  1. I felt dramatically better (i.e. like an almost normal person) after 48 hours (it might have even been 24, but I can't say for sure) and felt awesome after a week. I had my ups & downs but after 6 months my fat and dairy intolerances went away and they've never come back.
  2. I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this (I haven't read the entire thread), but when I want to find out if a food is gluten-free, say Heinz ketchup, for example, I type "Heinz ketchup gluten free" (without the quotation marks) into google. Usually it pulls up something from the manufacturer or a post on here. It's a really easy way to find the consensus on...
  3. No, it's really not that bad. I'm 1-1/3 years in and except for eating out, it seems so easy. The biggest challenge is learning which brands to buy - once you have that down, you just buy the same ones all the time. Congrats on feeling better!
  4. You can buy a blend of the magnesiums: oxide, stearate, & calcitrate (I may be a little off on those names, but you get the picture). I use NOW brand. Also, if you can't find them in a blend, just try one out and see if it helps. If it doesn't, move on to the next one. I've been using magnesium to help with constipation for years. I started using milk...
  5. You're probably not losing because you're eating far below the amount of calories it takes your body just to stay alive each day. Add to that moving around (not even exercise, just sitting or standing) and you're eating way under. Our bodies are smart - they have learned through thousands of years that if food is not coming in, they must hold onto every calorie...
  6. That's ridiculous. Your body doesn't know what time it is when it comes to digesting food. The ONLY argument for not eating right before bed is that some people with acid reflux or heartburn find that it doesn't feel good to lay down right after eating. But if you have neither of those, eat when you want. A calorie is a calorie regardless of whether it...
  7. I drink 8th Continent Light Original soymilk - have for years and really like it. It's much lower in calories and fat than silk, even silk light, and I love the taste. Sadly, it has xanthan gum in it (from corn) but somehow it doesn't bother me so I keep drinking it. I guess if I start having unexplained problems, I'll have to switch. But until then...
  8. I eat certified gluten free oats (glutenfreeoats.com) several times a week and have no problems whatsoever. I thank God that I am one of those celiacs that can handle oats, because they are a big part of my clean diet.
  9. My grandmother passed away last month and my family and I were in Boston for the wake and funeral. During the lunch following the funeral, my uncle, whom I don't see often, and I were talking about my food intolerances. He mentioned that when my grandma was in the nursing home (she had been in several for the last 6 years due to intense Alzheimer's), they...
  10. Yes, Lame Advertisement turns into "Lame Advertisement Test" for whatever reason. I took the Lame Advertisement test and am mixed on whether it was worth it. It pulled up literally almost 50 foods that I had varying levels of sensitivity to. After varying my diet for a few months, I believe most of the foods it said I was intolerant to were false positives...
  11. I was actually just thinking about this today. Because I suspect I have leaky gut, I've been trying to take probiotics but have had a really hard time with them - they definitely make me feel glutened. The brand I've been using is free of all allergens, but I had to stop taking them because I just felt awful and traced it back to them. I did give it a week...
  12. Thanks, Greg! I'll definitely try that!
  13. I really liked Open Original Shared Link one.
  14. Thanks everyone! I mourn the loss of tortilla chips and corn tortillas, but other than that, most of the stuff I eat is corn-free or easily adjustible to be corn-free anyway. What about sorghum flour? I really liked the things it did to bread. Any good sub for that? Thanks!
  15. I know there are more than a couple of us that are trying to avoid corn. I thought this might be a nice place to post brand names of safe foods and such. I'll start: supposedly, Horizon organic cottage cheese is corn-free. I bought some to try. And my first question - is arrowroot starch a pretty good sub for cornstarch in recipes?
  16. Can you post the link where you found the treatment plan? I've been researching but didn't see anything that specific. Also, where did you buy the colostrum? Thanks!
  17. I had the same problem. I've been feeling 'off' for about 2 months after I know I got glutened at least 7 times over a week (holidays at the in-laws ). I think it's some other intolerances now, but it could just be taking you a long time. Who really knows with celiac!??!
  18. I will try the lemon kind then... as the pills are more expensive anyway... not that they both aren't expensive! Sheesh!
  19. I also have eaten gluten-free oats without reacting (from www.glutenfreeoats.com), but only 1/4 c. I love oats and oatmeal, so I was wondering what the limit was on how much I could eat, assuming I build up gradually? I'd read that only 1/4 c. a few times a week was recommended, but I'm wondering why? If there is no CC with gluten-free oats and my body doesn...
  20. Hmmm. I will have to start doing that! As for the VSL#3, did you buy the packets that you mix with liquid or the capsules? I'd bought the packets before, but I don't really want the lemon flavor and the unflavored has corn starch in it... Also, how much are you taking?
  21. I'd never thought of that - no, I don't use organic meat and milk products. I try to buy organic, but it's not exactly easy on the budget!
  22. Do you think it would be harmful for me to take 2 different probiotics, as I'm not on an antibiotics now? Because my A.L.C.A.T. results came back as intolerant to foods I've been eating a lot of, it makes me think that it's leaky gut. I was tested for it about a year ago and didn't have it, but I did have not enough good bacteria in my gut. I wonder if that...
  23. I've taken that before and liked it! Thanks for reminding me - I'll order some now.
  24. I know probiotics are a big one, but what other supplements, vitamins, etc. did you take to decrease the intestinal permeability? Thanks!!!
  25. Yes, almost all of the red, orange and yellow foods are foods I eat all the time, especially in the last few weeks. That makes me think it's a leaky gut thing, so I'm going to do some research on trying to repair that while I cut these foods out. Thanks for the support!
