  1. Open Original Shared Link If the link doesn't work it is under the health section. Or search the site for 'gluten' and the article pops up. I listened to the story, then read it. I'm not sure what I think of it. Though they quickly mention Celiac, they completely write off the idea of gluten intolerance, and seem to be focusing on paranoia over food...
  2. I spent a semester in Italy, and it was the best few months of my life. Though, when I was there I didn't realize I was gluten intolerant so after gorging myself with pasta and gelato (lactose intolerant as well) I spent a good deal of the mornings sick! THe great thing about Italy is that I have heard they have a lot more knowledge about celiac than most...
  3. I must be doing something wrong!! I made the sausage pizza the other day and the taste was great, but it was really soggy. The leftovers are still in the fridge. Maybe I let it sit in the pan too long? Has anyone else had this and the crust was crispy??
  4. I have taken Reglan for morning sickness and pre-Pregnancy took Phenegran whenever I was extremely nauseated or was glutened. Phenegran can be given orally, or in a suppository or iv- it has always worked great for me and I like to keep some on hand for emergencies so I don't end up dehydrated. I think Reglan works by speeding up your digestive track...
  5. I also have mitral valve prolapse and experienced a lot of palpitations pre-gluten free days. I took beta blockers for 2 years and tried to stop once only to have my resting heart rate hit 170 while they were monitoring me! Once I stopped eating gluten the palpatations went away for the most part and I no longer need the medicine. I have noticed lately...
  6. The reglan seems to really be helping. I still feel nauseated, but I am not throwing up and have gotten a few good meals down. The doctor did tell me this is 100% a pregnancy thing not a celiac thing, that lots of women are sick for awhile, and that everything is fine as long as I stay hydrated. It really helps so much to hear that other women were very...
  7. I just thought I would give a quick update. I saw the nutritionist on Wednesday and she had a lot of great ideas for me on what to eat to help gain some weight and stay healthy. Basically, I need to try really hard for some grain alternatives and also eat more fat and calories. Things like avacados and peanut butter, but she said also to use lots of dressing...
  8. Thank you for your suggestions- I went out and bought some Boost and a ton of Gatorade. I think I may have been dehydrated but I am finding Gatorade a lot easier to drink than water and it seems to be helping. I am getting to the point where the nausea is better, but I am still not putting on any weight- even though I am hungry I have to force myself to...
  9. I just went for my 13 week appointment and I have lost another 5 pounds. I am really having trouble finding things to eat- I am the primary cook in the family and when I am too tired/sick to cook there seem to be very few options. I feel hungry, I just can't find things that are appealing. And what sounds appealing in the morning sounds disgusting once...
  10. PreCare makes a chewable. I recieved a sample of it awhile ago and I read through the ingredients with my doctor and it looked okay. I was going to have her call in a prescription for it and then double check with the pharmacists to make sure... I finally gave up on the horse pills! I just gag them up or throw them up so it is time for something different...
  11. It looks like I am certainly not alone in dealing w/ coworkers who have their heads up their bums. I think some people are just completely incapable of thinking about things from someone else's perspective. If non-celiacs had to live just ONE day without gluten, I think it would totally change their perspective on what it is like for us. Come Monday I...
  12. I LOVE it. But since I should probably take the high road (quite reluctantly I might add), I will probably follow some of the other suggestions and let the group know at the next meeting that I haven
  13. At work there is a tradition of donut friday. We have a plastic donut that gets passed around and on the back is everyones names and they all take turns bringing in donuts (which they place right by my desk but that is another story). When I discovered my gluten intolerance in '05 I let everyone know I would be opting out and no one had a problem with that...
  14. I am only 11 weeks along so I am at a totally different stage. But I also have had D, and don't think that I have eaten anything that could have glutened me. I haven't had it since I stopped eating gluten a year and half ago. Maybe it isn't a common pregnancy symtom like constipation seems to be, but it seems possible to me that with all the changes your...
  15. Another issue to consider is how comfortable you are with the diet and cooking gluten free, even finding gluten free convienance foods. I am nearing the end of the first trimester and have had the worst morning sickness. It has been a struggle to find foods that I can stomach that are gluten free and nutritious!! I had been cooking 95% of my meals but...
  16. This is good to know, sounds like it really isn't worth the money. I was thinking if they were really good, I would have heard of them by now. I did find that Gluten Free Girl had a recipe for homemade gluten-free ravioli so I am going to have to give that a try this weekend. Thanks everyone!
  17. I just came across this webiste today when I googled gluten free ravioli (having a major craving attack). Open Original Shared Link They have a bunch of things I would love to try like filled pasta shells, spinach ravioli, and fish sticks! But the minimum order is $75 and I am super hesitant to spend that in case it is terrible, like most of the...
  18. Wow, thank you! I have never been there before but I will be sure to go now. gluten-free bread?? In a cafe?? Sounds too good to be true!!
  19. I personally would not do it unless you have to for another reason. I had two done before I was 23 and the prep is terrible. And the general anesthesia didn't treat me so well either. From everything I have read/heard they need to biopsy the small intestine to diagnose. They never diagnosed me (looking in the wrong end I guess) but I diagnosed myself...
  20. Welcome! This is a great place to be to find support. It is SO HARD at first, but it gets easier. I diagnosed myself more or less when I was 24 and somewhat newly married. My biggest fear was that no one would believe me because so many doctors had told me I was crazy or a hypocondriac. But guess what? Once I started feeling so much better it was obvious...
  21. I also have had trouble with this issue. I always had terrible cramps and the worst PMS, and irregular cycles, and about 6 yeast infections a year. Because my husband and I were TTC, I started tracking my cycles shortly after I went off the pill- and the same time I stopped eating gluten. This was about 14 months ago and as time went by I noticed that...
  22. Thank you all for your advice! I think that once it really sinks in (because it still hasn't) that this is for a reason and that we are really going to have a baby, then I will be okay. A lot of people here and on other posts have said it helps to stay hydrated so I have been drinking a ton of water and herbal tea. So far, still only minor queasiness on...

It took me a long time to be comfortable eating out, but because of my job it is unavoidable. Over time I have found that most places seem to get it right and I have become slightly more trusting! I seek out places that have gluten free menus or places where the food tends to be naturally gluten free like Thai or Mexican, or salad bars. I do react...
  24. Lulu's Noodles downtown has a gluten free menu with a ton of options, if you ask for it. Their food is really good and I have never had a problem with getting sick from it. I eat there as much as possible. Also, Bonefish Grill is an upscale place that has a gluten free menu. If you like fish, it is delicious. I heard a rumor that Skye's also has...
  25. My husband and I just found out we are pregnant with #1. I am very excited (we were trying), but also quite overwhelmed. Emotionally, I am really worried about handling morning sickness. Before I found out about celiac, I spent three years of my life sick as a dog and hiding it from everyone- especially at the office. It was exhausting and now I nearly...
