  1. Tiffany, Thanks for the information. I have been at this a year and this is the first time that anyone has suggested that a 'gluten-free' label should still be investigated. I have personally encountered products in the "gluten-free" section of the health food store that were merely wheat-free, but I have never even thought about questioning that. ...
  2. Thanks Linda! Can't wait to try them. Tracy
  3. Lays products have always been a mainstay for me - as long as an item was on their gluten-free list, I ate it. Sometimes when traveling that would be the only thing I could find at a convenience store, airport, etc. But then I recently checked their website and saw the disclaimer that although they have many products that are naturally gluten-free,...
  4. Patti, Thanks for your insight. That's kind of what I figured, but after a year of this, I am still questioning things that I never even thought of before. Thanks, Tracy
  5. Linda, So sorry your cupcakes went kerplunk. I like the idea of disguising them - I was thinking maybe something Halloween related. Maybe like dirt pudding? Put a little chocolate pudding on top of each one and maybe a gummy worm (if you can find a gluten-free one of course)..... Are you willing to share the recipes for the breadsticks and tomato...
  6. Just curious - why is the grill safe after heating it up, but pots, pans, etc are not? I assume because of scratches in the pots, pans? Well, the grate on my grill is pretty scratched. Opinions?
  7. So far, I have completely put my trust in Hershey's products. Not sure if that is smart, but that is the choice I have made for myselft. But Mars is now off of my personal safe list......which i hate!
  8. I realize now that they are not safe. There was a comment in this thread that they were, so I thought I would advise. I always read the labels - else I wouldn't have noticed the malted barley. I don't think I will eat Snickers any more either - or anything manufactured by Mars for that matter - after reading their labeling policy. It is good that...
  9. I thought I would update what I found. I bought a regular size Milky Way bar from a vending machine, assuming it was safe. I was about ready to unwrap it, and decided I should double check that it was ok. On the label, jumping out at me were the words "barley malt". Beware - I purchased this in the US (West Virginia) - no idea where it was produced...
  10. and thank the good lord above!!!
  11. Jules, I hope that all goes well for you. I am anxious to hear your experience as I think my GI is ready to send me to a surgeon for a liver biopsy (among other things). Take care, Tracy
  12. Hi Kathy. Doesn't sound like DH to me, but many celiacs on this board appear to have various skin issues. I have DH but I also have other skin issues. DH is visible blisters - itchy, oozy, itchy, gross, and itchy (did I mention itchy?).
  13. Thanks! I will try these sometime soon. Pumpkin cookies were always one of my faves. Tracy
  14. To clarify my post, I do not use plastic containers that have been 'melted' or any that have other nasty stains. Not just because of fear of gluten contamination, but what about any other types of food particles that may be hanging around? I would think that those things would make you sick also (i.e. bacteria). I guess my point was, and I am sure I...
  15. Plastic containers, pots and pans, etc., are not things that I worry about in my home. I am a very thorough when hand-washing dishes, and I also use my dishwasher most of the time. I don't think that microscopic gluten particles are hanging around and will cause a reaction. If that were the case, one would need to replace your entire kitchen counter, consider...
  16. I work at a manufacturing plant that is in a remote location, so the only food options are pizza and subs. I am used to it - the food always sucked anyway! The stuff I bring from home is much better
  17. Jenny - what is cinnamon/brown sugar cream cheese swirls? Sounds yummy - I just don't know what that is.....
  18. Angie, Thanks for posting! I will patiently wait for the Ore Ida list
  19. Whew - I was afraid I missed something somewhere. You are saying that it causes you problems - not that it has gluten-containing ingredients. I have major skin problems and I use Tide and Bounce. I used to use Sun and Bounce, and eliminated those for a while and still had problems. (I eleminated everything I could think of....) I finally found the...
  20. I think it is Ferro Sequel (sp?) It is time-released and I think you can get it OTC....but I could be wrong.
  21. What is the problem with Tide and Bounce?
  22. Thanks for posting. I contacted them before and got the same response. Personally, I do not feel comfortable eating their foods because they state 'wheat proteins', but do not comment on gluten specifically. Does their statement mean that if their is a protein from rye or barley they may not list it? This is one thing that I am really not clear on...
  23. I actually had a doctor give me a prescription for iron before. When I handed it to the pharmacist he walked me over to the aisle of supplements and pulled a regular OTC iron supplement off the shelf. I think this is the same thing as when a doc gives a prescription for Ibuprofen 800mg - same as taking 4 regular ones according to the pharmacist. I...

    ARCHIVED Eating Out

Nice post - thanks for sharing.
  25. I used to grind my teeth every night, but not as much lately. I was diagnosed with TMJ about 15 years ago, after ending up in the emergency room with my lower jaw locked open. It was a nightmare because the ER staff were doing all the wrong things to unlock it and actually made it worse. They sent me on to an oral surgeon in a neighboring town (yes - that...
