite yummy!
  12. I'm curious about this, because my 5-year-old son is extremely anxious, and I know that MY anxiety level has gone way down since I went gluten-free. My question is: how do you get a child that young to buy into a gluten-free diet without clear physical symptoms? I can see him understanding, "I eat gluten, my tummy hurts," but "I eat gluten, I feel anxious...
  13. It sounds really normal to me; as they get older, their intestinal flora get more mature, and their bowel habits change accordingly. I recall reading that you should only use the suppositories if the baby is in serious discomfort over not being able to poop, because you don't want him to come to rely on them. It's totally within the normal range for a breasfed...
  14. If you're in the mood for a little Peep humor (warning: slightly sadistic!), check out Open Original Shared Link and Open Original Shared Link Jeanne
  15. Well, my acupuncturist was the first person to tell me - on my first visit to her - that I needed to stop eating wheat and dairy (which eventually led to eliminating all gluten as well), so I think she's more in tune with my body than my regular doc! She can't cure celiac - and I have no idea if it would help with thyroid problems - but I do seem to feel...
  16. If I remember correctly, schizophrenia is mentioned in "Dangerous Grains" as being correlated with celiac. Jeanne
  17. My sister gets this symptom as an allergic reaction to yeast. Jeanne
  18. Thanks for all the replies. Now that I've had some time to calm down, I can't decide whether it's really worth going to the doctor. What am I going to say? "I don't have any symptoms now, but I USED to have a rash that looked just like this picture I found on the internet." If *I* were my doctor, I'd ask me what on earth I expected him to do then...
  19. I have a friend visiting who likes to go to Einstein Brothers Bagels for breakfast. I'd like to tag along and get coffee - does anyone know if their coffees are gluten-free? (I used to love the Vanilla Hazelnut there when I was still eating bagels!) If the flavored ones aren't safe, what about the basic Neighborhood Blend? Jeanne
  20. What kind of drugs can cause it? I don't think I was taking anything other than birth control 8 years ago, and haven't taken that for over 6 years now. No other symptoms - and now that I'm gluten-free, no symptoms at all! Jeanne
  21. From the little I've read online, it sounds like a blood test only detects systemic lupus, not discoid (cutaneous) lupus. That has to be diagnosed from a skin biopsy of the lesions, and I no longer have anything to biopsy. (Which is a GOOD thing!) I seriously doubt that I have the systemic type, although I guess a blood test to rule it out wouldn't hurt...
  22. My main symptom - which has dramatically improved on the gluten-free diet - has always been rashes on my face and one hand. I've always assumed it was just eczema - and it definitely isn't DH - so I've just been glad that going gluten-free finally made it go away! But today I came across some pictures of lupus on the internet that look JUST like what I...
  23. I use Jar-o-dophilus, and I'm pretty sure it's Gluten-free Casein-free. Jeanne
  24. Yup, this is what happened to me. I think I should have done Enterolab sooner; I did it after 8 months gluten-free and my results were negative (although high enough in the negative range to wonder if they might have been slightly positive 8 months earlier). However, my gene test was positive for one celiac gene and one non-celiac gluten sensitivity gene...
  25. I just checked my Celestial Seasonings Honey Vanilla Chamomile, and it says "gluten-free" right on the box. Which ones supposedly have gluten in them? Jeanne
