  1. I do agree that as parents we have to take responsibility for what we feed our child. But regardless of the fact that a child should not be eating fast food daily, McDonald's did say their fries were gluten free. In fact, I called them well over a year ago and asked about their fries, burgers, and ice cream as we did occassionally treat them to McDonald...
  2. As I have mentioned before, my youngest son, who has not been diagnosed with Celiac yet, is developmentally delayed. Primarily gross motor and I would say emotional/social growth. He was also with Early Intervention up until he was three. So right before he turned 3 I had him evaluated by our public school district. I believe if they know the child was...
  3. We also have the large volume of soft poop problem. And also the problem where if you lower the dose he get backed up again. It is like this never ending circle. We actually had 2 months of "normal" poop almost daily this past summer. The only thing I changed was I added acidophilus to his diet. He takes it twice a day. Now, since September, we have...
  4. Michelle, It took me a while to read the response. How is he doing now? It is funny because when my son would get D from the Miralax he would say, "yay, Diarrhea". We are in another bout of C ourselves right now. Thought we were past it as we had 2 good months (something we haven't seen in over 2 years). Starting the end of Sept. we have gone through...
  5. Over the summer my son was doing very well. He was symptom free. By the end of August I had read so many things about McDonald's fries being tested after cooking and no gluten being detectable so I let him eat them . Probably about 4 times in a month or so. By the end of September his symptoms were back. He is back to his pattern of constipation which...
  6. Michelle, No one suspected my son as having Celiac just based on his symptoms (this was with my original ped gi). He had the distended belly, dark circles, and constipation. Due to my own ignorance at the time, I never mentioned that my dad has Celiac because I knew he had D, I didn't know that constipation was also a symptom. He had been constipated...
  7. Thanks for the help. I know common sense would say ask the mother but sadly enough sometimes people are not educated enought in the needs of their own children. In the same school there was a mom who told them that her son could not have bread or pasta but could eat pizza. If you can't eat bread or pasta, how could you eat pizza. She just wasn't educated...

    ARCHIVED Mcdonalds

If you go on the web site and click where it says "click here for nutritional info." regarding the fries and hash browns it gets very confusing. It basically says that they ran several tests on the fries since wheat is an ingredient in the frying oil of the fries (it is called pan fry). They say that after cooking the fries gluten is undetectable. It is...
  9. Hi, my mom happens to work for a daycare center that's food services are funded by the state (they are a non profit organization). They just received a pre school aged boy to the program who happens to be allergic to wheat, milk, egg, and several other things. The state says that since the school supplies meals they need to try to meet the child's dietary...
  10. This is really very true. Only my son is gluten free but when we do family celebrations (and I mean big family ranging in age from 60 + down to 4) everyone raves about those brownies and how much better they are than "regular" brownies. I think it is those chocolate chunks in there . I am getting carried away, I am hungry right now. Nicole
  11. Hi, just want to add that this will get easier. Most of the cookies we have tried from Kinnickinik (how do you spell that) have been great. Not only do they have make the oreo type one, they also make them in vanilla cookie with cream filling as well. They are very good and both my kids, one celiac, one not, enjoy them. Also their montana chocolate chip...
  12. Sarah, Thanks for the input. My son is always thirsty too. Especially when he was younger. He would drink all the time. As an infant and even now as a 4 year old, I have never seen anyone urinate so heavy. He was tested for diabetes and it was negative. And even though he doesn't seem to comprehend cause and effect, he is brilliant in other areas...

    ARCHIVED Oprah Today

Hi, I was actually just watching it and the woman said every time she ate she got diarrea and that she needs to load up her purse with Imodium just to go out to dinner. I was ready to scream at the TV "GLUTEN INTOLERANCE". But you are right it was not mentioned. He did say that it could be a food allergy and mentioned specifically lactose and wheat. I...
  14. My original plan was to use enterolab but it made me nervous that my doc didn't support it. I guess I worry about a false positive because while it would be no harm done if he ended up eating gluten free for no reason, it would be very hard to take away his favorite foods. He is not like my older son. He is developmentally delayed and while his cognitive...
  15. My 4 year old son Lucas has not been diagnosed as a Celiac. His brother has. Lucas does have some syptoms that match Celiac but when I had his antibodies tested through the lab my insurance company uses he tested negative. So I looked into Enterolab which my doctor has never heard of but suggested I get his blood tested with Prometheus (they ran my older...
  16. It seems to me that the teachers just need to be more educated on Celiac and once they get the hang of it, hopefully everything will work out fine. Think of how long it has taken us as parents to really get the hang of it. I am a teacher and if I knew a child in my class had a medical problem I would do everything I needed to in order to keep that child...
  17. Hi, my son's symptom was severe constipation as well. It took about 3 months to start to see results. When he was still eating gluten, nothing worked to get him pooping. Once in the ER they gave him 4 enimas in one day and he still didn't poop. Even that awful drink before a colonoscopy didn't make him poop. So as far as cutting back the meds, I wouldn...
  18. I believe I read a thread on here once that said that there is an oatmeal that seems to be ok. It was an Irish name and started with Mc I believe but can't remember. Anyone know what I am talking about? Nicole
  19. So then is it possible that the chicken used for Sweet and Sour chicken is made from corn starch? Of course I will ask and I know the sauce is out but hey, it is something my 5 year old used to love (with ketchup, not their sauce). Nicole
  20. Hi, just want to offer that my son, 4 at the time, went through both procedures and was fine. They didn't even start the IV until he was completely out. The only discomfort he did have was the gas after the colonoscopy in which case he kept thinking he had to poop. I think he was more tired and frustrated that in any pain. Good luck, let us know how it...
  21. I recently called Johnson & Johnson and asked about the baby shampoo. They said it was fine but I only asked about the Lavender one. Nicole
  22. Over the summer I realized that General Mills was no longer including wheat in their ingredients for Cocoa Puffs and Trix. My son was so excited. He does not eat them everyday but it is nice to have some options other than Fruity Pebbles, Cocoa Pebbles, and all of the ones I buy at the health food store. He would sometimes eat them dry as a snack. So...
  23. I was just at back to school night and one of the aides asked if my son was the one with Celiac. She went on to say that she noticed I send in yogurt for him and that she is a Celiac as well and was told by her doctor not to eat yogurt. I have read the ingredients and they appear safe. Am I wrong? Nicole
  24. Just wanted to give a heads up that Cocoa Puffs and Trix now contain gluten. They have changed there formula. Nicole
  25. Hi, just thought I would send out the warning. I realized this summer that Cocoa Puffs did not contain wheat so I was allowing my son to eat them as a treat. He was very excited to be able to eat what his cousins could eat. My husband picked up a box this weekend and I was just looking at them (apparently he didn't ). It says contains wheat at the bottom...
