  1. Thanks, Patti. I hope I didn't completely waste $500.
  2. Thanks for your thoughts. I am definitely planning on doing an elimination diet. I figure if I cut them all out and actually feel better, I'll know that at least one of them is making me sick and can add things back one at a time. I guess I figure that at least this gives me a place to start from and know what to cut out...
  3. Hey everyone - I did the A.L.C.A.T. Comprehensive V test. Here's what came back (I promise, this is going to be LONG)... Red foods - severe reaction: broccoli cane sugar corn date flaxseed garlic green pepper honeydew melon lemon lime lobster olive orange foods - moderate reaction: avocado basil beef buckwheat cantaloupe eggplant...
  4. This makes A LOT of sense to me. Thanks for taking the time to explain it!
  5. What if you usually react to hidden gluten, like cc? It seems odd that I could react to a crumb or particle and not react when it was a major ingredient...
  6. I had no idea Target and the like did that! Have you checked into any state programs that offer free classes for preparing for GEDs? I don't know where you live, but I remember hearing about some here.
  7. I know men don't like hugs, but ((hugs)) I'm so sorry you are having lots of problems right now! Perhaps you should start looking for another job? I don't know if it would be any better, but have you thought of places like Target, Wal-mart, etc.? I know they hire high-school age, so I know you don't need a diploma to work there. The conditions might be...
  8. I heard that you should wait a week after introducing new foods so you know there isn't a reaction... but with you being on no food at all, I don't really know. I'll leave this up to the experts...
  9. I eat leftovers. I make a bunch of entrees (usually 4) on Sunday and put them in individual containers. I take 4 with me to work each day and eat one every 2-2.5 hours. This morning I had a rice, red, green & yellow pepper, onion, tomato, and turkey sausage casserole. Yum!
  10. Thanks. I've done the elimination diet, but didn't get as many results as I'd hoped for. I'm doing the A.L.C.A.T. test next week, so I look forward to seeing what comes up as an intolerance.
  11. Looks yummy but you should probably add some different veggies. Corn, carrots & peas are the starchy, high-calorie vegetables. Pretty much any of the green veggies besides the peas would be a great, low-calorie addition that adds more nutrients and fiber.
  12. Does anyone know? I am not at home, so I can't look up the number on the back of the package to call and google didn't get me really anywhere.
  13. I have bloating & C too and I'm currently trying to find out what other foods are causing them. I'm also experiencing bad back pain that I think is from another intolerance. Sorry I couldn't be of more help! Also, I think you're supposed to do the elimination diet for longer than a week or two...
  14. tiffjake, I'm so happy to read that you had positive results after getting the test. I ended up getting the Comprehensive V package, and after the $35 lab fee, it was $505 even. A LOT to shell out for a medical test, but my insurance CLAIMS they will cover 80% of whatever is left after my deductible. Sadly, the billing lady at A.L.C.A.T. said that my insurance...
  15. Not the portion of celiacs that have C rather than D. We go to the bathroom LESS often than everyone!
  16. Sadly, I find the more I find out about CC issues (and I'm pretty well-versed as it is), the more paranoid I get. I wouldn't be worrying too much about the wooden spoons getting glutened in the dishwasher except we started using them more often and I've been continually sick for the past 2 months. Granted, I think it's something else, but as we all know...
  17. Ok, I know we can't have wooden spoons that were previously or are currently being used to cook with gluten because wood is absorbent. But what about a gluten-free wooden spoon that gets put in the dishwasher where there are possible gluten particles floating around? Does that contaminate it? My husband scrubs his gluten-y dishes pretty well when he...
  18. I second this. I'm a quantity person, so I get the air-popped, no butter, no oil kind and eat the whole bag. There's just something so appealing to me about being able to eat from a bowl twice the size of my head for only 220 calories.
  19. Hey everyone - I'm bumping this because I'm strongly, strongly considering doing the A.L.C.A.T. test. My food sensitivities seem to be ever changing, so I'd like to get a reading on what I'm really intolerant to and what is actually making me feel miserable for the past 2 months. I hate to do it, but I'm thinking about shelling out over $400 for the A...
  20. Thanks for all the replies - I feel like there are fewer of us, so we have to help each other out! I recently cut out dairy and most fats again and have been having less problems with C. It seems like dairy really constipates me, so I'm going to save it for special occasions, or maybe eat it once a week. I notice that when I was on the elimination diet...
  21. Dairy intolerance feels different to everyone. My symptoms are just like those of gluten. If you weren't diagnosed too long ago, your dairy intolerance might be temporary. Whether I can handle dairy or not depends on how damaged I am - I've noticed that after a severe glutening, I can't handle it for a while until I heal again. But really, it's an...
  22. Autumn, have you tried eating calorie dense fruits like dates or canned fruit? They're cheap. I ate a lot of both of those when I was on my elimination diet. Might be something to save for "dessert" to get the calories in for the day... And if you're only slowly losing weight, it might be because your metabolism has slowed due to eating so few calories...
  23. Just wanted to caution you gals that are eating below 1200 (or really, for that matter, below 1500) - unless you are a really small person, that is too little calories. Yes, you're going to lose at first, but you should never eat below your BMR, and few people (even my 5'0" best friend) have a BMR below 1200. Here are some great calculators that tell...
  24. Autumn, so sorry to hear you are limited on your food choices. I'm limited now as well, as I feel I need to go back to being low-fat and no dairy in case that is the reason I've been sick for the past month. Shirley, I'm pretty sure you can get in just as good of a workout walking your dog and maybe doing a few strength training videos at home. I prefer...
