  1. As some might remember, my son who has celiac, was taken off dairy about a month ago. Since then he has improved dramatically. No more dark circles, his appetite has increased, and his bowel movements are normal and daily. About a year ago he was given a RAST test to determine if he is allergic to any other foods and it all came back negative. So I have...
  2. Hi, to be very honest I am probably the farthest thing from a devot catholic (not to put down those that are). We are not a church going family now and never have been. But, I do believe that as a parent I need to set a foundation for my children and I believe making the sacraments is important. So my son will receive the 0.01% wheat wafer for his first...
  3. We haven't been able to find any cheese type crackers that resemble gold fish crackers either. It might actually be better off because even if someone did make it, it wouldn't taste like the real thing which would leave your daughter even more disappointed. My son really missed apple cinnamon cheerios. So I found a cereal that was apple cinnamon and in...
  4. If I make my own I use Ener-G foods gluten free bread crumbs. I use it for nuggets but also for breaded chicken and it tastes very good. But I do buy frozen chicken nuggets as well. We like Ian's and also Wellshire Farms. Nicole
  5. I haven't had to worry about this because yet because my son is only starting his religious education in September and won't be making his communion until the Spring of the next year. But I plan to allow the host with the 0.01% wheat in it but I will speak to his GI first to see if he should eat the whole thing or only break off a piece as my church suggested...
  6. This has been an ongoing battle with catholics because according to the Vadacin (I know I am not spelling that right, shows just how religous I am), the communion waffer has to contain wheat. As a matter of fact, if the first holy communion it given without a wheat waffer it will not be accepted as having been made at all. I have heard of some churches...
  7. My son's only symptom was constipation, very severe I will add. He was diagnosed 2 years ago by blood and biopsy. Nicole
  8. Not to mention womens clothing sizes are rediculous. You can fit is one size with one brand and then you buy that size without trying it on from another brand and it is too tight. There seems to be no uniform. Don't even look at the size. Buy what feels good on you and then cut out the tags so you never have to even see the size again. Nicole
  9. Kimberly, I don't have much to offer you as far as advice on your health problems but you sounded so down I felt I needs to respond. I think everyone goes through these times and thank God they do pass. I believe that stretch marks fade over time as well. As far as weight loss is concerned, take it one day at a time instead of making a long term plan...
  10. This reminds me of a conversation I had with my aunt. She has a friend who was diagnosed with Celiac as an adult. Well the woman decided not to have children due to the possibility of them having Celiac. To each his own of course but I watch my son, who was diagnosed with Celiac 2 years ago at 4, and he is happy, healthy, and well adjusted. The only difference...
  11. The nutritionist at my son's gastro. office told me that with a dairy intolerance it could be hit or miss. She said that some people who are lactose intolerant actually produce enough lactase to be able to digest some dairy. So for example, maybe you could handle dairy once a day but not more than that. I think it depends on the person and the intolerance...
  12. It is ok as long as your child does not have an intolerance or an allergy to soy. My son likes the rice milk. Nicole
  13. I also know that bright red blood can be from a fissure (a tear in the anus). My son has this problem as did I years ago. I know from experience that there can be a lot of blood from this which is very scary. There is also a lot of pain and pressure (like you have to poop). I don't think it would cause cramping and mucus though. Just a thought. Nicole
  14. Hi, the play dough issue is tricky. You have to remember that the play dough can get stuck under the nails or maybe your child is not eating it but for some reason she puts her hand to her mouth and there you go. My household is not gluten free either. I do the same as you, I cook all of his food first and wash everything down thoroughly. So far I have...
  15. My son has the same problem when he is constipated. The pain is terrible for him and I believe he feels a throbbing because in his words, "it feels like there is a party going on in my butt and the music is too loud". My guess is he feels a pulsing or a throb. I always put him in a warm tub and I also give him some motrin to help with the pain. I do not...
  16. I will add to this that the younger you make the switch from gluten to gluten free the easier the transition. My son was 4 when diagnosed and has been gluten free ever since. He has adapted very well and even though he had to give up most of his favorites, he made new favorites very quickly. Nicole
  17. Sorry, accidentally posted twice.
  18. I believe I asked this question myself once because I was having myself tested because my son and father both have Celiac and I have some stomach issues. I am gluten light because we eat mostly gluten free at home except for my lunch I eat at work. I was told that being gluten light can lead to a false negative on the blood work. I did test negative by...
  19. If the improvement is obvious, do you think there is any reason to reintroduce any dairy? I keep saying maybe this is just a fluke and he happens to be going through a good spell right now. But what is the likelyhood that he has not had a good spell in about 2 months but he is having one now at the exact same time I removed dairy from his diet. Rationally...

  21. Thanks for the help. He does seem to be doing better and we are on day 11. We will see how it goes. Nicole
  22. My son who has been gluten free for 2 years but just went dairy free 11 days ago in a search to find why he is still sick all the time (the doctor also found evidence of a food intolerance during a colonoscopy). We started the dairy free diet 2 Saturdays ago. Constipation is his symptom with terrible rectal pain. Well by Monday of that week I noticed his...
  23. Hi, my sons are 6 and nearly 5. Only the six year old has celiac. First off I will start off by saying that both my boys, especially my non celiac have a tendency to like food one day and then refuse it the next. It can be very frustrating because with such a picky eater you think your finally on to something they will eat and so you buy it in bulk and...
  24. I don't know anything about that enzyme but I do know that Alba Therapuetics (sp?) are in stage 2 of their trial which means they are now testing on people. They made a drug/enzyme? called AT-1001.
  25. Are the Ore Ida crispy fries safe? For some reason I thought the crispy one were not safe. Nicole
