  1. Maybe if you get yourself diagnosed as Celiac or gluten intolerant the ped. will agree to test him. Celiac is genetic and if you have it, and he is symptomatic, he has a great chance of having it too.
  2. I recently had my son tested by our pediatrician for Celiac. He is 4 years old, his brother has Celiac, and like his brother I have been noticing a lot of constipation. I had him tested for antibodies but not the genetic test. He tested negative which I know can be inaccurate in young kids. Since then, I have read about a connectiion between Celiacs ...
  3. I will also add, that an otherwise healthy child, who happens to have D, sometimes cannot control it. They may feel as though their passing gas and then it is too late. I have seen that happen a couple of times with both my children and only one is a Celiac. I would think that once his stool hardens a bit, he will be able to control it better. My father...
  4. Vincent, This may be a silly question, but did the ear trouble have anything to do with the Celiac or is that a separate issue? I only ask because my youngest son, not diagnosed as a Celiac (and no syptoms either) had a similar problem with his ear (just one though) and after the tubes was fine. Still receiving speech therapy at 4. I read another post...
  5. I never knew unitl now that hypotonia and developmental delays could be related to Celiac. What makes me nervous is that my son with hypotonia tested negative for Celiac but he is only 4 and I know the blood work isn't always accurate. But I wonder if he would be getting better through the physical therapy if he were Celiac and untreated. He has made great...
  6. Hi, I am sorry to hear about your little boy's hip. That must be awful for him (and you). I just wanted to add that if you have him on the gluten-free diet you should see improvement pretty quickly. But, if the constipation does not improve quickly don't panick. My son has been diagnosed for a year and still has some trouble with constipation (not as...
  7. Mechelle Annie's Mom - What kind of bread are you using for your sandwiches? My son has been enjoying Ener-G Foods Tapioca bread but as with all the gluten-free breads I have found, it is best if toasted. I also use it for French toast, grilled cheese, and garlic bread. But if your sending it to school, do you toast it first and then does it still taste...
  8. I know this is more of a dinner idea but the other night I was making shrimp scampi and never thought my son would eat it (he is 5). But I tried anyway putting it over gluten free pasta. I didn't give him that many shrimp thinking he will never eat this. He ate everything on his plate and then picked all the shrimp out of the serving bowl and ate them...
  9. If the health food store is too far, you can go on line and order in bulk. We also eat the Envirokids cereals and cereal bars. There is a company called Gluten free Naturals that you can look up on line that makes the best pancake mix and also pizza crust mix. For lunch we do: hotdogs, gluten-free pizza that I make and freeze, buttered gluten-free pasta...
  10. HI, you just described my two son's, both with seperate symptoms, only one is a positive for Celiac. My 5 year old was diagnosed a year ago with Celiac. He is not the one with Hypotonia. But he did have trouble with Formulas as an infant, whether it be Celiac related or not, so the doctors put him on Nutramigen. My 4 year old has hypotonia and was gross...
  11. Nice to hear the good news. If you are still interested in the name of the disease my friends daughter had, here it is. I don't believe I am spelling correctly but phonetically, it sounds like, eocinaphilic gastrointeristis.
  12. When my son was first diagnosed I was calling all of the companies that make snacks and candies. Most of them sent me a list of all their gluten free foods (of course I don't know where they are right now). But it is worth making those calls.
  13. Hi, since you already went gluten free, to test him would mean giving him gluten again. The biopsy will only come out positive if they are actively sick. A doctor once suggested re testing after my son was already gluten free for 3 months. That would mean not only making him sick again, but also reintroducing him to all the foods that he always loved before...
  14. Hi, I just got off the phone with the friend who told me about the girl whose body rejected food. She cannot remember the name of the illness (this happened 5 years ago) but she is going to find out and call me back within the next few days. I will pass it on to you as soon as I hear. She did say though, that the only thing she was able to hold down for...
  15. Hi, it haven't replied much but I have been checking on you everyday as well . I am glad to hear she is doing a little better. Again, this may be completely irrelavent but when my son was an infant and was put on Nutramigen, a friend of mine from work had a friend that was going through the same thing with their infant daughter. Now that child was also...
  16. Hi, I will be calling my doctor tomorrow to ask this question but sometimes it seems like other parents know more . Has anyone with a lactose intolerant or casein intolerant child ever seen constipation as a symptom? I posted my frunstrations with my son's chronic constipation even though gluten-free the other day and a few mom's replied that I should...
  17. I am sorry to sound so ignorant about this but I had a revelation. When Jacob was an infant he was formula fed. He would projectile vomit regularly so they kept switching his formula. Finally they put him on Nutramigen and that worked. He stayed on that until he was 12 months and then switched to cows milk and that is when the constipation problems started...
  18. I have another question. Is being dairy intolerant the same as lactose intolerant? I looked in the store today and found a product called "Lactaid" that says it is whole milk but 100 % lactose free. Is this OK? I tasted it and it tastes fine. Is this the wrong kind of product?
  19. Hi, thanks for the advise. I was wondering about the dairy. Does anyone know of a milk substitute that tastes close to milk? This is a boy that loves milk.
  20. I think this has been my question to my doctors all along. He is strictly gluten free. I am very careful and so is everyone else that cares for him. He is extremely careful as well. He won't even touch anything he doesn't know is safe. Shouldn't he be better? A year has gone by. He still suffers regularly enough to have in interfere with his life.
  21. I am looking for some advise because I know you all have been in similar situations. I have posted many times about my son still having syptoms about once a month even though he is gluten free. His blood was tested and the antibody levels are normal now, a year ago they were threw the roof. I know he is getting healthier because he looks super good and...
  22. I believe my son has IBS on top of the Celiac. Now that he is gluten free he is much better but about once a month he goes into a cycle where he becomes constipated again and complains that his stomach and "butt" hurt. At first I was worried about accidental glutening but it can't be because it is on a monthly cycle and unfortunately for my family, I don...
  23. Thank God I have not had such a bad experience but can relate because when my son has something as simple as a stomach virus I am panicked over whether or not he was glutened. My son still has occassional stomach trouble even when not glutened so I ignored his stomach ache this Tues. and brought him around other kids. I thought he was just having his usual...
  24. I was reading the ingredients of the gluten free/wheat free labeled Mi-Del cookies. Under the ingredients is an allergy warning stating that the cookies are made in a factory that also produces wheat products. I'm confused by this because wouldn't they then be a risk for cross contamination? Is it different for people with a wheat allergy?
  25. Hi, my son is 5 and was diagnosed last year with celiac. He was so constipated that he wouldn't go for several days and then one day, he would go. It would always be rock hard (never clogged the toilet though ), but then, it was like the flood gates were opened and he would poop all day. Now that he is gluten-free he was still having trouble with constipation...
