  1. Yep. Throw in more chemicals and artificial junk to make it more addicting too. Add to that the fact that servings of vegetables and fruit keep getting smaller. Americans are both overfed and malnourished. I hope I'm not the only one who notices how the "diet food" industry has expanded at the same time as the "modern day diseases" have proliferated. It...
  2. That may not be too surprising if your system isn't used to it. It takes time for the digestive system to develop the proper enzyme balances and so forth. There are a number of other factors too, but basically I wouldn't recommend switching between raw and cooked all at once. Just like you wouldn't expect to compete in a marathon without proper training for...
  3. Being sensative to yeasts I just use baking powder/soda. No rise time required either Yeah I know, the breads turn out different, but at least I can eat them.
  4. Here's a site for Stevia: Open Original Shared Link I recently read about Xylitol, which is apparently a natural sweetener, and our bodies actually make the stuff too. The catch is that it can cause some reactions in larger amounts. Generally if I need a sweetener I just use fruit. Raisins, dates, apple sauce (w/no added sugar), pineapple, banana...the...
  5. There are so many varieties of rice, so I'd be wondering if the allergy isn't to a specific kind or small set of them, rather than all rices. You might give millet a try. It apparently is quite well tolerated - easy to digest and not usually a problem even to those with allergies to many other things. There's also amaranth, teff, buckwheat, quinoa and...
  6. I read recently that raw food is supposed to be easier to digest because it has more enzymes and stuff. I tend to find that the closer I can get to raw, the better I feel. However, as already pointed out, things like beans and grains don't seem to be good raw. I love peanuts and peanut butter, so protein isn't hard to find in the higher concentrations like...
  7. Glad to know it's going well for you. It does get a whole lot easier too. Believe it or not, I have absolutely no craving for anything with wheat. At first I dreaded the thought of not having wheat stuff, but now it doesn't bother me at all. I know there are plenty of other grains on this globe which do just as well for making breads. It's just that we haven...
  8. Lots of meals can be frozen and reheated without losing too much appeal. Rice/veggie dishes for example. Stuff like pasta probably not though. Tinkyada pasta may hold up better than wheat pasta, but I doubt it would make a good meal reheated like that. Especially if you intend to microwave it. Beans also reheat fine IMO, as does millet and other grains I...
  9. Although I can eat corn, I do find I react too much if it's not organically grown corn. I found out that GMO corn was "accidentally" mixed into the human food supply a few years ago, which is when I first began seeing some reaction. The GMO corn is supposed to be used only as animal feed, because tests showed too many people had allergic reactions to it....
  10. It might be. I much prefer a physics model as a means of explanation. For instance, one might suppose that the temperature inversion combined with the angular momentum of the rotating drum sets up a sympathetic resonance on a hyperdimensional level. As electrical discharges (from static electricity) occur in this region, a rift opens, quickly forming into...
  11. I don't believe there is any "usual" place for DH to occur. This site has articles on it though, so hopefully you can see how the description compares with your symptoms. Click the site index link on the left hand side of the page and follow the links from there. I hope you get the answers you need.
  12. I don't know the answer to your question specifically, but I just had some of those red itchy spots (for the first time that I know of). They are thankfully fading away. I didn't get glutened, so I have no idea what if anything in particular can be blamed. Maybe it's just something that develops slowly inside until it manifests in a rash. I have yet to do...
  13. Well, like I said, I do believe I found the culprit. I'm still recovering though, so maybe that's what you had read. It seems to be taking some time for the toxins to clear out. I can understand that since I was doing so badly for so long. I can feel the improvement day by day. Thanks for the idea of adrenal fatigue though. I will look it up and see if...
  14. I've read guar gum is a suitable replacement for xanthan gum in most cases. It's what I plan to use when I get around to baking again, just because xanthan gum comes from a microbe, which is sorta gross IMHO. Apparently, guar gum gives a more cake-like, spongier texture, as opposed to the bread-like stretchier texture of xanthan. Most recipes suggest using...
  15. Well, I must say all the replies are quite interesting. I notice that the reasons for people choosing not to eat meat tend to be more ethical/philosophical. Being kind to animals and such is fine, and I like the idea of a farm that uses natural methods to raise their animals. I don't really have any such "guilty" feelings or whatever to overcome though...
  16. I agree that the essential amino acids are...well...essential. They can't be synthesized by the body, so we must obtain them from food. Here are the 20 standard amino acids, as described on Open Original Shared Link: Essential Isoleucine Leucine Lysine Methionine Phenylalanine Threonine Tryptophan Valine Arginine* Histidine* *Histidine...
  17. Well, I know it can be pointless to try to convince a meat eater, especially a "meat-loving" meat eater, that there is plenty of protein available in vegetable sources. So I won't attempt that. Though many people (especially Americans) seem to think immediately of meat when they look for a protein source, I can give at least some assurance that it's easy...
  18. Meal plan? You mean they actually try to dictate exactly what the students eat?
  19. Yikes! That to me does sound serious, and I'd say you need to figure this one out fast. I don't know what blood disorders could do this sort of thing, but I'd consider that and maybe something bone marrow related. Don't want to scare you, but really it does sound serious to me. I don't know if your system might be clearing out bad marrow and replacing it...
  20. I think you're on the right track with the deficiencies and nail issues/weak bones. I've heard that several times over the years. And yes gluten can contribute, since the compromised digestive system won't be absorbing all the nutrients you are supposed to derive from what you eat. As for joint pains, I was having VERY serious, truly debilitating pains...
  21. I used to get horrible migraines, and quite frequently too. Thankfully, I did find the culprits, but only after years of suffering. Seems there were a few different contributing factors, but the main thing was a yeast overgrowth. Once I eliminated all sources of yeast and processed sugars, I got nearly complete relief in the following weeks. I also took Caprylic...
  22. As I'm sure others will point out, it is quite common for young children to get a false-negative from tests. I don't know which "official" tests are the most reliable, but you've already gotten an answer from the best test known - the gluten-free diet. I don't suppose you'd be too quick to put your child back on gluten no matter what test results you get...
  23. Well, for the stools, I believe they will be darker than normal if your intestines aren't moving things along properly. The dreams may actually be related to intestinal issues though. There have been a number of times when I'd sleep quite poorly and have disconnected, incoherent dreams if I try to sleep with too much food in my stomach, or when some food...
  24. Prune juice is gluten-free I'm sure, at least if it doesn't have anything added to it.
  25. It took six months before I noticed any changes at all. It's been almost two years gluten-free now, and still I'm struggling with various problems. New sensitivities have been cropping up, but until I figured them out I'd be doing worse. This board and its members can be most helpful. I hope you obtain the answers you need.
