ARCHIVED My Baby Seems To Be Wasting Away!
Nic replied to mistybearclaw's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Alliesmom, Hi, my son Jacob is now 5 years old but the BM problems you described is Jacob's problems as well. I could never figure out why he couldn't get the soft poop out. And every doctor I saw said he is constipated and I would say, "but do you understand, he can't even get soft poop out?". He was also given a barium enima looking for Hirschsprungs... -
ARCHIVED Megan's Gagging Isn't Any Better
Nic replied to TCA's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Tanya, I am glad everything went so well. I know I seem stuck on this but how is the gagging? If she is still doing it, it must be hard on her with here incision. Nicole -
I believe the allergy test is called a RAST and it covers all the major allergens so hopefully, it was ordered correctly. Nicole

ARCHIVED Megan's Gagging Isn't Any Better
Nic replied to TCA's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am so happy that Megan is coming home. It is so funny to have never met this family, yet even my family knows about them. My sister asked yesterday, "how is that baby doing?". -
ARCHIVED Your Toddlers Fav Foods?
Nic replied to kimber's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son is 5 and no longer a toddler but just discovered Wellshire Kids gluten free chicken nuggets that are shaped like dinosaurs. This is a huge hit and he has been going through them way too quickly. He also enjoys all of the foods everyone else already mentioned. We bought the nuggets at Whole foods. -
ARCHIVED Dd Had The Lactose Breath Test
Nic replied to sclark9602's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Has she been tested for an intolerance to casein (milk protien versus lactose which is sugar)? They usually do a skin test and or blood test. -
If the biopsy shows negative for Celiac see if you can insist that they send it to the lab at Columbia University. My doctor did this because my son's original lab said it was a negative. If you e mail me I will tell you the name of the person at the lab that my doctor said is the best. donahueni@yahoo.com Nicole

ARCHIVED Dd Had The Lactose Breath Test
Nic replied to sclark9602's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son is supposed to go for that test tomorrow. I am cancelling the appointment. I have been giving him Lactaid in place of milk or along with dairy and see improvement. I have even taken it away and saw the symptoms return. You can always try a lactase enzyme product. Nicole -
ARCHIVED Miralax/glycolax
Nic replied to Nikki2003's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi, my son has been on it since November of 2004. We have the same problem. My bottle says to take 17 grams a day which is up to the line (this is glycolax). While doing that his poop was always very loose and heavy. So then I would lower it and he would struggle for a few days and then not go at all. So I spoke with my ped. and she said to try giving... -

This is really scary to me. Just 2 hours ago I was on the phone with my sister discussing my youngest sons medical problems and the possibility of further testing. I jokingly told her that I was afraid to talk to the doctor about it because I am worried that they will think I am making it up and then take my kids. I was joking. How shocking to read this...

I am sorry if I sound ignorant but I really am regarding thyroid issues (my husband is hypothyroid but I never really investigated it the way I do Celiac). I was asking if hypothyroidism can be missed the way Celiac is when they are young. My doctor is actually wonderful about Lucas, he said, "he is in the 100 th percentile, but don't worry, he is not fat...

Does anyone know how the gagging is today? Wouldn't it be wonderful if she came home without that? Nicole -
ARCHIVED New To Board And Celiac
Nic replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi, you will see that you are among some of the lucky ones to get the diagnosis so early. She has not had much time to get used to "regular" food and before you know it, will be completely happy with her gluten free food. My son was diagnosed at 4 and even though he still sometimes complains about what he cannot have, is perfectly satisfied with his gluten... -
Hi, my youngest son so far has tested negative for Celiac although we will be looking into it farther as children under 5 often have false negatives. He has the chronic constipation that his Celiac brother had and also has hyptotonia and developmental delays. I recently learned that these are also symptoms of Celiac. Since he was an infant, every doctor...

ARCHIVED Irish Heritage And Celiac's
Nic replied to Queen Serenity's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My son is Irish, Italian, and English and he is a Celiac. But it is passed on in my fathers side of the family who is half Italian, half English, no Irish. I read early on when my son was first diagnosed that this illness is predominant in the northern European counties. Nicole -

ARCHIVED Another Newbie....working Backwards...hypotonia?
Nic replied to noodles mommy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi, do you know if kids can test false negative with hypothyroidism? He has been tested for this as well as diabetes but from the very beginning with him, everyone said "hypothyroidism". As an infant his front fontanel (spelled wrong I'm sure, soft spot on head) would not close. At 1 year old I could fit the width of my index, middle, and ring fingers... -
Hi, I actually have a problem with a wart on my left knee. It just appeared when I was about 20 (I am know 32). Almost every summer I go to a dermatologist and have it scraped off or cortorized. By spring it is back. And it spreads out, gets pretty big. The doc. now gives me a script. for Aldera which is an anti viral cream to use after it heals from...

ARCHIVED Doctor Unsure
Nic replied to Kailynsmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Am I misunderstanding or did you say the doc. said to resume a "regular" diet? Does that mean he wants you to give her gluten? Why would be say that if he feels certain it is Celiac? I am sorry if I am confused, my kids got us up at 5:45 this morning . Nicole -
ARCHIVED I Just Need To Vent...
Nic replied to andersonfam06's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Unfortunately a lot of people who are not familiar with Celiac just brush it off as an allergy. I can't tell you how many times I have heard, "oh, your kid is the one with the allergy". I always clarify whether they are interested or not. But to be honest, my father (who I have a limited relationship with) was diagnosed Celiac 7 years ago. All my sister... -
ARCHIVED Lanigan's Gi Appt.
Nic replied to andersonfam06's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It sounds like you are on the right track and please don't worry about having him put under. My oldest son is a Celiac and he was put under 3 times last year while going through the testing and handled it fine. My youngest son was also put under 2 times for ear tubes and adnoids and I actually got to go in with him until he was asleep. The first time was... -
Completely off topic from diet coke, but, was the Chiles gluten-free menu kid friendly? I know the Outback has a gluten-free menu also so I have been checking out safe places to go with a 5 year old. Nicole
