  1. Hi I'm a GI nurse so all I do every day is sedate patients for scopes. No you can not eat egg whites. Anything besides clear liquids will produced poop which is something we don't want. You will not lose any mass from one day without food. Just make sure you are drinking lots of broth, tea, juice and Gatorade. Only colors you need to avoid is red and...
  2. TTg Iga is used for compliance 10 months into gluten-free mine went down to 4. When I was first diagnosed I went gluten free for about 2 weeks and then requested a repeat testing ( I wasn't in denial) and my number dropped 10 pots juat form 2 weeks gluten-free. So yes this can a d is used as a indicator of compliance.
  3. As a celiac the only things you can't eat is wheat, barley, or rye. Anything gluten free you can eat. That being said some celiacs have problems with some gluten free grains like Oats and quinoa. You will wan to stick to certified gluten free oats, butnif tou find your guy bothers you then stay away from oats. be careful about gluten free processed...
  4. Give it time one week is no where near enough time to see huge improvements. I really started to notice things at about one month. Just focus on doing gluten-free and if it's a shared household (gluten eaters and gluten-free eater) then.work on cross contamination precautions. And RELAX if at 6 months you still have bad diarrhea and a repeat blood TTg...
  5. Liver damage is very common in people with celiac. Plan on no alcohol for a while. Trust me it's not worth it, your body needs to heal. Thankfully the liver is the one organ that can repair itself, but it can only do that if you help take care of it. I wouldn't even think about drinking till your numbers are normal again, and even at that point I'd give...
  6. Not everyone has to cut out dairy. I didn't have avenge any issues myself. It's suggested because it's the villi that help us process the lactose. Secondly it sounds like you are trying to do the elimination diet thing blindly. That can be tough without a guideline to go by. My suggestion to you is look up Autoimmune Protoc and start that up. At least...
  7. If your blood work (antibody testing) indicates celiac then it's celiac. It's also very typical for those with other autoimmune diseases (diabetes. RA, Hashimotos etc) to have celiac, autoimmune diseases kind of go together...I have 5. Type1 diabetes, Hashimotos, dermatographic urticaria, celiac and Rheumatoid arthritis. Start by getting copies of your...
  8. You should see a GI specialist before you go gluten free. They should do a upper endoscopy to check for celiac damage. Colonoscopy won't show anything related to celiac. Also no you should not feel worse on gluten free, you should feel better.
  9. Can you post the name of the test, your result, and the reference ranges.
  10. Ditch the Cherrios! Their testing and process is sketchy at best. Also like others have said many celiacs can't tolerate even purity protocol oats. My GI and nutritionist both warned me to try to stay away from oat but maybe a few times per year because of cross reaction issues. If that doesn't help then I would try elimination diet of the big hitters...
  11. Those numbers are all perfect meaning they show you likely don't have celiac. Those tests are very accurate IF you are eating a normal diet of gluten. You must be eating gluten for weeks prior to this testing. So if you have not been then yes these results are not accurate.
  12. As a GI specialty nurse who also has celiac I can tell you that it can not be diagnosed by CT and rarely unless you have severe disease can it be diagnosed by colonoscopy. Those that have had it diagnosed by colonoscopy have such because their MDs were above to get into the small bowel from the bottom and take biopsys. Celiac damage is not seen in the large...
  13. How old is your daughter? For many kids it's best to do a endoscopy with biopsy because their systems haven't developed IGA yet. Did she have a total serum IGA done to see what her IGA levels are? Personally an endoscopy isn't a big deal I'd do the challenge now and just do it to be 100% sure. Why risk cross contamination of you aren't 100% sure ahe doesn...
  14. It is very specific for celiac BUT it is read by human eyes and preformed by a human. Which makes it sometimes not accurate due to human error. My biopsys showed severe villi atrophy my tTg Iga was high but my EMA was 1:10 dilution. the test is only as good as who is performing it. TTg Iga is crunch and counted by a machine. Far more accurate, I'm proof...
  15. Your tests indicate you are negative for celiac. The tTg IGA is the antibody test. Anything less than 20 indicates you are not celiac. The EMA is an older test and is measured in dilutions. Anything 1 to 20 dilution is negative. I do not see a result on your sheet but to be honest the tTg Iga test is far more accurate and specific anyway.
  16. Agree with Cyclinglady you are a really good example of why ALWAYS getting the biopsy is important unless its just not financially possible. The blood tests are great tools to lead to the biopsy but they have their flaws. The ultimate and most telling way is getting that tissue sample that shows the damage from celiac. You are on the right path so good...
  17. Hi Fundog I am a GI endoscopy nurse as well as a celiac. People with celiac have no higher risk for colon polyps then their non-celiac counterparts. People with celiac have colonoscopies in conjunction or usually after a positive biposy and blood test because having celiac puts you at a high risk for having microscopic colitis. You are also at higher...
  18. In this case it is probably best to speak to a manager or chef at the restaurant directly about what ingredients are in the soup.
