  1. Without getting personal, does this cycle sound similar to what you go through? For example, yesterday he finally went some, but I knew more would be coming. Then today, flood gates open and its massive diarrhea. If it continues the way it always has, after today he will poop pretty normal for about a couple of weeks or so and it starts again. The odd...
  2. Hi, Thanksgiving morning he woke up at 6:15 and the runs to the bathroom started from there. He would try to go, shaking and sweating, and then after like 15 minutes give up and go lay down. 5 minutes later he was running to the bathroom. He is always on Mirolax (stool softener) and fiber so after about 3 hours of this I gave in and gave him a laxative...
  3. Nini - does the tapioca light taste the same as the regular tapicoa? I can only find the regular kind in my stores that I use and it really is his favorite but I am wondering if the light is somehow less dense. Nicole He is 6 years old. If this comes up twice I am sorry, I tried it once and then replied to Nini and that one showed up but not my...
  4. Hi Liz, we have seen that behavior too. With my son he becomes very physical with other people as well. Usually in the form of play but my goodness, he is like a bulldozer. I am also sorry that you too are going through hard times. That is why I got right on the computer yesterday, all parents can understand how it feels to watch your child suffer. ...
  5. Hi, he takes Yummi Bear Fiber supplements. He is taking the maximum amount which is 4 bears and is equal to 1200 mg of fiber. How does that compare to the needed amount of 5g's? I am not good with g's and mg. Nicole
  6. You know it is funny, the medical problems started with my second son 4 and a half years ago. This was before I knew my oldest was Celiac he was only 17 months when his brother was born. He was always constipated but nothing severe. Then as he turned 4 everything hit the fan and I said well ok, I have 2 kids with problems. And I handled it in such stride...
  7. I am having such a bad week. My celiac son Jacob is suffering through this bout of constipation that does not seem to be gluten related. It comes in cycles. One day the pooping just stops and then for upward of a week he can't get anything out and he is in horrible discomfort. My youngest son is testing negative for everything and is gaining upward of...

    ARCHIVED Mcdonalds

Hi, the fries themselves would be gluten free but they are cooked (prior to getting to the McDonalds restaraunt) in an oil called pan fry that uses wheat as a flavoring ingredient. They say that they have tested the final fry after cooking and that there are no detectable traces of gluten. But, as the Celiac Association stated on the McDonalds site, the...
  9. You did not mention where you live. I know you said you are willing to travel but if you live on the West Coast I am sure you won't be traveling to Jersey . If you are around Jersey the gastro. doctors at the Goryeb Children's Hospital at Morristion Hosptial are very good and very experienced with Celiac. Sorry if that is not much help. Nicole
  10. I might be very wrong but I believe when they are saying "high" for celiac they are referring to the antibodies. It is the antibodies that show he is actively sick, the genes show he has the potential to be sick. I may be wrong though. Sorry if I'm no help. Nicole
  11. I have been on this forum for almost a year now I believe and I am finally going to ask this question . What in the world does the D stand for before someone puts "H" for husband or "S" for son? For example, DH or DS. I am sure once someone tells me I will be like, "Duh that was obvious" but have secretly been trying to figure it out and just can't....
  12. I read an article on line where they were talking about testing methods for Celiac. They were quoting Dr. Fine and they said that the blood work is only about 60% accurate when it comes up negative. Could that really be? So for all of our kids who test negative there is still a 40% chance they really have it. That is a big percentage. Please correct...
  13. I never noticed that there was an organic Tinkyada. I also buy based on the size of the bag and the shape of the pasta. I have found that the spaghetti tastes the most like regular pasta as it keeps its firmness better especially when re heated. Nicole
  14. So basically if the blood work comes back negative for everything including the gluten antibodies than I will have his genes tested through enterolab. If he is positive for the genes than I will make him 100% gluten free and see how we end up from there. I can't believe I had no idea weight gain was a symptom. I have complaining about his weight gain his...
  15. Hi Nini, thanks for the response. Did you actually have to diet to loose the weight or just eating the gluten free diet helped you loose the weight? It is like everyday I hear of new symptoms to this disease that I did not were connected. And I thought I had done all my homework . Nicole
  16. I took him to the doctors yesterday and they are running blood for diabetes, thyroid, celiac, and whatever else. I am more nervous than ever because they are confirming my fear that something seems to be wrong. He has gained 5 pounds according to their scale since July. Pretty scary because if he keeps going he could potentionally gain 12 pounds in a year...
  17. Where do you buy it, I haven't heard of it?
  18. If you happen to have a Trader Joe's by you, you have to try their gluten free pasta (if you haven't already). We have always been big fans of Tinkyada but this blows it away. You can actually cook it for the maximum time it tells you to and it does not get mushy or have that odd smell. My husband and I are not Celiac (my son is) so we can still eat regular...
  19. I would call the ped. back and tell her that you can't get him in until Dec. 22 and someone needs to help you. Is it possible to try another GI instead of waiting? Nicole
  20. I agree with Nantzie. With kids there is bound to be an accidental glutening at some point. That can be your challenge. If my son gets gluten his symtoms return for at least a week. So there is the proof he cannot eat it. Nicole
  21. Yes, my older son (6) and my father both have Celiac. As well as my aunt and 3 cousins. I was unaware that night sweats were a symptom of Celiac. I had read today that it could be connected to hypothyroidism. He is gluten light as the only meal he eats with gluten is lunch but I will have to make him completely gluten free. Thanks for the advice. ...
  22. My son is not yet diagnosed Celiac (he is 4) because his blood work for the antibodies came back negative. He has always had medical problems that no one could figure out. Developmentally delayed, hypotonia, as an infant the soft spot on his head would not close. It was wide open until he was over 2. He has always been on the heavier side (currently ...
  23. Citric Acid was on the list of "things to be careful with" that we got from a Nutrionist when we first got started on the diet. She said that it can be derived from wheat (I would have never thought). It wasn't a "no no", just something to check on. Nicole
  24. Has anyone heard of Kimball Genetics? I just received via e mail Scott Adams celiac.com newsletter and it gives a link to this website www.kimballgenetics.com/celiac and it is a company that does genetic testing through cheek swab. They also offer antibody testing but through blood (I guess you have to get it drawn somewhere). Anyway, anyone know about...
  25. Hi, Rice Chex as well as Corn Chex have malt in them. As the poster before me said, Cocoa Pebbles and Fruity Pebbles are gluten free as well as Dora Cereal if you are looking for kid cereal. Sometimes my son prefers something more grown up so we tried Natures Choice corn flakes this week, very good. Also there is a company (can't remember the name) who...
