I don't have any anaphylactic food allergies. I simply have intolerances. I'm not sure exactly what I'm intolerant to as of yet though I'm most focused on gluten, dairy, and soy. I was diagnosed lactose intolerant when I was a kid. It seems that many people with varying levels of gluten intolerance have reacted to incidental consumption of products so...

Is cross contamination as big a concern for other allergens as well? I'm currently avoiding dairy and soy as well as gluten (in addition to a number of other allergens which I'm less worried about) while I'm on an elimination diet. I'm now trying to ensure all of my products don't have gluten, which is a pain in itself. Do I also have to make sure products...

ARCHIVED Rice Cakes
Clark Bent as Stupor-Man replied to lemonade's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know that Lundberg rice cakes are gluten free. It's possible they make a certain flavor that isn't so just check on the package when you buy it, but most, if not all, say gluten free and wheat free right on the front. They taste decent w/ almond, cashew, or peanut butter. -
ARCHIVED Who's Hypoglycemic?
Clark Bent as Stupor-Man replied to zip2play's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
After my glucose tolerance test, one doctor said my results were borderline. Another doctor told me I had reactive hypoglycemia. As far as I can remember, I was told that the treatment for reactive hypoglycemia is the same as hypoglycemia, and no big deal of reactive hypoglycemia was ever made to me. I saw two different endocrinologists in the past... -
ARCHIVED Who's Hypoglycemic?
Clark Bent as Stupor-Man replied to zip2play's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I was diagnosed with reactive hypoglycemia after a glucose tolerance test a few years back. I've always been very symptomatic for hypoglycemia since a young age. When I was in middle school and had a late lunchtime, I had to get permission to go the nurse's office during the school day and eat a snack because I wasn't able to make it until lunchtime without... -
ARCHIVED What Does A Typical Day Of Eating Look Like For You All?
Clark Bent as Stupor-Man replied to BeccaM's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm on a modified elimination diet... been gluten-free for just over a month... here's an example of an average day: breakfast - rice cake w/ almond butter and an apple or pear mid-morning snack - chicken thigh w/ carrots and rice crackers pre-lunch snack - rice bar lunch - 2 chicken thighs w/ lettuce and salad dressing afternoon snack -... -
Horrible Pressure Headaches After Eating
Clark Bent as Stupor-Man replied to lemonade's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
these type of headaches were my primary focus for the past 4 or 5 years.. I've pretty much had a headache every day since at least the start of 2003... I've had 2 MRI's, seen multiple doctors, had a glucose tolerance test... all mostly negative (glucose tolerance test - borderline hypoglycemic/reactive hypoglycemia)... I also took daily preventative headache... -
ARCHIVED Msg
Clark Bent as Stupor-Man replied to gointribal's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
just as a heads up, I read somewhere that MSG may also be listed as "yeast extract" on ingredient lists... I've since seen yeast extract on some microwave meals and chips -
thanks for the ideas... I've been eating a lot of almond butter the past couple weeks in addition to chicken, other meats, tuna, etc... unfortunately, it looks like I'm still gonna have to cook more than I want to even with alternative meals.. tiffany, some of those seem like good ideas.. but I'm not quite sure how muffins would turn out if I tried to...

Thanks for the recipe, but I'm looking more for ideas which involve no cooking. As of now, I cook the night before work and bring the food in the next day, but I need some easy meal/snack ideas to complement this and for days I don't feel like cooking or am out and don't have access to a stove or oven. Though I'm sure I'll be looking for a lot more cooking...

I've been gluten free for a month or so already and am getting used to cooking all the time, but I need some ideas for easy to prepare meals/snacks high in protein. I used to eat takeout all the time and just picked up food whenever I needed it. I still feel my body needs protein at least 5 or 6 times a day, minimum, for at least the time being. I've always...

