ARCHIVED Help! Still Suffering From Hives After 4 Weeks!
teebs in WV replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Kim, What you describe sounds an awful lot like DH, but who knows?? This disease is so tricky........ I, too, suffer from breakouts and itchiness - and it sounds just like you describe. It is an itch so intense, you can't even get to it. I have scratched myself so hard at times, I have ended up with huge bruises (that look like I had been beaten!)... -
ARCHIVED Severe Migaraine
teebs in WV replied to tummietroubles's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have found that most of the lotions from Bath & Body Works contain oats, so I avoid them all. I do use their handsoap, body spray, and some body washes (gels only - every cream body wash that I have checked out has oats). -
ARCHIVED Mahatma Rice?
teebs in WV posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Someone on this board mentioned before that Mahatma Saffron rice is gluten-free. I searched their website and could not find this referenced anywhere. So, I sent them an e-mail asking what products were gluten-free. I received a packet in the mail from them yesterday thanking me for inquiring about their products, and that they hoped that the packet they... -
This was how I was diagnosed with celiac - by the DH. I had it on my arms, legs, stomach and lower back....fortunately never on my face. On one hand, it is a terrible thing to endure, but on the other, it keeps me from cheating.

ARCHIVED Roasted Nuts
teebs in WV replied to danikali's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Not all modified food starch contains gluten - but if it doesn't specify, then assume it is not safe. I have read that most of the times in the US if it says modified food starch, it is more than likely derived from corn. But........if it doesn't say specifically, and I cannot verify it, then I don't eat it. Not all modified food starch contains... -
I read somewhere (not sure where) that there are some people who always have DH symptoms - even after going gluten free. But, I think this is rare.

Hi Laura - don't think I have had an opportunity to say "yeah State!" What a game, huh? Anyway, I have not traveled anywhere (except State College) since being dxd. But, my sister and I have been talking aobut going to Williamsburg this summer, so I am very interested to hear how your trip goes. Hope you have fun!

ARCHIVED Dapsone - Miscellaneous Questions
teebs in WV replied to teebs in WV's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Unfortunately, my appointment was with my general practitioner and since he didn't prescribe the dapsone, he wouldn't do my bloodwork. Needless to say, I am extremely frustrated. I left his office very upset. I am calling my dermatologist Monday morning insisting that he order the bloodwork. I have had very low red blood counts for years - before being... -
ARCHIVED A Shout Out For Triumph Dining Cards
teebs in WV replied to elonwy's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I just received the restaurant guide and it is great! Sure, you can get most of the info that is in it by researching the internet, but it is nice to have so much compiled in one handy book. I also got the dining cards, but have not used them yet. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Pizza Crust Questions
teebs in WV replied to danemom3's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My first attempt at gluten-free pizza was a disaster - it was GROSS! I used a mix (can't remember which brand) and used a cookie sheet. I went ahead and made a whole pizza the normal way, and then cut it into square slices and froze it. It tasted even worse after I thawed the frozen slices and reheated. I was about ready to give up and tried a frozen... -
ARCHIVED Wine
teebs in WV replied to Susan123's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Before going on the gluten-free diet, I was a beer drinker - I loved beer!! So once I started the gluten-free diet, I switched to wine, and didn't have any issues at first. But after a couple of months, I started getting intense itching (very similar to the itching I was having during one of my DH outbreaks). I finally figured out that it may be the wine... -
ARCHIVED Tositos Corn Chip
teebs in WV replied to Moongirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have not had any issues with Tostitos Corn Tortilla Chips, or the Tostitos Gold. I love them and eat them quite often. For the first month after my diagnosis, I pretty much lived on Tostitos Chips and Tostitos Salsa! ALWAYS check when you try a new brand - don't trust that there is no gluten, just because they are called 'corn' chips. -

Thank you both for your responses. I have an appointment with my general practitioner on Monday afternoon and will talk to him about doing some bloodwork. Thanks again, -
ARCHIVED Obsession Perfume (by Calvin Klein)
teebs in WV replied to teebs in WV's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
When I was out shopping yesterday, I looked at a box of Obsession by Calvin Klein, and it did list the ingredients. There was nothing listed that looked like it should cause any gluten reactions. -

ARCHIVED Obsession Perfume (by Calvin Klein)
teebs in WV replied to teebs in WV's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My problem is, I have not been able to find a phone # to call. I have searched online and cannot find anything, and there isn't anything on the bottle that I have. Next time I am at the mall, I will check the box that the bottles come in and see if I can find a phone #. There are sooooooo many things that I keep finding that have gluten! Just today... -

Jessica, It is so funny that you mentioned Blue Diamond Almond Thins - my brother who lives in Annapolis brought a box to me at Christmas. There aren't very many options for me locally since I live in such a rural area. I loved them! They are really good with Kraft Old English Cheese Spread! My brother is so sweet - he brought a bag of gluten-free... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else Do This At The Grocery Store?
teebs in WV replied to voyager's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm pretty new to all this too - just since October. There is also another resource that I just bought - The CSA Gluten-Free Product Listing. It is almost 400 pages and is around $30. I ordered it from: Open Original Shared Link They also have other resources - a new patient packet that is free. Anyone else buy this book or utilize this website... -
ARCHIVED Seeing Small Improvements!
teebs in WV replied to dlp252's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is a really encouraging thread to read! My biggest issue has been itching - more so than GI issues. I was diagnosed with dh before celiac disease. My itching initially got better, but the past week has been horrific. I have tried so hard to be careful about cross-contamination. I just read this morning that iodine, including iodized salt, can irritate... -
ARCHIVED Namaste Foods
teebs in WV replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for the tip! I just ordered their choc. cake mix, van. cake mix, pizza crust mix, and waffle/pancake mix. I was on the verge of not trying any more gluten-free baked goods as I have not found any that I like (I know - I am VERY picky). I had decided I would rather go without. But, the other day I tried a frozen pizza crust that I ordered from gluten... -
ARCHIVED New 2006 Labeling
teebs in WV replied to grantschoep's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Last night my local 11 o'clock news ran a story on the new labeling laws, although I think that the story was an AP news piece, and not really local. Anyway, the focus of the piece was on food allergies, and of course mentioned nothing about other food related disorders. I know that I have seen posts before on here referring to the future requirements for... -
As I mentioned in a previous post, I have been on Dapsone since October (25 mg twice a day). It has helped tremendously. However, when I get glutened, I get a breakout within 24 hours. Not as bad as before going on Dapsone, but still extremely itchy and ugly none the less. I have a question for the Dapsone veterans - have you ever increased your dosage on...

ARCHIVED Obsession Perfume (by Calvin Klein)
teebs in WV posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have been searching, and have not been successful finding out the ingredients of Calvin Klein's perfume "Obsession". It is all I have worn for the last 5 years, but since being dx I have not been wearing it, and miss the smell. Has anyone had any luck finding out if it is gluten-free? I really appreciate any feedback!
