  1. If I want a sweetener in something, which is rare anyway, I typically use a bit of fresh fruit like banana, raisins, apple or apple sauce (the natural kind - no added sugar).
  2. Could it have been a grain of rice? I'm not sure what would make me more concerned though - a grain of wheat or a rat dropping. That's a tough call LOL. The way I might look at it is this: in the entire 25 pounds, what are the chances that the handful you used would have the one and only piece of contamination? Due to differences in size and weight...
  3. Right, that's why "treatments" are not "cures". While cures are permanent, treatments have to be maintained for the effects to last. That term "band-aid" applies here. We aren't talking about just ANY hybridization. The new hybrids of wheat weren't producted until more recent times. Even into the late 1800's, wheat varieties were much less diversified...
  4. Hello, and welcome to the board! According to what many here are saying, relief can come in days, weeks, months, or longer. It depends on the severity of the damage, and many other factors which vary greatly from person to person. Some report near full recovery in a short time. For me it has been about a year or more now, and I'm just begining to see...
  5. Well, I'm sure you are aware of how often the results give a false negative. You know your daughter better than anyone here, but she really needs to take this seriously. As much as I loved the wheat products I had been eating, I wish I had known gluten was causing so much of my suffering. All I can suggest is that you could point out how the intolerance...
  6. I'm surprized nobody has yet mentioned dairy free alternatives. You can get non-dairy cheeses, and bunches of other things. That's what I'd suggest until your body has more fully recovered. So you don't have to risk hindering the recovery process, and you don't have to give up as many foods.
  7. Actually, I didn't say that. What I said is that a genetic disorder would require fixing the genes. I also suggested that wheat is the problem, not our bodies. If that's called an environmental disease, so be it. Well, that relies on the theory of evolution. However, the hybridization didn't occur naturally. Man did it, and far more quickly than the theory...
  8. Does the nut allergy include peanuts (they aren't actually nuts)? If so, there is a peanut butter substitute you might like to try. I can eat peanuts so I have not tried it, but others here say it's good: Open Original Shared Link What about casein, lactose, and whey? These are found in lots of gluten-free stuff. I'm guessing you've already been watching...
  9. Ah. Now I see why we aren't getting through to each other on this. According to what I've read, much of the hybridization is far more recent. Apparently like the last 300 years or something has seen the most of it, but it has been sped up over time, so the changes have not been linear. The following is something I found on this board someplace: See...
  10. So far my only reaction to Tinkyada has been "Wow, this is good!" Hope it stays that way...
  11. Oh wow! You can't eat corn?! I sympathize with you. There was a span of time for me awhile ago when I thought I couldn't eat corn, but I found out it was the Genetically Modified corn that I react to. What a relief that was, as I love corn. Right now, I have to be careful to avoid the ones labeled "extra sweet". I don't know if it's GM, but it seems to have...
  12. True to a point. Although I don't want to try and debate the whole "we live longer" thing, a common misconception is that we are living longer today than in generations past. Medical science has skewed the numbers. The fact is, people lived just as long thousands of years ago as today. The difference is (as you correctly noted) that we have lower infant mortality...
  13. Yeah, that's my thought as well. I know that more and more tomatoes are genetically modified these days. I just read a report from 2001 that a GM tomato was designed that could be used to deliver vaccines and antibodies! Yikes!! What are these people thinking? Here's the link: Open Original Shared Link
  14. I think it's no coincidence that thoughts of girl scout cookies are on the brain, as this is that time of year. Samoas...oh boy, those little cookies taste good! More than good actually. Being off of refined sugar, I haven't had anything like that in a long time. Being healthier is better than a good cookie, but yeah I'd love to be able to have such things...
  15. My point is, that the more time goes by, the more diseases man seems to suffer from. The USA is one of the worst in terms of heart disease, cancers, thyroid disease, autism...the list is endless. It goes hand-in-hand with the typical American diet - wheat based!! I am suggesting that the hybrid wheat IS the cause of many so-called "modern" health problems...
  16. I agree with this, though I'd take it a few steps further. As I see it, the grain is the problem. To alter the body's response to gluten is like trying to make the human body tolerate infections of deadly viruses. What I'd consider a "cure" is simply to reintroduce the types of wheat which had been growing before man got his hands on it and screwed it...
  17. Well, I can relate with the yeast and sugar issues. Boy, it is SOOOOOOOOOOO important to get it under control ASAP. I keep wishing I had known then what I know now. I discovered the yeast thing long before the gluten was on my radar. But, two things got me over the yeast foods really quicky: 1) Feeling better for the first time in my life. Having a new...
  18. The stuff that really costs more is the "designer foods". Ordinary things like fresh veggies, fruits, etc are easier to buy. Naturally gluten-free, and better for you anyway. If you make a habit of eating prepackaged stuff or specialty foods, you'll spend way more. Of course, the brand, and where you buy also effect price. The more you can make from scratch...
  19. I'm hoping I am. I only have to cook for myself, and I make everything from scratch. So as long as there aren't hidden ingredients in the margarine or something, then I haven't gotten glutened. If the margarine has some then I'm getting a certain constant amount, which would be aweful of course. I still have some fluid retention which mysteriously came some...
  20. Have you tried putting some baking soda in your sneakers whenever you aren't wearing them? Remove it before putting them on of course. Also, baking soda in your socks to help keep the toes dry. A fresh pair of socks with baking soda while you sleep can help too. One big thing is to make sure the shoes are well designed for maximum air flow. Avoid sneaks with...
  21. Yeah, and to think those same people can't seem to find time for that home decorating project they keep putting off, or the hedge that needs trimming, repainting the kitchen, etc. Seems to me that if one parent stayed home and planted a garden or did home-schooling, they could cut the cost of a second vehicle, daycare for the kids, have time to make...
  22. I agree. It's a sick, discusting disaster. Kids today are sitting around playing video games instead of basketball or hide and seek or roller skating, etc. I always have a hard time finding clothes that fit because everything in the stores is made for fat people. Even when I was in first grade I was eating peanut butter sandwiches with whole wheat bread,...
  23. I'm curious to know why you are putting yourself through the pain to get the biopsy. I mean, it sounds like even if it comes out negative you'd be staying away from gluten anyway, right? Is it just to get an "official diagnosis"? Plus, with the unreliability, a negative wouldn't mean much. I guess I can understand the desire to have some sort of confirmation...
  24. If you haven't already, make sure you are getting enough fiber in your diet. That really helps to fill you up, besides being good for the digestive system. Apples are one example of a good source of soluable fiber. There are plenty of fruits and veggies that can help. I find I am more satisfied if I eat a regular diet of dark green leafy veggies like spinach...
  25. I would add my voice to those whom say it gets easier. It really does. Having to stay away from gluten is not such a horrable prospect. Anymore than staying away from cats if you are allergic to them, or not eating peach pits because they contain arsenic. It probably seems difficult now because we live in a wheat-filled world, and everyone seems bent on consuming...
