  1. A year for olive oil?!? Keeping it in a closed cupboard was what I was doing, and though I typically go through the bottle fairly quickly, the last 1/4 or so I can tell it's not so fresh. A 32 oz bottle may last about 2-3 weeks for me. If I happen to not use it for a few weeks, the rest of the contents is noticeably less than desirable, and I generally have...
  2. ...And for me it traveled! First in my shoulders (or was it the neck?), then into one shoulder blade, slowly progressing over two weeks or so over to the other side, then some ribs, then into my mid-spinal region, then the ribs on the other side...It basically kept traveling like a snake until it got to my legs, the first of which was useless for a month...

    ARCHIVED Iron Deficency

Just remember that you need vitamin C to help absorb iron. It's not enough to just get the iron into your body - you have to be able to assimilate it. If you want an even better source than those bars, check out spinach: Open Original Shared Link Here's a related article on iron and various other nutrients: Open Original Shared Link
  4. There is no single answer. It all depends on what you're making, and personal preferences of course. Anyway, I nearly forgot that this very site has a bunch of recipes too: https://www.celiac.com/st_main.html?p_catid...-37106498700.20
  5. Actually, there's plenty of Gluten-free Casein-free recipes out there, which Google can help locate. Here's some places I have bookmarked: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Of course, there are a number of recipe threads here on the board, so searching the appropriate forum should turn up a bunch of them.
  6. Well, I've been dealing with this exact sort of thing, and I believe I have only now discovered what the cause has been. The pains are going away now thank goodness, once I eliminated the nightshade foods! Apparently, the poison in them is dangerous to everyone, but the levels are typically too low for most to notice! Here's a link to a description of...
  7. Glad you are doing better so quickly. That didn't happen for me at all. Anyway three weeks is hardly enough time for the gluten-free thing to sink in at the school or anyplace else. You'll need to really push them I'd guess. Plus your kids will learn never to eat what they aren't certain is safe. They will get it - especially when accidents like that lunch...
  8. Thanks for the response! You say it's bland - does that mean you tried it? I have been digging for info on this oil, and found there are other brands which are inferior - lighter and less nutritious/flavorful. That would also account for the shorter shelf-life. Olive oils go rancid quickly if not kept out of the light and refrigerated, and I'd tend...
  9. I didn't have any trouble with the Arrowhead Mills stuff I've had, and plan to get more. On the other hand, Bob's Red Mill seemed to pose a problem. I guess nobody ever wants to stick their neck out and say with certainty that the product is 100% guaranteed gluten-free, as someone would eventually sue. It's a lawyer thing. I try not to let it bother me...
  10. I can also relate to your situation. I just found out I can't tolerate nightshade foods like potatoes and tomatoes. At first I thought it might be the rice, but now I'm hopeful that I can continue to eat rice. I have not yet tried though as I'm still recovering from the nightshades Perhaps what happens is the immune system is recovering, but is still...
  11. I've also been extremely tired, but I'm now finding out there have been some things in my food choices which have been causing much of the reactions I've had. My leg weakness eventually worsened to the point where I could not walk at all, and there was a whole LOT of pain, twitching, spasms, etc. A great deal of digestive/intestinal issues as well. But...
  12. Hi everybody. I've read about how macadamia nut oil is supposed to be even better than olive oil, and apparently doesn't spoil as fast. However, I know many Celiacs are allergic to tree nuts. Though I am not currently aware of any such allergy for me, stuff keeps showing up So, I'm hesitant to try anything new these days. I want to boost my nutritional...
  13. I've just recently started having trouble with rice Avoiding it isn't fun, accept for the relief I am now experiencing. I was eating the parboiled rice, so maybe the enriching agent is tainted with gluten or something. Sometimes the rice looks different too, so maybe they don't always get it from the same source. It's Uncle Ben's brand. I will begin...
  14. I read recently that homeopathic stuff is a very dilute solution of the stuff your body is actually allergic to, and herbal stuff is a much stronger solution of things which are supposed to help reduce the reactions more directly, in a similar way to traditional drugs. So those two approaches are like opposites of each other. Apparently, homeopathy is...
  15. I basically adhere to the idea of never eating anything that had eyes. Ugh! I could go for Triscuits The texture of which I haven't really figured a substitute for yet. I'm sure it's possible to get a fairly nice tasting faximile though. For saltines, I guess something light, so maybe tapioca flour or potato flour would be a starting point. I haven...
  16. Yeah, that'll work I think. Apples have soluable fiber to help fill you up too. Always a good time for a nice crispy apple. Oddly, I find peanuts seem to help me sleep better, maybe because of the tryptophane. They do satisfy, but it tends to take more than I think is good for me all at once, so they aren't too good for satisfying the tummy.
  17. Oooops, sorry Bully4You, I got some info mixed up as I've been pouring over so many allergy documents lately. The broccoli and spinach things was salicylates, not lectins. And yeah, Ursula I'm also querying about this stuff.
  18. Ursula, about salicylates, since broccoli and spinach apparently have high amounts, as well as tons of other veggies and fruit, does that mean you can't eat those either? Or have you identified certain types of salicylates as safe for you?
  19. Bully4You, about the lectin sensitivity, I have read up a bit on that, and I was wondering what veggies you mainly eat. While grains, legumes, dairy, and eggs have lectins, apparently things like broccoli, spinach, and tons of other things do too. I guess they aren't all the same type though. At least I hope not.
  20. Are you avoiding corn products, sweeteners, or both? I haven't checked out relish, but the first thing that comes to mind is to make it yourself, and don't use a sweetener, or if you want that maybe use Stevia.
  21. Yeah I'm certain that's true, not only for the stomach (perhaps you meant enzymes), but the rest of the gut. In my case it was both long before, and during my transition to gluten-free. Like so many things, meat had been giving me problems which I didn't pinpoint/notice until the gut was more severely damaged. I suppose one day it may not effect me so...
  22. Welcome from myself as well. I've personally found this site and its members to be most valuable. I guess the joining requirement helps keep this site open, and free for us to use and benefit from. Well worth the price IMHO
  23. I agree, though I'd point out that there is a big difference between animal fat and plant fat, which has been largely overlooked. For instance, if you eat animal fats, you can end up with far less calcium being absorbed. Since dairy is animal based too, the calcium isn't as well derived as the dairy industry has led the consumer to believe. That's what I...
  24. Same here, but at least it's clearing up a bit I think. It was getting better awhile back, then took a nose dive again a few weeks ago From what I've been reading, various organs are all suffering in some ways, partly due to lack of nutrients, and partly due to toxins leaking in from the gut. The more foods I cut out, the better I feel, but the trade...
  25. For me, I noticed I felt worse when I had meat. It even made my skin smell icky for days too. Didn't matter if it was red meat or poultry, though turkey had given less problems. I also would get dark around my eyes, and of course the gut didn't seem to like it either. When I think protein, I think peanuts, beans, spinach, etc. To each his/her own obviously...
