  1. Oh? I just got a bag of sorghum flour from Bob's. I have yet to use it though. Hope it's ok...
  2. As noted by lovegrov, the danger is far worse than malnutrition, which in itself can and almost certainly will lead to all sorts of other diseases/problems. If you do not maintain a gluten-free diet, you'll end up with problems down the line. Being totally gluten-free is not something you can do just when it's convenient. The damage will continue, as it had...
  3. I can't speak from experience on any tests, as I use my improvement in health as proof of gluten intolerance. Many have found diet to be the best and most reliable indicator by far. Also, being 100% gluten-free is really important. Just cutting out "most" isn't good enough if you have a true intolerance. The immune response, and subsequent damage will still...
  4. I always used oatmeal to make meatloaf and meatballs, etc. Works great for hamburgers too. Yeah, I know there's the cross-contamination thing, and maybe some can't eat oats. I've not tried oats since going gluten-free, so I don't know if I'd react to them. I suppose the next thing I'd try is maybe rice, millet, or quinoa. Come to think of it, spinach might...

    ARCHIVED Sleep

All too often, it seems the medical community tries to force the body into acting a certain way rather than helping it obtain a proper balance. Anyway, perhaps you should look into Open Original Shared Link. This is an essential amino acid (the body cannot manufacture it), so it has to come from food. It is apparently what the body uses to produce serotonin...
  6. Now that you mention it, I seem to recall something about the winter time having an effect. I do know that I get serious allergic reactions from GM (genetically modified) corn too. I can eat organic corn with no problems.
  7. I'm not very familiar with the tests, but I know others here are, and you'll surely get some answers on that soon. However, have you tried a gluten-free diet? That's really the best indicator anyway.
  8. I recall tasting liver snaps once. One of the colors was better than the rest, though I don't remember which one I heard about a kid who was exchanging his food with that of the dog. His parents had no idea, until the DOG kept getting sick! Now, if you child starts drinking from the toilet...
  9. Lots of people get mostly negative results from the tests, but the diet speaks for itself. The thing is, unless you are making yourself sick a lot from gluten, the tests can show a false negative. Even with glutenizing yourself it still may not show, and it also depends on the kind of tests too. I never bothered to get any tests, and I don't plan to. My...
  10. I agree 100%. All my life I suffered at the hands of idiot doctors who know nothing but drugs. I stumbled into this whole gluten-free thing and celiac and all that, and I can truly say it's the best thing I ever did for my health. Too bad I didn't know a long time ago, because I could have avoided all the damage to the gut. Anyway, as mentioned, the gluten...
  11. I agree with the comments thus far. Though I'd say it is great news that you don't have celiac disease. Just don't confuse celiac disease with gluten intolerance. You are getting possitive results from a gluten-free diet, right? This can certainly mean that you have the intolerance, but your system has not taken sufficiant damage yet, which again is great...
  12. A warm welcome from myself as well. Hope you recover quickly and completely. I'm finding this site to be a valuable source of information and support. I'm certain you will too.
  13. Hmmm... Actually, looking at the galaxy foods site again, it doesn't say casein-free, but lactose/soy/gluten free etc. The vegan ones are casein-free, buy have soy: Open Original Shared Link Seems it's one or the other. Bummer.
  14. Take another look at the forbidden list. There are some guidelines for maltodextrin (at the bottom), and some starches are also mentioned. Corn itself has no gluten, but again there can be other ingredients. It is generally safe from what I've been reading though.
  15. I haven't yet tried with a gluten-free flour blend yet, but here's what I always did for pie crust: Open Original Shared Link I'm interested in getting feedback on it from anyone who tries it out
  16. In a rush: peanut butter and apple sauce/banana sandwiches (gluten-free bread of course) instant mashed potatoes corn bread/muffins (made beforehand) leftover dinners If you have a bit more time, eggs are tasty. I used to make a large biscuit, and toss in some fresh onion with the eggs until they got translucent and glossy. Then split open the biscuit...
  17. First, if you haven't checked yet, here's a list of safe and unsafe ingredients and foods: https://www.celiac.com/st_main.html?p_catid...-27105010774.16 The modified starches are a bit tricky, as some can contain gluten. I think the ones that are only corn should be safe, but how to be sure there wasn't anything else used during processing is sometimes...
  18. I was just thinking about how when I was little I often had an itchy back. I recall my mother thinking it might be an allergy to nightshades, since she has such an allergy. She also would have a back itch, and kept a back scratcher handy. For me it would come and go, but never any rash or anything, just an itch. It was sorta all over too, so I'd just scratch...
  19. Firstly, from the posts I've erad on this issue, many have had negative test results. It also seems that this happens most of the time if you aren't eating gluten at the time the tests are done. And that you'd have to be eating it for a considerable amount of time before being tested. Many report going gluten-free, and having great improvement whether...
  20. Not to continue off-topic, but... I've heard that a lot of yogurt brands don't have much if any of the acidophilus, which is apparently the thing in yogurt that helps the gut. The ordinay old-fashioned kinds apparently do though. As I recall, that's what is listed on the label as "yogurt cultures" or something. It's been awhile since I had any of the...
  21. Plenty of good comments thus far. I'd only add that most people on this board seem to be saying that their tests for celiac disease were largely/entirely negative. It is not diagnosed very well at all, though more often now than it was. I've also noticed new symptoms since going gluten-free. Many others do to. That seems to be very common. Apparently these...
  22. I see. I have noticed reactions to corn tortilla chips, except for a brand which is certified organic. Those are fine for me, so I started looking for organic corn meal. However, my reactions are not gluten reactions AFAIK. If you determined that it was gluten contamination, that worries me about the corn meal then. I haven't looked, but I suppose there are...
  23. Sealed containers seem like they would do the job. I'd have to guess as long as you don't ever open both at once, or one after the other without washing the counters/table/hands/etc. You actually might get skin reactions. I've seen quite a few posts about having to switch shampoo brands to a gluten-free product, and stuff like makeup too. I don't know...
  24. So we've noticed, I'm sure. Though I'm also sure it has been noticed that I didn't make personal remarks, so no thanks on the continued "back and forth" stuff. OK by me. Though MSG does still effect the decision making process, but let's not get into that again, or someone might get "uppity" or something.
  25. Many report rash-like symptoms. I have the same sort of stuff come and go too. Mostly for me it appears along with fluid retention in my legs and feet. Areas I scratch tend to get way worse and begin to bleed. Then I have to deal with the scabbing Water "bubbles" just under the skin too, where the itchyness seems most intense. That may be what you are...
