ARCHIVED Potty Traing Problems
Nic replied to Annie/NM's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son has been on Miralax for over 2 years daily. He has Celiac, we believe he is dairy intolerant, and are now looking into soy. The Miralax can be tricky. If you give a full dose the poop is too loose. If you cut back the constipation is back. Has the doctor explained to you that 1 dose of Miralax is equal to 4 teaspoons? Maybe try using a measuring... -
I was reading a web site today that had a food intoelrance/food allergy symptom matrix. Now under intolerances it listed wheat with Celiac listed along with it, dairy, fructose and yeast. Then it had allergies listed seperately which listed all the major allergens including soy. But soy was not listed with the intolerances which confused me. Can a person...

ARCHIVED How Do I Tell My Son's Wonderful Childcare Provider That She May Not Be Doing Enough?
Nic replied to JennyC's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I was wondering about the crumb issue as well. It is very easy to make mistakes if the house isn't gluten free and the person who needs the diet is only in the house part of the day. I agree with making it a team issue. My youngest son was gross motor developmentally delayed and I was wondering if my sitter was giving him enough floor time where he could... -
Hi, my son is 6 and has been gluten free for 2 years since being diagnosed with Celiac. About 2 months ago he had a colonoscopy because he still goes through very difficult cycles of constipation. The colonoscopy showed evidence of a food allergy or intolerance. So we tried taking him off milk and it really seemed to help. He started having BM's everyday...

ARCHIVED School System Questions
Nic replied to ELB3345's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I agree with the last 3 posters. I don't want the school to provide gluten free food for my son but I do want them to keep me informed of when extra food will be brought into the classroom. My son understand and accepts that he can not eat the same lunches as everyone else, but, it is a different story when the class is provided with a treat that he can... -
Hi, my son is gluten free and dairy free. He really misses his gluten free pizzas. I found Veggie Cheese but it is only lactose free and contain a small amount of casein so it is out. I also found a vegan cheese on line for $5.00 a pound but the shipping was $28.00 . Any ideas? Nicole

ARCHIVED Rice Dream
Nic replied to Sinenox's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have a container of the Rice Dreams vanilla ice cream in my freezer and I don't see any offending ingredients. Has anyone tried Whole Foods own brand of rice milk. My son loves it. It looks just as thick as regular milk. Since we don't live that close to one we only go about once a month so in between he drinks WestSoy's rice milk. He likes that... -
Hi, my son is 6 and newly dairy free. ARCHIVED Daughter Is Sick 2nd Time In 2 Weeks
Nic replied to little d's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi, I will start off by saying that I have 2 children. Both boys, my six year old has Celiac and my 5 year old does not, but he does have a whole list of other problems that required a lot of testing. Both boys are very afraid of needles as well but sometimes it just can't be avoided. I have always been very matter of fact with them when I explain why... -
ARCHIVED Cheeseburger In Paradise/bonefish Grill
Nic replied to Nic's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Hi, I live in Roselle Park so we are neighbors. Cheeseburger in Paradise is a burger place. It is very good, especially if you have children. It has a tropical theme and most nights has live music. We go to the one in Seacaucus (sp?) but now that this one opened up we will be going there. They have a gluten free menu but what I like the most is that... -
Just thought I would let anyone know who lives anywhere around Woodbridge, NJ that they just opened up a Cheeseburger in Paradise and a Bonefish Grill right across the street from the Woodbridge mall. They are side by side in the same building (old Chi Chi's for those familiar with the area). We have already eaten at the Bonefish and it was fabulous although...

ARCHIVED Safe Meats?
Nic replied to kyliekatiesmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Not all lunch meats are gluten free. Boreshead and Thumanns are for sure, they advertise it that way. But always check the other brands. Nicole -
ARCHIVED Got The Test Results Back, Now Have More To Do "frustrated"
Nic replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
VydorScope is absolutely right, "little grumpy" did not cover it for my son. My youngest son woke up in this crazy frenzy and kept trying to jump off the table. It was almost comical. He is my non celiac. My celiac just had a colonoscopy last month and woke up very well and ready to play video games. He had the sedation through IV. I told the nurse... -
The nutrionist at my son's GI office sent my a packet on "lactose" intolerance. She said that for about a month you should remove all dairy including things made with dairy (so even the bread that is made with milk is supposed to go). She said that after a month you could start eating food with lactose only 2 times a day from a category she called group...

ARCHIVED Test gluten-free Diet Length Recommendations
Nic replied to squili's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi, I just wanted to point out that I have 2 kids, one celiac and one not. It is not uncommon for them to catch a cold a month since November and then to have a possible stomach virus with diarrhea and vomiting. That has been my year this year with my boys and it was not celiac related (just a rediculously bad year). With that being said, sometimes people... -
ARCHIVED Does This Sound Like A Dairy Reaction?
Nic replied to Nic's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
But do you get the tiredness like when you are glutened? I think the reason I am so confused on whether this was a reaction or not is because he was so sick last week. He started the week out with strep throat and by the end caught his brother stomach virus. So on Friday he was running a fever and had diarrhea, on Saturday, the day we went out, he was... -
ARCHIVED Does This Sound Like A Dairy Reaction?
Nic replied to Nic's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi, we went to cheeseburger in paradise and so far we were never glutened there. But, the gluten theory does make sense because prior to going diary free a month ago he was always constipated even after being gluten free for 2 years. So anytime he was glutened we never saw any change. Now that the constipation is corrected maybe the symptoms of being glutened... -
Hi, for my son it took about 3 months to see some improvement with the constipation. He was recently taken off dairy as well and now the constipation is completely resolved. Nicole

Hi, I don't make my own muffins but my son loves Kinnickinicks blueberry muffins. They are both gluten and dairy free. Nicole

My 6 year old son has celiac and we recently relized he is most likely dairy intolerant as well. He has been completely dairy free for 1 month and has been symptom free. His symptom was chronic constipation. Last week he had strep throat and a stomach bug at the same time. On Saturday he was completely fine, no vomiting, no more diarrhea. We went out...

ARCHIVED How Did You Tell Your Kid They Were Celiac?
Nic replied to Pacer's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son was 4 when he was diagnosed. I explained to him that some foods contain gluten and that his body is confused and thinks that gluten is poison. He understood this very well and thought it was funny that his body was confused. Now that he is older (6) he now knows exactly what contains gluten and not to except food from someone who doesn't know his... -
My son has celiac disease and constipation and his doctor allows him to use Senacot in extreme situations when he cannot go at all. He also is on Miralax daily which is a stool softener. But, I made him dairy free about a month ago and he has had a bowel movement everyday. I even had to lessen the stool softener. I will begin to ween him off of that and...

I called the Imodium people to ask if the liquid Imodium is safe for my Celiac son. The woman I spoke with said that she cannot tell me it is gluten free because it is one of their medications that has not been tested yet. But, she said she could tell me with certainty that all of their products are made with a corn or potato base and that none of their...

ARCHIVED Ok, Ok, I Learned My Lesson...
Nic replied to SunnyDyRain's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The nutritionist from my son's gastro. doctor said that with a lactose intolerance it is not always as cut and dry as with gluten. Some people who are intolerant do produce some lactase and therefore can digest some dairy without a problem. So she said in actuality, someone who is lactose intolerant might be able to eat some dairy with breakfast or lunch...
