  1. Is there anything at KFC that comes close to being gluten free?
  2. Using the forum's search engine tool, choose "everywhere" and type in "dermatitis herpetiformis". I do not manifest the rash so I'm not particularly familiar with what it looks like. But that search should term up some pictures for you. Also google it on the internet.
  3. Welcome to the forum, Laurie! It may not disappear until you achieve 100% gluten free. Your goal should be total abstinence from gluten rather than just lower gluten eating. Can you confirm that the rash is actually DH (dermatitis herpetiformis)? The only known cause for DH is celiac disease. If it is not DH it is being caused by something other...
  4. Chronic inflammation as a general body condition or are you talking about inflammation mainly in his gut? Welcome to the forum, Valerie!
  5. I'm 71 years old so I know things have changed since I was in university training. Back then we had two or three cafeterias where everyone ate together but the food was cooked in the kitchen and you went through a serving line. It was covered in our tuition. But they were full course meals.
  6. Yes, eating gluten free on a college campus would be quite a challenge. Do you eat a central cafeteria on campus? What's the arrangement for meals there?
  7. Ian, are you struggling in so far as compliance with the gluten free diet?
  8. While it is true that celiac disease has long fingers, there is a tendency in the celiac community to blame all health issues on celiac disease. Have you ever had plantar fasciitis (inflammation of the plantar tendon on the bottom of your foot and heel)? The pattern there is for it to be so tender in the morning when you get out of bed that you can hardly...
  9. Welcome to the forum, Ian! What you describe sounds like it could be tendonitis.
  10. If it makes sense to you, that's all that matters. Sorry, I didn't mean for this exchange to get contentious but this thread has extended out to eight pages and sometimes seems to be going around in circles. Peace!
  11. From the OP: "Tried giving up gluten but I need carbs." "I’ve never been diagnosed for celiac but I got off gluten years ago and I felt great so I’m assuming that is the answer." You felt great after giving up gluten but now you are back to eating wheat bread sandwiches and feel crummy. But in a more recent post you said you gave up bread and it ...
  12. So, help me understand. You seem convinced that gluten is not your problem and that you don't have either celiac disease or NCGS. Then why did you come here to an online community dedicated to helping people who likely have one of those two gluten-related problems?
  13. Without bread or without gluten entirely? There is more to avoiding gluten than just eliminating loaf bread. Gluten is found in a myriad of food products that people never would expect to find it. Simply eliminating bread might allow you to achieve a lower gluten but not gluten free.
  14. These are all blood tests and yes, I would for sure specifically ask for them. If you are in the UK, you might not get cooperation from the physician since there they are limited in being able to test outside the box prescribed by their healthcare system.
  15. Thanks for the update, Hector.
  16. To refer back to one of my earlier posts, young children often have an under-developed IGA immune response subsystem. That's why it's important to get a "total IGA" count. If the total IGA is low, the fractional IGA scores will be depressed. For the same reason, it's critical to have the DGP tests done.
  17. So, just to be clear, the breakfast cereal would need to be wheat-based to give her the pretest gluten exposure she needs. Barley and rye also contain gluten but only a fraction of that in wheat.
  18. Is the cereal a wheat or barley product? The gluten containing grains are wheat, barley and rye.
  19. Well, now that you are eating bread on a regular basis, you should get tested for celiac disease.
  20. Welcome to the forum, Laurenmw! Her tummy symptoms certainly are congruent with celaic disease or possibly NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity). There is no test or NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out. But NCGS is 10x more common than celiac disease. The first step in screening for celiac disease would be blood antibody testing. Just a...
  21. SargeMaximus, So, your aren't eating gluten free after all! I think everyone participating in this thread assumed you were. I wish you had mentioned the snacks at work early on in this thread. You are not even close to eating gluten free if you are eating wheat bread sandwiches regularly at work. In fact, the celiac antibody pretest guidelines for those...
  22. To camp on what April42 said, There is a manifestation of celieac disease that a minority of celiacs get which produces an epidermal reaction to gluten called dermatitis herpetiformis (or "DH"). Celaic disease is the only known cause for it so if a person has it they have celiac disease. A certain percentage of those with DH do not get gut involvement in...
  23. The yellow poop can be caused by other food intolerances/sensitivities apart from gluten. Milk, soy, eggs, corn, oats (even gluten-free oats) are known to be common additional intolerances for those with gluten disorders. Then there is MCAS (Mast Cell Activation Syndrome) and histamine intolerance which can cause GI irregularities.
  24. Yes I did. But I don't have any confidence in the results because you were only back on gluten for two weeks. The gluten challenge before an endoscopy/biopsy is shorter. That is actually 2 weeks. It's too bad your doctor didn't order a more complete antibody panel with total IGA and DGP tests. One of those might have picked something up.
