  1. I'm wondering if this might be a problem for me as my stomach is constantly sore, especially after fruit. Just wondering what other people'e experiences/ symptoms are, how they were diagnosed etc If this is a problem for me, does it mean I have to avoid fructose altogether like gluten? Is it something you get better from? What do you eat instead of fruit...
  2. I do wash my rice. I find I can stomach it better once it's been washed. No idea why, although a coeliac colleague of mine did suggest it was something to do with rinsing excess starch off
  3. Hmm. I need space, no questions from DH along the lines of 'are you feeling ratty?' (that makes me blow my top!), sleep, DH to take up the reins and do everything for a short while so that I can calm down, a change of scenery helps and if all else fails, beating up a pillow is good! Fortunately, DH is very good at coping with me being like this and knows...
  4. Chelsea - thanks for sharing the spoon theory, it's spot on!
  5. I'm joining in late too! I'm sure my celiac disease has caused my depression and all these rage symptoms. I was glutened just over a week ago and all week I've been so angry, irritable & depressed. I've also been wondering if there's a link with hypoglycemia - I've started a thread on the related disorders forum. I really feel for ouy swittenauer...
  6. I'm pretty sure I have problems with my blood sugar levels, although blood tests in the past (glucose levels, non-fasting) have not raised any concerns. I used to get it badly before going gluten-free, but seem to be suffering again this week, having been glutened. This evening was pretty bad. I'd eaten a large lunch (DH's birthday) and then didn't eat...
  7. Thanks Jess. I've been taking escitolopram (sp?!). It took ages for me to find one that didn't give me horrendous side effects. Hopefully this past week has just been a combination of horrible things that will pass...it doesn't help that DS has decided to get up at 5.30am - sleep deprivation is the real killer for me.
  8. thank you for your kind thoughts everyone. What would I do without you? Luckily I don't have to go into work tomorrow. I've got the day off as it's DH's 40th His treat is a meal at a wonderful resteraunt that has a gluten free menu On the subject of PMS, does anyone else get ridiculously hungry the day before their period? I always know when...
  9. Hi Lister. I really feel for you as stomach burning is my main symptom, and just about everything irritates it. Don't know about the popping though, although I'm guessing trapped wind like others have siad. I've had ulcers ruled out via endo. My sister has similar symptoms and her endo showed up a hernia, which can cause those symptoms. As well as getting...
  10. sorry in advance that this will seem like I'm feeling very sorry for myself....I am! Well, as of this week I've been gluten-free for 6 months. I 'celebrated' it by being glutened - my own stupid mistake as I didn't check the label This coicncided with me coming off my antidepressants. I was doing really well last week, but this week have been feeling...
  11. Well, I do feel like I've been glutened but is it likely that it's from Sunday's barley water this long afterwards? I agree about the problems with being a coeliac in the UK. On the one hane, we can get quite a bit of stuff on prescription, but on the other, we don't know if we are being slowly glutened. My GI and the CUK magazine have both said that...
  12. gfp: yes it was a CUK meeting. the whole 200ppm is illogical to me. I appreciate we can't always be 100% certain that we've got no gluten at all in what we eat, but it makes no sense to go deliberately eating it! If I am very thirsty and drink loads and loads of barley water, there must become a point when I'll get ill from the gluten?!
  13. I did loads of socialising over the weekend and was extremely careful not to eat anything with gluten in. Everyone I was with was very helpful in providing me with gluten-free food and being careful about cc. And then I go and ruin it all, by drinking what I thought was ordinary orange squash (without checking - I always check!) and it turns out to be orange...
  14. I am pretty sure I have RLS, although don't have a formal diagnosis. It has definitely got worse for me since the coeliac symptoms have manifest themselves. I'm pretty sure its vitamin/ mineral deficiency for me, but need to do some research on that. What I'm interested in, is what effect it has on everyone's sleep. I've never slept particularly well,...
  15. 'cleaning' up my diet is something I'd like to do, as, although I've seen some progress in the 6 months since being gluten-free, I've still got a lot of issues - primarily fatigue and achiness. I agree that it's sometimes difficult to tell whether our health problems are due to cc or other intolerances, or simply down to our bodies needing time to heal,...
  16. I used to get them loads before going gluten-free. I get a lot less now, and no mouth ulcers either. For me, cutting out tomatoes was a big key, and I use a toothpaste which doesn't contain sodium laurel sulfate, which is supposed to irritate the lining of the mouth. I also get them if I eat loads of sweet stuff.
  17. Just wondering what everyone does about dish cloths and sponges where they have family members still eating gluten. it suddenly occured to me this morning that this could be a cause of cc. What do you think?
  18. That's interesting as I am due on in the next few days. thanks for the suggestion!
  19. Thanks Patti. I know it will sound daft, but I don't know what a glutening incident is like for me. I've only been gluten-free for 4 months, and have been very strict. Having had good advice before I started the diet from my sister who also has celiac disease, and having gluten-free items in the UK on prescription, I think I've been very lucky in being able...
  20. Nini, Dee and Barbara - is there a connection between your fibromyalgia flare ups and the celiac disease or is it something separate? What I'm wondering is, whether what I'm experiencing is as a result of a glutening or something else entirely
  21. I posted yesterday about my aching muscles. I didn't think I'd been glutened, but am beginning to wonder. the thing is, I haven't had any bad GI symptoms. But, as well as feeling achey, today I've felt exhausted, depressed and had bad brain fog (we were shopping for curtains and I lost count of the number of times I had to ask DH what the measurements were...
  22. Hmm...that's very interesting thanks Dee. I've been presecribed calcium tabs and they contain vit D (not sure how much, but probably isn't vast amounts). Maybe the fact it's been raining so much the past few weeks isn't helping with the vit D Anyways, I think you're all right about the exercise...I don't really do much at all, mainly cos I'm so tired and...
  23. Wish I could say the same for here! It's been pouring with rain so much this week, that I haven't been able to pot my tomatoes on yet Still, they're doing well, which is great for me as a newbie to veggie growing
  24. I'm feeling really achey today, as if I've got flu, but I haven't (no other symptoms, except exhaustion). I'm as sure as I can be that I haven't been glutened (no GI or other symptoms). This happens on and off to me on a fairly regular basis. Every few weeks I'll feel really achey for a few days as if I've got flu, but nothing else happens. I've been gluten...
  25. We've got guests for lunch tomorrow and I thought I'd use the rhubarb from the garden to make a crumble. I've cooked the rhubarb and started tryinh to make crumble mixture with a gluten-free mix I've got (made mainly of corn flour) and it's just all gone into a big blob I can't get bread crumbs! Any good recipes for crumble mixture out there that will...
