  1. Hi, Envirokids also makes a cereal that resembles Kixs and also one that is peanut butter flavored. My son likes both. We went to the beach a couple of weeks ago and I was at a loss for a lunch to bring for him. He said he wanted chicken nuggets. I figured oh well, why not. So I heated up some of Wellshire Farms gluten free chicken nuggets and put them...
  2. My poor son was 4 when we had to bring him for his colonoscopy. The prep was awful. Especially since after drinking all of that stuff, he did not poop at all. Not even once. The doctor was shocked and said give him more. He had the dose for a 7-12 year old and still nothing. Poor thing, they were only able to get part way through he was so backed up...
  3. Hi, how is your son doing now? Did you ever get clarification from that doctor? Nicole
  4. Hi, they are on Poly Viamin with flouride. I actually am going to call again tomorrow to double check they are safe. I haven't checked in a while. They were one of the safe ones listed by American celiac association. Nicole
  5. Can't your doctor give you a perscription for a vitamin with iron? I was actually questioning this myself. I noticed through alot of posts here that a lot of the kids are on an over the counter vitamin. My kids have always been given perscriptions as well as all the other young kids that have been in my life. Could it be because where I live they do not...
  6. I was actually very straight foward with my son. He was diagnosed at 4 years as well. He did have some pretty bad symptoms (constipation mainly). I explained to him that his body is confused and thinks that gluten (I explained that gluten is all of the cookies, cakes, cereals, pasta, and breads that he eats) is poison and that is why he is so sick. He...
  7. Any sores in her mouth or throat? There are over 20 strands of the Coxsacki (sp ?) virus. My oldest son had it once and had a rash all over. Not just on the hands and feet as is most commonly identified with coxsacki. High lingering fever is very common with it also. I believe sometimes it is just rash and fever with no sores. Very contagious too, as...
  8. Maybe completely off, but my sons and my sisters kids have been swaping viruses all summer. Whatever virus they had last, the fever was coming and going as well. And then one day it would be down to 99 and we thought, great it is over, and the next morning 103 again. They all went to the doc, told it was just viral and to ride it out. But with 3 of the...
  9. I heard from Cindy yesterday morning. She said that the woman named Linda on Montel is a friend of hers. Nicole
  10. Hi Jennifer, My son is also 5 and was diagnosed a year ago at 4 years. His problem was the reverse, he was primarily constipated but would alternate with diarrhea. He too towards the end would accidentally poop in his pants. It is very frustrating because at this age you know they feel awful about it. From my expereince, the gastro. doctor will probably...
  11. Hi, my son was 4 when he was diagnosed and he transitioned to the new diet very well. Ocassionally still says he misses cheerios or something like that but has a pretty firm understanding of why he can't eat them. But overall, he has done very well with the food and when someone offers him something he can't have, he says "I can't eat that". I am sure...
  12. My kids always run fevers that high with viruses. Especially the few times we had the coxsachi virus. We have seen fevers up to 106 and there usually is a rash. But if you call the doctor or the hospital they with just say, "is he eating, is he drinking, is he lathargic (sp?). As long as they are drinking and coherent, they say don't be alarmed. I find...
  13. Don't panick yet. As parents of children with Celiac we are always looking to see how the Celiac has caused the present symptom. Maybe she is just sick with a virus or something. My son had D this afternoon, I spent the day stressing over why he has it. Maybe he has a stomach thing. See what the GI says. Good Luck. Nicole
  14. I am not sure how much research you have done on this disease. I understand you have it but sometimes we research better when it is for our kids. For example, my father has Celiac (59 yrs. old) and he just doesn't eat anything that is obviously gluten. He doesn't even pay attention to the small stuff. Then my son got diagnosed and here I came to this...
  15. The guilt is horrible. Of course we won't eat there again and I feel sorry for him because for some reason, fried rice is like his favorite take out food (nothing else, just the rice ). I have checked into a bigger restaraunt and they said they will cook according to the our dietary needs but I can't imagine it will taste the same without the soy sauce...
  16. I, I am not sure if you are looking for a pediatric gastro. or a regular one. My son's gastro. (ped.) is Dr. Misha Tyshkov in Summit. We love him. Nicole
  17. Back when my son was first diagnosed, I called all of the places we eat at or order from to see what he can still eat. I called my Chinese take out place and asked them if there is soy sauce in the fried rice. They said "no" only after a very difficult time of getting them to understand that I don't want to order any right now. So I went in to ask them...
  18. I agree with Nini. When my son first got diagnosed my nephews and my niece would not touch his food. The mac and cheese looked different so there fore must be yucky. Now they beg to have his food when there may not be enough to share and feel bad they can't have it. So now I always pack enough gluten-free treats so he can share with his cousins. Nicole
  19. I think you need to get some clarification on what that doctor meant by "if you want to keep him". And then maybe you need a second opinion. Why would his colon be damaged and why does he have these symptoms including a fever every 3 days? This doctor is missing something. Good luck, let us know how it goes. Nicole
  20. In a sense, I was lucky. My family is very close, not just immediate family but aunts, uncles and cousins as well. We actually get together and celebrate everyones birthdays (21 in all) and all the holidays. So when my son was sick, everyone saw it and was a part of it. They saw how awful he looked and how sick he felt. The whole family was a supportive...
  21. Hi, if you look back to the top of the forum someone posted a question titled "vitamin". Someone responded that the vitamins you are asking about are gluten free. Nicole
  22. My son went through periods of time when his poop was bright green. I called the GI and he said the color is not a concern just the consistancy. I don't know if that is accurate but that is what he said. I also know that the color has changed for my children when they have had a stomach virus. Any chance of that? Nicole
  23. Hi, I don't make my own I use store bought. Some of them are gluten free. If you choose to buy any just read the ingredients in the store and then double check by calling the company. They always have a statement ready for what is gluten free. Certain companies will even tell you that all of there products specifically name any allergens which is helpful...
  24. My son's preschool provided snack for the students. It was usually crackers, cereal, or cookies. I would keep a bag of gluten free animal crackers and a box of cereal at school. When they had crackers or cookies, he ate his. When they ate cereal, he had his. I only asked the school in advance to please give me a warning before any special celebration...
  25. Hi, I spoke with the GI last night and explained how I can't seem to find the right dose of Glycolax for Jacob. He said there will not be 1 right dose. I should dose depending of Jacob's current needs. For example, if he is struggling, give him the full dose but if he is not then cut it back a bit. He said the dose can change daily depending on what is...
