  1. It was by far the hardest thing I've ever had to do. My kitty is about 14 and had been "sick" for a while with renal failure but wasn't having too many problems. Her quality of life was still really good. I noticed about a month ago that she looked like she'd lost some weight and was sleeping a lot more and generally acting like she wasn't feeling...
  2. To the OP, it's all about calories. Consume more than you burn and you'll gain weight. IMO, your best bet is dense, high calorie foods like nut butters and cheese (if you can handle dairy). It's quite easy to pile 3 tablespoons of peanut butter onto a PB&J sandwich or stick an extra slice of cheese on a sandwich.
  3. If it is Celiac, you haven't been gluten-free long enough to do some major healing. Once you heal, you might notice you can have milk/dairy again.
  4. Take this with a grain of salt, but I drink a LOT of red wine and I have never had a problem. Ever.
  5. I'm the head of Accounting for a tech company.
  6. I love Diet Coke! I also drink a lot of coffee with skim or half & half, water, water with crystal lite, and chai tea (stash or celestial seasonings brands).
  7. I have the Mirena. I would say I'm really happy with it because it is painless, has given me zero periods since insertion, is affordable, and is worry-free. But I developed bad cystic acne from it and am annoyed enough that I will most likely not be getting another put in when it is time to take this one out (in 3 years). Instead, my husband...
  8. Families can be the worst. I think if I broke out in hives or went into anaphylactic shock after eating gluten, they'd get it. People understand peanut allergies. No one gives someone with a peanut allergy grief for asking about the oil they fry their french fries in. You are 100% not alone here. So sorry that your family is so unsupportive....
  9. 21. I had been sick for 2-1/2 years before that. I feel fortunate that I wasn't sick for that long before I went gluten-free. Could have been a lot worse.
  10. I just looked at their website and it looks like the only products affected are the Quakes and mini rice cakes. The ingredients for the lightly salted rice cakes (which is the only flavor I eat) are still just rice and salt. But I will be sure to look at the ingredients for every package I buy just in case. WTF is the deal with companies deciding that...
  11. The simple answer is that your intestines aren't going to heal unless you stop cheating and stop ingesting any trace amounts of gluten.
  12. Technically I have coffee for breakfast since I don't usually get around to eating until 10 or 11 AM. But when I do eat, I usually have one of two things (on weekdays): protein shake - soymilk - frozen blueberries - protein powder - 1/2 frozen banana - 1/4 c. plain nonfat yogurt - 2 large kale leaves - handful baby spinach yogurt mess - fage...
  13. I eat Daisy 2% on a daily basis without any problems
  14. Thanks for the quick response Patti. I'm a bit concerned right now as I've also been having floating stools. So combined with the tooth enamel problems, it looks like I am definitely have nutrient absorption problems.
  15. About a week and a half ago, I was getting ready for be and brushing my teeth. I happened to look in the mirror and see a small indention in one of my front teeth in the center of the tooth, near the top. At first I thought it was a speck of food or something but upon further inspection, I realized that a small piece of my tooth had chipped off. I've had...
  16. It's definitely possible. I gained 25 lbs in about 6 months when I was really sick and then promptly lost it all when I went gluten-free. (I've since gained some back since discovering some Ben & Jerry's is gluten-free... oops!) I think Celiac makes it harder to maintain a healthy weight, whether it is gaining too much or losing too much.
  17. Xanthan gum kills me. I have almost a worse reaction to Xanthan gum than gluten, if you can imagine.
  18. My husband. He's been behind me 1000% since the beginning. I have supportive friends and all of my coworkers and employees are supportive as well. But I have to give the biggest props to my husband, as he goes above and beyond supportive. I'm so lucky to have him.
  19. My husband and I are not planning on having children, but if we did, we would absolutely keep our kids gluten-free until they could be tested. Absolutely.
  20. Oklahoma Starbucks also use a random brand of soymilk. I'm not sure what is in the new brand, but it's not good.
  21. O+
  22. I don't think tough love is what you need. Most of us mourned the loss of regular food before (and after!) we went gluten-free. Eating gluten-free doesn't have to be super inconvenient. I don't like to cook much (thank goodness I have a husband who plays around in the kitchen once or twice a week) so I eat quick foods like omelets, sandwiches on gluten...
  23. Oops, good catch. I use NOW brand for the Glutamine and Fennel Seed, and the multi is from Doctor's Choice.
