  1. Stefi, Thanks! I didn't want to make these if they were the cake-like texture. I have never liked choc. chip cookies like that. I like the chewy-type (Nestle Tollhouse recipe). I know not to get my hopes up comparing these to the gluten-filled cookies, but I AM excited!
  2. My understanding is that everyone is different, but I was on a gluten-free diet for about 3 weeks when I had my endoscopy and biopsy. I was not very knowledgeable about cross-contamination, so I don't know how much accidental gluten that I ingested during that time. Anyway, the damage from this disease was still apparent. I think it can take months and...
  3. My 12 year old son has created an account as he is doing his science fair project on celiac disease. He was going to post on this forum and seek input from members on this disease. Each time he tries to create a new post he gets an error message that he is not logged in (but he is). I vaguely recall when I created my new account that I had to verify through...
  4. The GI that did my endoscopy: Mark Stechschulte, MD Ohio Gatroenterology Group, Inc. From their letterhead, I see that they have 3 offices in Columbus. Here are the phone #s: 614-457-1213 614-221-8355 614-864-1087 I saw him at Riverside Hospital. After he got the results of my biopsy, he sent me a formal letter explaining the results, as...
  5. I just pre-ordered this from Barnes & Noble. I don't know if Amazon offers this as well (I always order from B&N).
  6. For those of you who have made these cookies, would you mind describing the texture to me? Were they chewy or more cake-like? Thanks!
  7. BayBreeze: Cranberry Juice Pineapple Juice Vodka It is funny you posted this new topic. We were just looking in our "Mr. Boston" bartender guide looking for a drink that I can have made from dark rum. We went to the Dominican Republic in August and brought back a couple of bottles of dark rum. I have been abstaining for a couple of weeks, but...
  8. Hi Debbie. I literally live just across the Ohio River in WV. (I am right across the river from Marietta.) So when I moved, I only moved about a mile, so it wasn't really a relocation. I also have DH - I wouldn't even have known that I also had celiac disease if I hadn't got DH. My derm is who diagnosed me. My GP was in denial even after the derm...
  9. I have been reading this post all along and chose not to participate until last night. My participation is strictly as an observer. Here is what I see: 1) The first post and the title invites comments/defense from people on this forum that are looking for doctors. Go back to the beginning and read the first few posts. If the first 3 sentences had...
  10. I guess the title of this post is misleading. I think the title is why so many people who are not "doctor bashers" are responding. The title and the first post are clearly asking people on this forum why they are looking for doctors. It is making people defensive - just like those who are wanting to bash are feeling defensive. If people want to look for...
  11. My celiac dx was done at Riverside - they have a GREAT endoscopy department. I will dig out my info and post it on here for you. I felt like a queen (well, as much as one can when being poked and prodded!). Seriously though, I felt like I was at a spa - not a hospital.
  12. Hey guys - I'm not in Ohio, but just across the river. I was born and raised in Ohio and moved to WV in 1995. My celiac dx was done at Riverside in Columbus - your neck of the woods casnco!
  13. I am not interpreting this to mean that they don't take it seriously. I also don't think they are saying anything wrong. Isn't that how our disease works? Over time, it eventually sneaks up on us until eventually we are soooooooo sick. I could see where the wording could leave people thinking that this is not that serious of a disease, but I really don...
  14. Lisa - your post just gave me a great idea! My great aunt had a recipe for 'ranch bean casserole' that my whole family loves. My mom makes it for every holiday, and for Thanksgiving and Christmas I had to pass because we couldn't find any pork & beans that I could confirm were gluten-free. Now I will just tell her we should use the beans I used for...
  15. I signed up for the google alerts on Celiac Disease. I got an alert today to an article about a new website devoted to celiac disease. Here's the link: Open Original Shared Link
  16. Yum-yum! I just finished eating baked beans and wieners! I used a can of Bush's Great Northern Beans (I mentioned navy beans earlier - that was a goof), added ketchup, dried onions, and cut up oscar mayer hot dogs. They are soooooooooo good!
  17. Yes - I am avoiding alcohol (she types with very shaky hands!!! ) Before dx I drank at least a beer every night when I got home from work. As soon as my derm mentioned that he thought I had DH and I should avoid gluten (before biopsy dx) I quit drinking beer. I'm going to be honest - the beer is what I miss the most from my gluten-infested past! I switched...
  18. Peggy, Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm about to go nuts over this itching. I have been on dapsone since end of October which has helped so much. But this newest itch is different than what I had from my DH outbreaks. There really isn't any rash until I start scratching and then it looks almost like hives. A couple of weeks ago I thought maybe...
  19. For those of you who have had DH for years, and been on dapsone.....have you ever had other skin rashes after the worst of the DH cleared up? I know that it can take a few months to get it all out of your system and for the itching to go away completely, but I have been getting large welts for the past few days. Just wondering if this is typical or if maybe...
  20. I've been dying for some home-made "beanie weenies" - regular old baked beans (such as Campbells Pork & Beans), doctored up with some ketchup, onions, and brown sugar and hot dogs. I haven't been able to find a gluten-free pork & beans so I bought a can of Bush's Navy Beans that I was going to try and doctor up. I haven't done it yet - but when...
  21. It's funny that you guys are talking about this now. I was thinking the same thing today. I was in one of those moods where I just felt tired from trying to explain it. I wondered if it wouldn't be easier if I just told people it was an allergy. I think you are right - people would take it more seriously and understand the severity.
  22. Judy, You crack me up! I'm really tired, had a long day, and reading your posts made my day!
  23. Hi Jennifer. My liver enzymes have been high for about 4 years. I chose to bury my head in the sand and ignore it, even though my doctor kept bugging me about getting more tests. Finally, after I broke out with dermatitis herpetiformis, and couldn't stand it anymore, I decided to have more tests performed. My doc did an ultrasound and found nothing, followed...
  24. Hi Janie. Gold Bond Medicated Lotion - Extra Strength - seems to help soothe the itching. It contains menthol and from what I can tell by reading the label, it appears to be safe. But, I have not confirmed through the manufcaturer if it is safe or not.
  25. Thank you! See - I just did it myself! Now I feel really stupid! I guess I need to practice what I preach. I should have specified that Cocoa Pebbles are gluten free in the US (actually, I didn't know that they weren't in Canada).
