High ttg iga negative biopsy??
Palvyre replied to AS2914's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had a high positive Ttg-IgA and a negative biopsy as well. My doctor gave me a genetic test which came back positive with a High Risk category. He then put me on a 4 month trial gluten-free diet and then reran blood work after that. My symptoms improved and my blood work went to normal. Based on that I was diagnosed with Celiac disease. A year later I had... -
You may have to get a lot more strict. I was extremely sensitive and got extremely sick from cross contamination. A blessing and a curse. I was able to completely eliminate gluten from my diet and my antibodies were < 3 after 4 months. I avoided any processed product not certified gluten free, I didn't eat out at all, I even found a family butcher for...

The good, the bad & the ugly
Palvyre replied to Jojo0202's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thank you. I have worked hard to get here. I am extremely strict, I don't eat out and I avoid anything that is either not naturally gluten free or not certified gluten free. I don't take chances. I had a 2 year pity party where I gained a bunch of weight, over 60 lbs. Snacked on a bunch of cheese, used my Celiac and Osteoporosis as an excuse. I moved past... -
The good, the bad & the ugly
Palvyre replied to Jojo0202's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I didn't deliberately not follow the diet, it took me over 20 years to find out what was wrong with me. By the time I figured it out I was very sick. I also have NAFLD and osteoporosis. I developed severe lactose intolerance and issues with all kinds of fruit sugars causing bloating and pain. I had severe GERD, IBS, balance issues, migraine headaches, vitamin... -
Biopsy Came Back Negative

Did you have a positive blood test? -
testing was negative. can this change?
Palvyre replied to kim5798's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had symptoms from my early 20s on. I was tested in my late 20s due to symptoms consistent with Celiac and the test was negative. I was tested again at age 38 because I had gotten extremely ill, that time it was a very high positive. I had developed osteoporosis by that point though. -
I had a negative biopsy, but was able to get a diagnosis of Celiac. I had positive blood work across the board with a ttg-IgA of 76.9, normal being < 15. When the biopsy came back negative I was sent for a genetic test. The genetic test came back positive with DQ2. 5 which labeled me "high risk". So I was put on a trial gluten free diet. My antibodies...

ARCHIVED Celiac disease and osteoporosis
Palvyre replied to Palvyre's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks for the information. I can't handle magnesium citrate, it acts like a laxative. I used to have all kinds of muscle issues when I was first diagnosed. Now, 3 years gluten-free, I don't have those issues anymore. Fortunately, I don't have energy issues, unless I get glutened. That knocks me out. -
ARCHIVED Celiac disease and osteoporosis
Palvyre replied to Palvyre's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks for the feedback. I don't eat out at all or take risks with food. My sensitivity went nuclear after being gluten-free for about 6-8 weeks. As a result I can't eat out at all, I tried a couple times early on and it didn't work. As a result now after 3 years gluten-free I am symptom free. I still have the limitations with lactose intolerance, fructose... -
ARCHIVED Celiac disease and osteoporosis
Palvyre replied to Palvyre's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am moderately overweight, though I exercise regularly. I have a hefty appetite and never seem to feel full. I take vitamin D supplements for low vitamin D. I am hoping that my dexa scan this year will show an improvement. I eat quite a bit of cheese (which is why I am overweight), but I crave it. I am completely lactose intolerant and have fructose malabsorption... -

Interesting on the height thing. I am a 40 year old male. I've lost 2" in height since I was 18. Hadn't connected that to this. -

Was anyone else diagnosed with osteoporosis shortly after a Celiac diagnosis? Were you able to reverse the bone loss? I was diagnosed at age 38. Almost 3 years gluten-free now. -
ARCHIVED Positive blood test and negative biopsy. Feeling confused!
Palvyre replied to Carmen30's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was a little bitter, felt like I lost out on my 20's. I am all good now though. My daughter started having issues and so we had her tested. Turns out she has it as well and she was 7 at the time of her diagnosis. We are a year past that and she is fully recovered as well and healthy. I am kind of sad that I passed this on to her, but because of her early... -
ARCHIVED Positive blood test and negative biopsy. Feeling confused!
Palvyre replied to Carmen30's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had a similar experience and I ended up having Celiac with severe malabsorption issues. I had a 20 year history of chronic diahrrea and acid reflux. It progressed to constant nausea, upper abdominal pain, balance issues, and foggy mind. My doctor put me through a ton of tests. My entire Celiac blood panel was positive. My ttg-IgA was 76.9 with normal being... -
ARCHIVED Negative Biopsy - scared!
Palvyre replied to Missingbeer's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had a negative biopsy and was still diagnosed with Celiac. My GI ran a bunch of tests looking for the cause of my 15+ years of diarrhea and the only thing that came back positive was the entire Celiac panel. All very high. So he performed an endoscopy with biopsy. The biopsy was negative. So he ordered a genetic test. When that came back as "high risk"...- 16 replies

ARCHIVED Confused and undiagnosed

I have Celiac disease and I have this type of pain from fructose. I don't absorb it well and it ferments in my small bowel causing intense pain. Gas-X helps stop the pain episode in about 10-15 minutes. Avoiding apples and peaches (the worst offenders) and limiting fructose to 10g or less in any given sitting has stopped these episodes from occurring. Good... -
ARCHIVED Could celiac really be making me feel this bad?

That can all be Celiac related. I would also ask for a Lyme disease test. -

12 years before diagnosis I was having chronic diarrhea, acid reflux, and bouts of severe abdominal pain. I was sent to a GI specialist and they ran a bunch of tests, including a Celiac blood panel that came back negative. I was also told I had IBS and GERD and sent on my way. Fast forward 12 years and I was having the same issues, but worse. I was now also...- 15 replies

ARCHIVED Positive blood test, negative biopsy, positive gene test. Do I have celiac?
Palvyre replied to Aqsa's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Typically a trial gluten-free diet would be recommended at this point. Then have a repeat blood test in 2-3 months. If your blood results and symptoms improve then that will confirm your diagnosis. -
Anal itching is a common symptom of malabsorption disorders. I had this for years. I was diagnosed with Celiac 2 years ago now and lactose intolerance. Eliminating those two has resolved the issue. If you are still having a problem after going gluten-free, I would try an elimination diet. The most likely candidate in a newly diagnosed celiac disease patient...
