ARCHIVED gluten-free Shampoo, Conditioner, And Body Products
emcmaster replied to angel42's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I emailed B&B and they said that both the super rich conditioner and gentle shampoo were gluten-free. Here are the ingredients - perhaps I'm missing something? Shampoo: Water, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate, Cocamide DEA, Coco Betaine, Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate, Avocado Oil, Comfrey Extract, Nettle Extract, Polyquaternium-7, Guar... -
ARCHIVED A Question For Those With Constipation Problems
emcmaster replied to emcmaster's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes, I definitely get more C when I've been glutened. I have found that since I went gluten-free, my C isn't nearly as bad, but I still have it. Even when I was on an elimination diet I had it. I should go get some prunes... I always forget about that as being a good remedy. Thanks -
ARCHIVED Food Diary "a Day In The Gluten-free Life"
emcmaster replied to kbabe1968's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I don't really eat set breakfast, lunch & dinner meals, but here's what I ate: coffee with coffeemate cottage cheese with pineapple chunks homemade chicken cacciatore soup (chicken & veggie soup), baby ruth fun-size bar protein shake (designer whey chocolate & milk), apple chicken nachos (baked tostitos, ff refried beans, homemade enchilada... -
ARCHIVED A Question For Those With Constipation Problems
emcmaster posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi If you get "backed up" do you experience severe bloating and pain? I thought i'd been glutened yesterday, but I think it was just some serious C. Also, if you take something to help you go, do you often feel better as it starts working but before you actually go? I felt horrible all day yesterday than I mixed some miralax with V8. This morning... -
ARCHIVED Yogurt, Any One?
emcmaster replied to Ronnie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I typically use that same method, but because walmart actually prints 'gluten-free' on items that they have verified to be gluten-free, I am suspicious of eating something they don't print it on. Not saying for sure that it definitely contains gluten, just that it seems that if it were verified to be gluten-free, they would have printed it on there. -
ARCHIVED Local Celiac Support Group's Leader Makes Me Nervous!
emcmaster replied to Electra's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Cheese can contain gluten - shredded cheese often has flour, cornstarch or potato starch (the latter two which are gluten-free of course) added to prevent sticking. -
ARCHIVED Celiacs Disease And A Freshman In College
emcmaster replied to morrisgirl's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi there, I'm a senior at the Univ. of Oklahoma and was diagnosed in April, so I was already living with my husband when I was diagnosed, so no help on the cafeteria. I can tell you, however, that parties and the social scene are not a problem at all. Your friends will understand and most people seem to think it's interesting (at least for the first 5... -
ARCHIVED Yogurt, Any One?
emcmaster replied to Ronnie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You're referring to Walmart's brand, Great Value, right? I thought that wasn't gluten-free since they print "gluten-free" on all items that they have verified to be gluten-free... -
ARCHIVED Could My New Wooden Spoons Have Just Glutened Me?
emcmaster posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
We ran them through the dishwasher before we used them, but since we don't have a strict gluten-free household (husband has his own stuff), they were in there with items that had had gluten on them. I had two gluten-free wooden spoons before, though, that I ended up having to throw away because they accidentally got used for gluten items. I never had... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Shampoo, Conditioner, And Body Products
emcmaster replied to angel42's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Bumble & Bumble Gentle Shampoo, Super Rich conditioner, Styling Creme & Hair Powder - those, as far as I know, are gluten-free but I'm not sure about their other products. I also use Kerastase Chroma Reflect line. -
ARCHIVED New, Guilty, And Overwhelmed!
emcmaster replied to LoveMyHoney's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Jamie! Big props to you for being such a caring wife! I know your husband appreciates it - my husband was as wonderful and understanding as you are when I was diagnosed in April. Having such great support at home makes a huge difference! One really easy thing I've found: buy as much food as possible at wal-mart and buy their Great Value brand. It... -
ARCHIVED Am I Being Unreasonable, Or Is He?
emcmaster replied to emcmaster's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I appreciate your posting that trick - if the squirting method doesn't work long-term, that's something we will try next. The reason we didn't try it first is that Matt really likes her sleeping with us. -
ARCHIVED Am I Being Unreasonable, Or Is He?
emcmaster replied to emcmaster's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Thought I would give you a report of how well it's going since it's been a little more than a week since we first implemented the squirting.. She meowed last Saturday night, so I bolted out of bed, found her in the bathroom, held her down and squirted her three times at point blank range in the face. She seemed to get the picture. No more meowing all... -
ARCHIVED Am I Being Unreasonable, Or Is He?

Because she would meow very loudly and scratch the door and the carpet all night long. She's not a pleasant cat when she doesn't get her way. -
ARCHIVED Poll: Official Diagnosis Or ?
emcmaster replied to Nantzie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I don't tell new doctors that I haven't been tested. I tell them I have Celiac and no one really asks questions after that. Don't doctors that are knowledgeable about celiac say that positive dietary response is often enough "proof" that someone has Celiac/gluten intolerance? IMO, it's enough for me. -
Open Original Shared Link Go to the above calculator, enter your info, find calories needed for maintenance and add 500 calories a day to that number. That will have you gaining weight at about a pound a week. Of course, to do that you'll need to count the calories you take in each day, but that isn't hard. Good luck.

ARCHIVED Corn Chips
emcmaster replied to Carriefaith's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
IMO, Mission tortilla chips are the absolute best packaged tortilla chips. We eat those or baked tostitos when I'm trying to be "good" -
ARCHIVED How Long After Being "glutened" Do You Get Symptoms?
emcmaster replied to kbabe1968's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I get bloated almost right away and the pain and nausea sets in anywhere from 2-36 hours later. -
ARCHIVED Did My Dairy/fat Intolerance Return Or Am I Just Still Glutened?
emcmaster replied to emcmaster's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks Ursula. I feel back to normal today, so I'm guessing that it was a combination of not being quite healed and maybe a little bit of glutening from the Target brand stuff. I'm not really sure that stuff is gluten free and if it is, there may be some cc issues. I'm going to buy some cheese that I know is gluten-free and eat it this weekend. If I do fine... -
ARCHIVED Poll: Official Diagnosis Or ?
emcmaster replied to Nantzie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That's pretty much my story to the T except I didn't have neuro symptoms and my IBS-like symptoms had lasted for 2 years. -
Hi everyone, I was dairy and fat intolerant until November, when I had absolutely no problems eating either again. I got glutened severely, practically every day, during the week surrounding Christmas. It typically takes about a week to get over a glutening and then I feel fine, but I'm still feeling pretty bad. I felt much better yesterday and now I...

ARCHIVED Easy Meals To Be Frozen
emcmaster replied to es2443's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I freeze everything. The only thing I don't freeze is lettuce because it doesn't defrost well. -
ARCHIVED The Christmas/ New Year Period
emcmaster replied to Saz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have noticed that this has been the case for me up until the week surrounding Christmas. I think I got so badly glutened at Christmas that there was no chance I was going to get reduced symptoms like I have had when glutened over the past few months. Before my last glutening, I could tell I'd been glutened, but the symptoms were milder than normal and lasted... -
ARCHIVED Not Diagnosed By Doctor; But On Diet Anyway...
emcmaster replied to betterbelly's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi & welcome! I have not had any tests or biopsies, but my immediate and drastic improvement on the gluten-free diet, as well as ability to suddenly digest dairy and fat (I hadn't been able to for 2 years) again 7 months after going gluten-free, is all the proof I need to know that I have celiac. That and the fact that my doctor thinks it's enough...