ARCHIVED Are All Nuts Gluten Free?
Clark Bent as Stupor-Man replied to mikeyfooos's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was using the bins for cashews and almonds when I first started on an elimination diet 2 months ago, but I had an allergic reaction to something last month which I've narrowed down to 2 things: one of which was cashews I bought from a scooping bin. I don't think it was cross-contamination but just that they could have gone bad. I personally find it easier... -
ARCHIVED Haha Grrrrrrr
Clark Bent as Stupor-Man replied to klemmen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
on a separate note regarding chocolate, my sister (who has RSD) was informed by one of her current doctors who has her on an alkaline vs acidity diet that chocolate is one of the foods that makes coping with pain more difficult -
ARCHIVED Meat Intolerance?
Clark Bent as Stupor-Man replied to ebrbetty's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had an allergic reaction a couple weeks ago to something I ate, which I have pretty much narrowed down to a batch of cashews which may have gone bad or the ground beef, which seems to be more likely. I'm allergic to penicillin, augmentin, amoxicillin, etc. and the reaction I had a few weeks back was nearly identical to the reaction I had to augmentin as... -
ARCHIVED Eye Tic?
Clark Bent as Stupor-Man replied to eleep's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had completely forgotten about that. I had a twitch in my left eye a year and a half ago that literally lasted about 5 or 6 weeks. I've had twitches at other times, but none that persisted for more than a couple days. I would never have attributed it to celiac disease and still probably wouldn't, but it's odd to see this post. I'm pretty sure mine was... -
ARCHIVED Cant Think Straight, Exhausted, Weak, Tired
Clark Bent as Stupor-Man replied to lemonade's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've only been strictly gluten-free for about a month, but it seems as if the brain fog aspects (formulating thoughts, processing information, focusing, etc.) seem to be decreasing significantly already. I'm also avoiding dairy, soy, and minimizing a number of other potential food allergens. As for the exhaustion and weakness feelings, I still have them... -
ARCHIVED Waking Up Every Hour To Pee
Clark Bent as Stupor-Man replied to wilbragirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Until I saw this post, I didn't realize I was peeing less since going gluten-free. But thinking back on the last couple weeks, I'm pretty sure I am peeing less frequently during most days and sleeping through the night most nights as well. -
ARCHIVED Is Anyone Else Completely Sick Of Having To Pack A Lunch Everyday?
Clark Bent as Stupor-Man replied to frenchiemama's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I used to eat out all the time so I'm still getting used to having to make every meal and prepare lunch for the next day. It's a constant cycle of grocery shopping, freezing foods, defrosting them, cooking them, packaging them for the next day, etc. Not to mention making sure I bring enough food every day in case I have to work late or go to the gym upstairs... -
ARCHIVED What Is Your Ethnic Origin?
Clark Bent as Stupor-Man replied to Emme999's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
just as a disclaimer: I'm still undiagnosed and avoiding a number of foods which could be the culprits but am feeling better since eliminating gluten early January... - Irish, German, Scottish, and French on my pops' side - Lithuanian, Estonian, and Romanian (Jewish background) from my maternal grandmother... no knowledge of anything re: my maternal... -
I'm pretty much identical to this except I'm in my first month of the gluten-free diet. I didn't have any problems (except for the typical hangovers) while drinking in high school and for most of college. And I drank a lot in college (there's a reason why Lehigh was the number 1 college in beer for years). Somewhere around the time I started dating my...

ARCHIVED Mental Fatigue
Clark Bent as Stupor-Man replied to mandigirl1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've had brain fog for at least a couple years now. When the brain fog is at its worst, I'll reread simple sentences 10, 20 times. It takes me a lot longer to process things mentally, and my coordination and ability to formulate my thoughts in conversations is often affected. I'm still not sure about this whole gluten/food allergy thing and am in my... -

ARCHIVED Envirokids Bars
Clark Bent as Stupor-Man replied to Clark Bent as Stupor-Man's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Here is the reply I received from Nature's Path Foods. Apparently, the soybean oil on the wrapper is not currently being used. "Thank you for your email. It is canola oil now - BUT there is a future possibility of having to change to soy - due to an international shortage of organic canola. (thus the and/or) "
