  1. Much love and good wishes to you, Patti! You have been such a support to me these last 9 months!
  2. Yup, and I'm still recovering.
  3. Hey there! I'm really sorry to hear that you had a rough time with the NY's party. I had the same problem - got really really sick over Christmas and still was feeling sick when our NY's party rolled around. We actually called the people we invited on sunday morning to tell them that I was feeling sick so we were just going to have them over for dinner and...
  4. I bought rice butter from the store (I don't recall the brand name... it was the same brand that makes "Rice Shreads"... but I think it might have casein in it which didn't bother me) and I made Rice yogurt using a homemade yogurt maker plus a gluten-free/df/sf starter (you'll have to search online for it).
  5. I've been gluten-free for 8-1/2 months and it definitely changed for me. When I first went gluten-free, my symptoms (severe bloating, nausea, lots of stomach pain) lasted about a week in duration and didn't get better until the last day. As I've healed, I still have the same symptoms, but sometimes one is missing (like I'll have nausea and pain but no bloating...
  6. I used to be a full-time nanny - this is what I've gathered... What brand of diapers is best? - Pampers seems to be the best, but I know my Mom claims that Luvs is just as good. What brand of wipes is best? - They use the "parent's choice" off-brand one from walmart and it seems to work just as well. I don't think wipes need to be as good as diapers...
  7. Hi Laurie (assuming that is your name from your screenname), While not fun, going dairy-free is very do-able. I was dairy-free for almost two years. I used soy or rice butter, soy/rice/almond milk, made my own yogurt from soy/rice/almond milk, etc. Yes, it's easier to eat gluten-free if you also eat dairy, but it's really very adjustable. Kinnikinnick...
  8. Thanks, Laura. Hope you're feeling better - how are your tests going to determine what else you have?
  9. We have four separate dish brushes: 1 for gluten-y dishes that are going in the dishwasher, 1 for gluten-y dishes that get handwashed (the idea of using a dirty brush to "handwash" something that isn't going in the dishwasher irks me), 1 for gluten-free dishes that are going in the dishwasher and 1 for gluten-free dishes that are being handwashed. This is...
  10. Thanks so much for the support! I'm still feeling pretty bad. It got better on Friday and yesterday to where I thought the symptoms were finally going away. But then I woke up this morning in a lot of pain, really really bloated. (Guess that means I'll be wearing pajama pants at our New Year's Eve party ). I used to be dairy and fat intolerant...
  11. Hi everyone, thanks for all the replies!!! After a long fight on Friday night, we decided that we're going to try a few more things and set time periods not only for them to work but for the whole attempt at getting her to stop meowing at night. If after this time period she doesn't "learn", I'm sleeping in another room. As wrong as I think my...
  12. Thanks, ladies, for your opinions. We traveled for the holidays and as much as I missed Mereike (Murr-icky), it was the first time in months that I'd been able to sleep through the night. On our first night back, she woke Matt (my husband) up several times because she was so cuddly (she was jumping on him and licking his head, etc.). He mentioned to me...
  13. I'm sorry, I didn't realize you weren't drinking it for nutritional reasons, but as a convenience issue. I'm not sure if it comes in cans or bottles, but I know it comes in ready-to-drink packets where you just add the packet to a bottle, add water/milk, and shake it up. Not sure if that would help your RA much. Sorry that your RA is so bad you have to...
  14. My husband and I have a wonderful cat that is pretty much our "baby". My husband had her before I met him, but she and I completely bonded when I moved in 3 years ago. She sleeps in our bed, next to my husband's head, sharing his pillow. We think this is cute. Let me preface this to say that I love the cat. She's cuddly and affectionate and cute. However...
  15. I don't think the exact question has been answered as to if there is any reason why she shouldn't be on a gluten-free diet. IMO, a gluten-free diet is often healthier than a normal diet - assuming you stick to a diet full of whole, naturally gluten-free foods with occasional prepackaged gluten-free foods as a treat. My diet is full of fruits, vegetables,...
  16. Hi there & welcome! If you are feeling better without gluten, I'd say it is pretty certain that you have some sort of problem with gluten, whether it is celiac or gluten intolerance (some people believe they are the same thing - I'm one of them). I understand your frustration with doctors not knowing what it was. I'm glad you found it out on your own...
  17. Thank you SO MUCH, Patti! This going to be much easier!
  18. Why do you need a diagnosis? For many of us, being diagnosed with celiac can mean never getting life insurance, having trouble being covered when switching medical insurance companies, etc.
  19. Is there any way for me to switch my settings so that I can browse replies without having to click on each one individually? I don't know if this is a new board feature or if it's because I got a new computer... Thanks
  20. Thanks everyone! I appreciate the words of comfort! I can't believe I used to feel this sick almost all the time - I feel like death warmed over. Bleh!
  21. Kinnikinnick english muffins are my bread substitute. I eat them all the time. Go to Open Original Shared Link. You can order them from there.
  22. No, but I wouldn't drink that stuff. It's high in simple sugars and low in protein... pretty much the opposite of what we should be eating. If you can have whey, Designer Whey Chocolate is gluten-free and really good - no sugar, very low fat and high protein... and it tastes awesome.
  23. Anyone remember that whole mantra of once you heal and feel really good, you often become lazy and not as diligent as you were when you were first diagnosed? I didn't believe it would happen to me, but it did. I seriously think I got glutened EVERY DAY this past week. Every day. I thought I was being careful, but realizing that the huge bag of Doritos...
  24. If we were going to have kids, we'd name our boys Jefferson Davis and Robert E. Lee. Can you tell what region of the country we live in? :P
  25. Me! I have auto-immune thyroiditis/Hashimoto's thyroid. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 7 years ago and then again last year, which was before my celiac diagnosis.
