  1. Hi, I know I mentioned this before, but, is your daughter on target developmentally with everything else? My youngest son, not my Celiac, had a lot of trouble with gagging as well. He was 10.8 lbs. at birth and was still only drinking about 3 ounces per bottle at 5 months and could not handle any food for quite a while. He had hypotonia (low muscle tone...
  2. I bought a bag of Mi-Del's cookies this past weekend and was reading the ingredients. These cookies are labeled as wheat free and gluten free. Under the ingredients is an allery warning stating that they were made in a factory that also produces wheat products. Doesn't that make them a cross contamination risk and therefore should not be labeled as gluten...
  3. I always used to buy the Mi-Del animal crackers and chocolate chip cookies for my son. We have not been able to find the animal crackers in the store where we shop lately. My mom happened to be at shop rite and bought a bag of the chocolate chip and ginger snaps. Now the bag is labeled "wheat free, gluten free" but then it says on the bag that the cookies...
  4. Hi, I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of this before. I took my son to see the ped. GI yesterday. He has been gluten free for a year but continues to have monthly (if not more) bouts of constipation. He is on a daily stool softener and extra fiber and usuall goes to the bathroom 1-2 times a day. Then, it will just stop and he goes through a week...
  5. Hi, my son is only 5 but he has been eating fruity pebbles since he was diagnosed a year ago. If you trust the ingredients, they are gluten free. So are cocoa pebbles and I now just discovered cocoa puffs as well. I am not sure if you can count on the diet completely curing your daughter of her moodiness. I do know that behavior is affected by the gluten...
  6. Hi, I am not sure if you are aware of this, but Trix has wheat starch in it. It is listed at the bottom of the ingredients list. I know this because I just discovered that Cocoa Puffs are gluten free again. I happened to pick up a box at the store and read the ingredients just in case. It is now made with corn starch. So I figured (hoped) that maybe...
  7. We recently had my counsins confirmation party and my aunt went to a bakery in Summit, NJ for the cake. She asked the baker if they serve anything that might be gluten free. The baker in turn asked if this was for a person with Celiac Disease. She said that their is a family of Celiacs in town that shop there. She said that pinyoly cookies (I am sure...
  8. I can so relate to this. My son was diagnosed last year with Celiac and his primary symptom was constipation. When we went gluten free I assumed that he would feel better. My father is also a celiac but suffered with D and once gluten free for a few weeks, he felt much better. This did not happen for my son. After about a month gluten free, he did have...
  9. Hi, I am sorry I do not recall all the details of your daughters problems as I am on and off the forum alot because I've been so busy. But, maybe completely irrelavent, my youngest son, not my Celiac, was born with developmental delays. Primarily gross motor but it affected his eating because for some reason, the tongue and cheek muscles are not strong...
  10. I am also wondering if you have discussed all of these changes with a doctor. Maybe a doctor or a nutritionist can help you to better pin point what foods (if any) are the cause of the problems.
  11. My 5 year old is Celiac and he eats a lot of the gluten free specialty foods. But, my father is also a Celiac and chooses not to eat the gluten-free pastas, breads, baked goods, etc. He eats food that are naturally gluten free. For example, meats, chickens, fish (not breaded of course), veggies (not in a sauce of course ), potatoes, rice, and fruits...
  12. I think it is imortant to look for other food intolerances if the symptoms do not go away with the gluten free diet. My son has not been tested for anything else so far. We are concidering dairy as he still has bouts of sickness and I am sure he is not getting gluten (his antibody levels are all normal now after a year gluten free). Nicole
  13. Hi, it is only when they have to go to the bathroom but not every time. Only when they can't poop. Sounds strange, I guess I need to investigate further.
  14. I just took my youngest son today for blood work to test for Celiac. My oldest son has been diagnosed for a year. His primary symptom was always constipation. Out of no where my little one all of a sudden cries that he can't poop and that his bottom hurts. This is where we started with the oldest so the red flag went up especially since the little one...
  15. Last year before my son was diagnosed, his behavior was herendous. He was sick all the time and just could not stop himself from having tantrums or just not following rules. I knew that being sick all the time was causing him to be angry and that Celiac on a whole can cause behavior problems. He has now been gluten free for a year. His behavior has improved...
  16. Hi, the reaction comes when the gluten enters the intestines. So I do not know how long it takes to get there. My son's symtoms were always constipation related. So he complained of terrible stomach pain and butt pain. If he ingested gluten he would be constipated for the next few days. I know that some other parents have said their children whose syptoms...
  17. My son has been diagnosed with Celiac for a year now. He is 5. Before he was diagnosed, his primary symptoms were severe and chronic constipation, distended stomach, dark circles, etc. Since being gluten free, he still goes through bouts with his stomach. It happens at least once a month and lasts from anywhere from 3 days to 1 week or so. Right now...
  18. Hi, I just read an article the other day on line that said that after 2 years a Celiacs intestine is mostly repaired. There was a percentage involved that I do not remember but it was a high one. From the way I understand it, it would not be likely to repair itself in 4 months. Also, my son had a positive blood but negative biopsy because they only found...
  19. I actually go his blood results back yesterday. Everything was negative (thyroid and diabetes). I his antibody levels were normal as well. I am assuming that would be the case for a celiac who has been gluten free for a year, right? Nicole
  20. I have a question for parents of diabetic and celiac children. I am waiting for blood results for my son who was diagnosed with Celiac a year ago. Within the past 6 months or so we have noticed a change in his eating. For example, if he eats a meal such as dinner, it sends him into this frenzy where he is craving food for at least an hour. The other night...
  21. Hi again. I talked to the doctor and followed it up by saying "I know I am probably over reacting." He in turn said, actually," I am writing up the blood panel as you speak." He is sending us for blood work tomorrow checking for sugar, thyroid, and celiac antibodies. If anything comes up, I will post it. Nicole
  22. I know I get myself nervous over nothing. But I googled "excessive appetite and Celiac Disease" on line and every article that came up mentioned hypoglycemia or diabetes. Which of course scares me. One diet to follow is plenty for us. My aunt is both celiac and diabetic. One article said the hypoglycemia can be connected to gluten intolerance. Does...
  23. That is funny that your son is doing the same frenzy as mine. I haven't met many people who go through this too. Before he was gluten free he wasn't eating at all. His main symtom was constipation and it was so severe that he was in constant pain. When he ate it made it worse. Now that he is gluten-free, we see the feeding frenzy. He just goes from...
  24. I am not sure if this has anything at all to do with the Celiac. I feel that my son, has an abnormally tremendous appetite since he has gone gluten free. But it isn't all day. It seems to be triggered by a meal. For example, he just ate gluten-free mac and cheese for lunch and had a pretty good helping. From that he wanted fruit snacks. I gave him one...
  25. Most health food stores here sell gluten free breads and mixes. Frito Lay corn chips are definitely ok. I called and asked and they sent me a list of all of their gluten free snack foods. Most plain potato chips are ok too. It is the flavored ones you have to watch. Also with doritos, the regular cheese and the nacho cheese contain gluten but the cool...
