  1. Hi Tom, My son who is positive for Celiac was tested for the Gene and yes he has it. My youngest son was only tested for the antibodies and will eventually be tested for the gene, I just haven't done it yet. He has been through a lot of testing already for medical problems unrelated to the Celiac and I am trying to spread out the blood work, he is only...
  2. Hi, my father and my son both have Celiac. I have had my youngest son tested and so far is testing negative. I had not tested myself because I had no syptoms but over the past year I have noticed more bloating, stomach pain, and fatigue after eating meals with gluten (primarily lunch because that is the meal I eat outside of the house, I cook gluten free...
  3. Does Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo have gluten? I never really paid attention to this especially with him being a boy and his hair can't reach his mouth but on the other hand, it still gets on his hands and if not rinsed well can end up in his mouth. How about Lever 2000 soap? Nicole
  4. McDonald's fries are actually questionable. Before the fries get to McDonald's they are pre-cooked in something called pan fry. In the pan fry there are natural ingredients and part of the natural ingredients are wheat and milk. McDonald's web site claims that they completed a RAST test and some other test of the finished fires and that there is milk in...
  5. Very good idea. I thought about that with my 4 year old and my nephews and niece. If you test for the gene, and they don't have it, then it is never a worry again. If they do have it then you know to watch carefully or play it safe and go gluten-free. Nicole
  6. I have called Wendy's nutritional hotline and spoke with them about their fries because they are not listed as a gluten free item on line. They explained that they are gluten free but that you should always check with the individual Wendy's you go to to make sure they are frying the fries separately from the chicken. All of the ones I called (I live in...
  7. Isn't it sad when we as parents know more about our kids disease than the doctors that are not only diagnosing them but overseeing their recovery? Nicole
  8. I think it is up to you. If you are not comfortable waiting until 3 or 4 then do it now. But you have to remember any testing of young children can be inaccurate, false negatives are possible. My 5 year old has Celiac my 4 year old so far has tested negative. He has some questionable symptoms. I did not have him tested until I thought I was seeing a...
  9. I actually read this before. Do you know if they will be going anywhere with this?
  10. I believe you are saying you do not think your son has Celiac. Right? I got confused. I will just say that my son has Celiac. Tested positive by blood and biopsy (not RAST test, that is different, need a Celiac panel). He has never been under weight, as a matter of fact has always been over the 90th percentile in both weight and height. He had severe...
  11. Is Celiac more common in Italy or are they just more aware of it? I am wondering because I was reading a thread on here where people were talking about the affiliation with Celiac and the Irish. My husband is Irish (non Celiac) but it is my Italian side that has been passing it along (father, aunt, son, 3 cousins, possibly grandfather who was never tested...
  12. It is funny brought this up. I was just speaking to my sister about my youngest son and the new thoughts of the doctors that maybe Celiac caused his hypotonia and developmental delays. We were wondering if it could happen in utero due to the fact that he was an infant and I never breast fed him. Nicole
  13. Hi, I can understand her fear to a point. My son was diagnosed a year ago but before he was he suffered horribly. His primary symptom was constipation but it was so severe that he would be on the floor in pain and no one knew how to help him. On the other side my youngest son had some serious problems as well (so far not diagnosed as a Celiac). He had...
  14. Well, I can only speak for myself and the way I hope to raise my sons when they are 15 (they are only 4 & 5 now). My Celiac will not be eating gluten while in my care and certainly will not be having sex in my house, protected or not . Of course I will teach them how to be safe. I am not naive to what kids do (I am a teacher) but I feel allowing...
  15. They should have done a Celiac Panel. This actually happened to me when I tried to get myself test. What kind of doctor ran the test, was it a GI? If it was, you would think they would know how to test for Celiac. Nicole
  16. Hi, my reference to a insulin dependent child was on inferring that the Celiac is equal to the diabetic. It was simply meant to question should we as parent ignore was a doctor perscribes to treat our children because the child does not want to be different? And isn't a gluten challenge only done to prove the Celiac exsists? I was under the assumption...
  17. I can't see how too much fast food and watching Cartoon Network can be compared to allowing your child to put a toxin in their body that will not only cause physical pain and discomfort but can potientially lead to a deadly situation. I know that fast food 5 days a week will hurt a child as well but we are talking about a disease and a prescibed treatment...
  18. I forgot to mention that I have a friend who works for a hospital that has been keeping a watch on the Alba AT-1001 study and he told me about a week ago that they are in phase 2. I don't know how accurate that is. Nicole
  19. So am I understanding this right that someone who is gluten intolerant does not run the same risks as a Celiac for further damage if they continued to eat gluten? Does the same go for other food intolerances as well? You avoid the food to make yourself feel better?
  20. Plenty of us can understand the not being able to afford it, don't feel bad . If you are really avoiding the blood work for your son you can just try a gluten free challenge with him. If you take it away you should start to see improvement within the next few weeks if he has Celiac. At least that is what I have understood from parents of kids who have...
  21. Would it be abuse to feed a diabetic child a chocolate cake when ever they want it? Isn't it contributing to the harm of a minor? All I need to know is that untreated Celiac disease puts my child at a higher risk of other autoimmune diseases, malnutrition, vitamin deficiencies that can lead to all sorts of other scary problems, and worst of all cancer....
  22. I actually read about this in a Celiac Manual I have from the Celiac Association I believe. But what I find more concerning is that there are still some doctors that believe you can grow out of this. Two years ago I switched my own doctor to a local guy the next town over. He is relatively young so it is not like he is old school. I went in for a physical...
  23. I wonder if the intention of the manufacturer of Zonulin is for the Celiac to completely reintroduce gluten back into the diet. Or is it more for the little things like cross contamination or eating fries that were cooked in the same oil as breaded chicken. Just curious if anyone knows either way. I also heard that it might be available within this next...
  24. Hi, Jacob was 4 when he was diagnosed and he had a signoidoscopy, endoscopy, and a colonoscopy (but not all in the same day). Each procedure was fairly simple for him. The place where we had to go gave him a "happy drink" as they called it before he went in to keep him calm. After the endoscopy he was fine. No problems afterwards at all. The colonoscopy...
