  1. I have a "Playmate Elite" big cooler by Coolmate for taking to work every day. We just bought Open Original Shared Link for traveling over Christmas.
  2. I think the strictness of South Beach is what makes it a fad diet. If you consider that South Beach focuses on eating lean meats, lots of veggies, good fats, good carbs & fruits, it's a great healthy eating plan. But the idea of cutting carbs out for the first few weeks (I'm pretty sure SB does this) or even counting carbs at all makes it a "diet", not...
  3. I disagree with this. Protein aids in digestion of carbs like the sugars in fruit and has been shown to keep you feeling fuller for longer than either fat or carbs. Eating a lot of fruit in the morning is fine, but you shouldn't eat ONLY fruit.
  4. You're absolutely right. If you are, say, a 5'0" person with small bones, you don't need as many calories as someone like me who is 5'7" with a medium-sized frame. I don't think there is a static number, but I think many people make the mistake of eating too little for a long time. You get results when you eat 1200 calories a day... but you'll eventually...
  5. Hi Mike, At my parish, they don't break the wafer into the cup. I sit as close as possible to the front and try to be the first to receive from the cup. If I get there late and have to sit in the back, I just get blessed (like the children do before First Communion) instead. Not ideal, but I'm not willing to risk getting glutened. Ener-G makes gluten...
  6. I completely agree with this. You could eat only one macronutrient all day long and as long as your calories were correct, you'd lose weight. It has nothing to do with what percentage of each macronutrient you eat, but how many calories you total at the end of the day. Fad diets, i.e. South Beach, etc., don't work in the long run because you are depriving...
  7. I don't have a recipe - I use Kinnikinnick's frozen pizza crusts. I think they're absolutely amazing.
  8. Before I went gluten-free, that's exactly how my stomach was. While I was steadily gaining weight due to the celiac, my belly was mostly bloat.... but because the bloat never actually went down, ever, I was unsure. I knew I was bloated, I just didn't know how much was bloat and how much was fat. Another thing that you need to try are BCQ capsules by Vital...
  9. My first question, as you posted this in the diet forum, is is it actually a belly or is it all bloat? Sometimes it's hard to tell which is which. If it's bloating, which is my biggest symptom, I would definitely journal your food. Everything that goes into your mouth or on your body needs to be written down. For me, gluten & xanthan gum bloat me up...
  10. Alcohol is a GI stimulant, so if you are prone to D in the first place, you'll likely get some form of D from the alcohol. I am prone to C, so alcohol sometimes helps me to "clean out" my system when needed. I drank it frequently before going gluten-free for this very reason. However, since going gluten-free, it gives me terrible abdominal pain the next...
  11. Open Original Shared Link donuts are really good and I've heard their muffins and cinnamon buns are excellent as well.
  12. I'm sure it's not the dairy and I consume a fair amount of artificial sweeteners which don't bother me. Plus, I broke out in a rash that only comes up when I've been glutened. Because the ingredients looked ok, how is Jello on CC? That would be my first guess - not that the ingredients had gluten in them but that it somehow snuck in there from CC.
  13. It was the sugar free reduced calorie Moccachino (or something to that effect) one. I attributed it to cc from something else I'd eaten the first time, as the ingredients all looked safe, but I got glutened again after eating one last night. Anyone else have a problem with these? Jello is made by Kraft (I think), so they SHOULD list all gluten containing...
  14. I haven't tried it as a pizza crust yet, but I wasn't a fan of it as a bread. Then again, my gold standard is Kinnikinnick english muffins. I think they are as good if not better than real (gluten-y) bread. The taste and texture are just like french bread. Of course, they're about $1 a muffin. But IMO they're worth it.
  15. After trying desperately for months to make good gluten-free and low-fat baked goods, I finally realized that it's practically impossible. The same recipes that I thought were just really bad recipes were actually wonderful when made with only slightly reduced or full fat ingredients. Gluten-free baked goods for some reason just need the fat. Not sure why...
  16. We had: turkey (butterball) steamed fresh green beans, dressed with a little butter & salt sweet potato, cranberry & pineapple casserole (SO good!) mashed potatoes cranberry-orange relish (fresh cranberries, oranges, sugar) butternut squash casserole (which would have been gluten-free if my mom hadn't forgotten and used a wooden spoon...
  17. All I ever eat is leftovers! I make big batches of several different things on the weekends - stuff like soups, stews, casseroles - and freeze all into individual portions. At the beginning of each week, I take out 15 or 20 random containers and eat on that all week.
  18. Yes, they are supposed to, but they often aren't. I'm very sorry about your troubles. It's frustrating and as much as we sometimes want to beat them over the heads with a 2x4, we can't make people understand nor be sympathetic.
  19. 1. Do you suffer from coeliac disease? Yes No 2. What kind of product would you most like to see more of on the market? Breakfast Lunch Dinner Dessert Snack Special occasion Fast food Other (please specify) 3. Would you like this product to be sweet or savoury? Sweet Savoury 4a. How would you like this product to be served? Cold...
  20. Audiori J, thanks so much for posting your story! I am so glad that you think you found your "answer" to all of your horrible symptoms over the years - you poor thing! I consider myself really lucky because it was only a few years between the time my symptoms started and when I went gluten-free. I hope that you are doing well on the diet!
  21. Oscar Meyer "2/3 less fat turkey sausage" is AMAZING. My husband and I ate it before I went gluten-free, so I was happy to see that it is indeed gluten-free. I has a wonderful spicy flavor that is excellent in soups and cajun dishes. And it's ridiculously cheap - $1.68 at walmart for a package of 2 sausages.
  22. Another vote for Kinnikinnick. I had it for the first time last night and it was fantastic!
  23. I know various people's stories from reading various posts over the last 8 months, but I think this would be a great place to gather ALL the stories. I am interested to see how others were diagnosed, how long they were sick beforehand, how quickly their symptoms disappeared, how supportive their family was, etc. I'll start. No symptoms until after...
  24. I echo CarrieFaith on the statement that you are still healing and may be reacting to safe foods. I know that I thought I was getting glutened every week or two when I first went gluten-free, and while I may have actually been glutened some of the time, it's more likely that I was just having bad days as I was healing.
